08 Dec 2020 21:04:49
I think dermot desmond should concentrate on his other job as the monopoly guy off the board game and leave football to someone who has a clue. He reminds me of seth off emerdale.

08 Dec 2020 21:19:05
24 games to go. That lot won't do an invincible season. A defeat 2 draws, we win our 2 games in hand and it's game on. It doesn't seem that way just now but we have a squad capable of pulling this back if they come out fighting.

Agree3 Disagree0

08 Dec 2020 21:23:12

When NL balled "f☆ck off" to Mikey when he hobbled off whilst putting himself on the line for the team he lost part of the respect I had for him. He was a young boy and yes he made a wrong decision on his fitness but would NL have shouted like this to Rogic, Brown, Calmac, I think not. Is it this type of behaviour and publicly criticising them one of the reasons why some players have downed tools.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

08 Dec 2020 20:07:27
I agree Chinks, this incident has played a part. Lennon is more calm in front of the cameras nowadays but behind the scenes he has possibly got into a situation similar and certain players have not responded well to it, I think he let his guard down with the Mikey incident.

Agree2 Disagree0

08 Dec 2020 20:21:04
Agree Jazz and much as BR left us in the lurch he would never in a million years have acted like that and he had the full respect of all the players. A manager needs that and they have that across the city.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Dec 2020 21:28:34
Welshy if the rat had given flying feck about the 10 he’d have stayed for it. It was always about Brendan. Rodent.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Dec 2020 11:39:43
We would be nowhere near the quadruple treble without BR. Yes he is a fud for what he did but name one of our players who wouldn't have done the same. Actually so would Lenny if he wasnt a bad manager and someone wanted him. Money talks in football. BR came, rebuilt his reputation and jumped ship before it went stale. Expect him to do the same to Leicester in the next year.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Dec 2020 14:02:09

However the league pans out this season I think the majority of us would agree that change is needed.

* NL will be away
* Several players will/ should be sold/ loaned out
* Lawell may retire
* DD with approx 24% of the shares is unlikely to go anywhere (so let's not hold our breath on that one) .

If Lawell does go, his replacement may prove to be just as important as the new manager.

I'm hoping that for once, we look at the model of similar sized clubs in smaller countries aound Europe and opt for a DOF and a capable manager who can mould a winning team that plays the Celtic way over the next 3-5 seasons.

There’s a report tonight suggesting that the relationship between Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell has effectively broken down.
It’s possible Lawwell wants Lennon out and Desmond is digging his heels.
Charlie Nicholas has also predicted that one of Dermot Desmonds sons could take over from Peter Lawwell for next season.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Dec 2020 19:04:55
so if that's the case then desmond should hang his head in shame if its him that's keeping lennon in the job.

08 Dec 2020 18:33:04
That’s Celtic moved Ross county match and hibs match yet there is no mention of trying to catch up the Aberdeen match on wed 16 dec as both of us are out league cup? As slim a chance we look like having of winning the league surely we must catch up this game and close the gap if possible.

JFP
He was the manager of Cluj when we played them last season in both CL qualifiers and the Europa League.
I didn’t realise he’d managed in quite a few countries.
He started off management in the Romanian 2nd Division and he took his club to promotion 17 years ago.
Petrescu has also managed in Poland, Russia, China and Qatar.
I didn’t know he’d managed in those countries. He must be worth a fortune.
If Celtic were interested they would’ve made their move by now.
The search goes on.

Lawell has been interfering for years . We should have invested after Seville. the board never want take next step . I was always under impression that ultimately he ran a tight ship so we would never end up in state we were in in 90s when fergus came in and done his bit. If a certain new club can run at losses in tens of millions since born and nobody says boo It's not exactly a level playing field I'm not sure of this but Why is there no FFP in Scotland ? How can euro teams who adhere to FFP allow it if playing against a non FFP regulated team? Excuse my lack of knowledge on this Just thinking aloud So many questions. 😀. When we going to start winning again being the main one.

You bring up a good point P.73 about Nations with restrictions playing Nations with No restrictions.
UEFA are supposed to have restrictions in place to qualify for their competitions but how have Sevco been allowed to transfer TENS of millions of club debt over to their company and not break the Uefa FFP rules.
I think FFP will be introduced in Scotland if Sevco qualify for the CL and they start to stabilise their finances.
It must be the only thing Scotland haven’t copied the English, who have their own FFP.
My guess is the Scottish Football Authorities didn’t want to watch Showjumping for the next generation but it will eventually be introduced once the club from the Southside stabilise their accounts.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

08 Dec 2020 15:39:26
He’s a realistic target P73.
Dan’s got plenty of European and International experience as a player
And he won the Romanian title 3 years in a row with Cluj as manager.
He likes to play an attacking 4-3-3 formation but he can also mix it up if needed.
The more I look at him the more I think he would be an ideal appointment.
Petrescu will know some cheap European gems to sign and I think players in England would be interested in playing for him.
A bonus for the board is he’s available.

08 Dec 2020 19:31:04
Maybe they have Buzz and he just didn't fancy it yet.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Dec 2020 14:10:48
My fear in all this situation is that by listening to fellow tims on here and friends that say they are not going to renew their season tickets I wonder what will happen to our club unless something positive happens really soon If Lennon is in charge for the next Rangers game I fear for our club because if we lose that game we say goodbye to the 10 even if we bring in a new man it will take a little
time for him to get his views and tactics across. So the longer the board leave it the more chance we won't get 10 And it might have to go into a fire sale to keep the books balanced I really hope that the board have considered that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Dec 2020 15:10:08
The season ticket protest would probably make little difference as the offer would just go to the thousands on the waiting list and that gives Lawell the complacent arrogance that has got us here.
Usually the most effective method of protest are rally's or demonstrations and that is illegal under current CV legislation and we saw a really bad example of that after the Ross Co. game.
The absence of supporters has given the Board an 'untouchable' heir; but to mess-up to this extent in such a momentous season could be their downfall if the season disintegrates into chaos and gradually supporters gain access to vent their feelings.
This won't be the first Board to be ousted by Celtic Fan Power.
The players and manager are responsible up to a point, but looking at the bigger picture ie: appointments and that includes replacing the previous manager with - to be perfectly honest - a 'Patsy'. Recruitment - including selling top players and replacing with average or even misfits; Bringing in loans instead of properly addressing problem positions and all this during an extended summer 'window' where they had plenty time to sell unhappy, want-away players and really prepare and build a squad that could progress from last season's impressive EL and 9-in-a-row successes and kick-on instead of landing us in this predicament.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Dec 2020 15:37:46
It’s a hard pill to swallow but I’ll be renewing I support the club not the board.

Agree4 Disagree0

08 Dec 2020 15:42:46
The season ticket sales will depend on who’s in charge.
I don’t think Lawwell and Lennon will still be there which will be a bonus.
But if they think getting a manager from Ipswich Town will sell season tickets then they’ll need to think again.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2020 13:49:58
With Lennon being reassessed in January, let's hope Celtic have given the nod to a new Manager already. Hopefully he has been told who he can sell, how much his budget is and he is scouring all the games he can manage on SKY etc.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Sjaldad I'm at the point now I don't care whether Lennon stays or goes, its beyond that. I want Desmond and Lawwell gone because unless they go, this will happen again and again.

We should be continually improving on quality but Lawwell thinks he is some sort of messiah whos ego is that big, he thinks he is a wall street wizard/ jose mourinho hybrid and is failing miserably.

We need someone fresh to take the reigns and put football first not bonuses.

And that was 6 weeks ago.
The board are a disgrace.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2020 19:10:47
Something I've realised tonight as well buzz, see instead of signing so many project players over the years, had board spent same money on less players but of more experience perhaps we would of qualified for CL group stages more often, generating more revenue.

I'm praying Desmond sells up.

Rumour has it no one was interviewed prior to Lennon being given the job.

The latest statement says 1 of 2 things to me:
1. They are showing the same pig-headed attitude that got us in to this mess. No one has been approached and they standing by him no matter what. He will get January to get rid of the players who don't want to be there and we can expect more pub league loans to try and salvage the season.
2. Managers have been approached and turned it down or perhaps have said they will take it next summer only, either due to pressures of going for 10 or they are committed to another club until then?

Any thoughts on this ed? Your more in the know than most. Do you think we would have made approaches to managers whilst Neil Lennon is still in the job? I don't doubt agents have been pushing manager names to Lawell over the last few weeks, even months. The talk of their values in that statement suggests to me no moves have been made behind the scene.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - On the day of the Scottish Cup final when we beat Hearts to clinch the 3 x Treble, I left the house sharpish for 6 o'clock Mass expecting David Moyes to be announced as new Celtic manager over the next few days, he had spoken to Dermot Desmond and it was planned that he would meet Lawwell to finalise the deal in the days after the final. By the time I got to Mass Lennon had been given the job in Hampden's showers, much to Moyes surprise according to Ed002.
The fact Lawwell came out and publicly stated he hadn't even looked at any of the applications/interest for the job in his drawer was and still is a massive dereliction of duty on Lawwell's part.
At that time there were plenty of managers interested in the job (although nobody was actually interviewed as such DD had definitely spoken to Moyes and probably a few others) but that's not the case now, the shadow of 10IAR looms over Celtic Park and a lot of people won't gamble their reputation on winning it.
I believe that MON/Keane and Gordon Strachan have been sounded out about taking over until the end of the season if/when the decision to axe Lennon is made. This coming summer the Celtic job will appeal to a lot of people again but it would appeal to a lot more if Lawwell isn't in the CEO position - after Rodgers' time here it's out there how difficult the manager/coach job is with Lawwell's interference in footballing matters.}

08 Dec 2020 12:07:44
Ed007 I know first hand Lawwell has a habit of employing who he wants at celtic Park rather than based on best candidate. The player liason manager, Brendan O'Neil got job because his aunt is Lawwells secretary. The boy had no previous experience and was a gas engineer for City tech beforehand!

Reason I know this is I know Brendan.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2020 12:55:29
The one good thing during this bad spell is Lawell getting the criticism he deserves. Hopefully he's gone in the summer and we get a Director of Football brought in.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Dec 2020 14:42:12
Ed, I totally agree with you on the massive dereliction of duty point. Even if Lawwell hadn't genuinely entertained a single CV received, there is absolutely no benefit to stating that to the media. Any manager who may have been interested at that stage would surely no longer have any intention of applying again - and wouldn't hesitate to let others know how they had been treated.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Dec 2020 23:00:13
Ed007 . love the way you batted the Damian duff suggestion right oot the park 😂. I'd like to start on Thursday against lille by taking a leaf out of mourinos book as he has got spurs so hard to beat. Essentially divide team into defence and attack. Solid back 4 with 2 holding. Has to be Brown and Soro. Only 2 we have and its there sole job to protect the defence. Not dictate play.

Front 4 of Turnbull in middle, calmac inside left, Christie inside right and Eddie up top. These are the 4 that create and score. Moi and Rogic as back up.

A few teams play this way. Crucially the whole team needs to get back to the high press again. If its lennon til new year then the team has to work its socks off un til someone comes in to coach them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Dec 2020 11:56:15
Smkmeskipper I think we need to get back to basics and go 4-4-2. With squad we have at disposal, maybe we could turn things around but dropping Brown and Ntcham is essential. Brown is too wreckless with tackles at moment and for me is a final third sub at most for me.

Soro should be getting a start alongside Turnbull. Really think these two bhoys in midfield could really make a difference. I would give McGregor game off as he looks burnt out and we need him for league.

I would go with

GK Barkas

LB Taylor
CB Julien
CB Elhamed
RB Ajer

LM Moi
CM Turnbull
CM Soro
RM Frimpong

ST Edouard
ST Ajeti

I would go with Taylor over Laxalt as I think Laxalt is a bit of a bombscare at times.

08 Dec 2020 12:51:34
If you are talking about bombscares then it has to be Ajer. He must be the most overrated player at Celtic just now. He cannot defend he thinks that he his a better player than he is. One of the biggest mistakes we made was letting Jozo Simunovic go.
As some people don't want Forster back, they should dump Barkas and put in a bid for David Marshall.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Simunovic still isn't fit enough to find a club, even if he was still here he wouldn't be playing.}

08 Dec 2020 13:39:41
I agree that Ajer is a bombscare but he is a lot better at RB. Don't rate him as CB.

Apparently simunovic can't play in cold weather, knee seizes up or something. Don't know how true it is but makes sense if he is trying to find a club in Turkey.

The fitness of Celtic players was mentioned on Radio Scotland on the 4th of October when Celtic were playing away at St Johnstone, it was mentioned that Celtic players looked tired at 60 minutes.

My thoughts exactly, if an injury free professional football player can’t get fit in a few weeks then something is seriously wrong in the training and management.

Im hoping all those players that need match fitness get picked for Thursday, its a dead game so give it to others and see what we've got.

Ajeti and Charlie Adams comments.

At the time when Celtic were close to signing Albian Ajeti I remember Adam saying in the papers that he had heard that Ajeti was not up to the level that he thinks he is. At the time I thought that It was a pretty big statement from 1 professional To say about another and put it down to the rangers Celtic thing, wind up. Now, I'm thinking Adam was right and Adams choice of words " level he thinks he is " is pointing towards him also have attitude issues? What's every1 else's take? I think Lennon was desperate for Ivan Toney and Ajeti was last minute backup.

Adam's a twit, The boy was outstanding at Basel and never got a chance at West Ham.
He came here and scored 5 in 4 appearances before getting injured and hasn't had a chance since.

If the Celtic defence and midfield worked harder they would be providing Ajeti or Edouard with more decent passes to help him score goals.

The problem is he's in and out all the time ges either been unfit or missed decent chances . he doesn't exactly work his socks off and run the channels.

The keeper issue.

Barkas will never be a Celtic no1 keeper and no chance of him coming good. Stevie wonder can see this. Cut losses now. Get the guy back to Athens cut price deal and bring in the guy bodard from standard liege. That's a top class keeper in the making!
