A young David Marshall was the Celtic hero against Barcelona 20 years ago today.

He kept a clean sheet in the Nou Camp to help Celtic win 1-0 on Aggregate.

Sadly that's now officially 20 years since Celtic last won a knockout tie, after the Group Stages in Europe.

Celtic have lost our last 9 attempts, which have included 3 Italian Clubs and 3 Spanish clubs.

AC. Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus
Barcelona, Villarreal and Valencia.
Zenit, Copenhagen and Bodo Glimt.

It's a poor record, although Celtic were only favourites in our last couple of attempts against Copenhagen and Bodo Glimt.

Cheers buzz. You fancy popping over to stand on my left nut as well.

Talking about pain Gerry,
Our knockout record in Europe has been horrendous.

But I still wouldn’t swap our domestic record in the last 20 years.

Celtic have an outstanding domestic record in that period, especially playing against a cheating Rangers and a corrupt SFA. ?.

Always thought David left too soon.

I don’t know if it’s true
But
I read somewhere that Celtic are the only club from a Country, with a population of less than 10 million,
To Qualify for the CL last 16 MORE than Twice.

As I've pointed out to many a Sevconite, that in that same period of time we have qualified out the groups of the Champions league on 3 occasions, thus meaning that we have essentially knocked out 6 good teams in process of doing so. And on 1 of these occasions we did lose only very narrowly in extra time to AC Milan, the year they either won it or got to the final can't quite remember.

While yes our record in Europe is pretty woeful, I do think getting out the groups of Champions league is far more difficult than last 16 or quarter final of Europa league, As a Celtic fan I always have belief every year that we can get a few decent results that year.

Mind you, it is probably more hopeful or wishful thinking lol. I also do believe even now that it wouldn't take that much for us to start getting a few results. Maybe only 5 good players added to the squad, also glad to see recently some guy's deemed surplus to requirements loaned out and in the shop window.

royjac,
AC. Milan won the CL that season and it was mentioned that Celtic were their toughest opponents.

I really thought Celtic were going to raise levels with our CL income and that would probably also improve our recent European record.

That’s why it’s baffling and frustrating the Celtic Board took the decision this season to downsize our club.

Buzz, as much as I hate to say, it is the Celtic way, hopefully one day before I die (I am almost 51), we will have a board that can run the club like a business and operate like a modern football club is meant to operate. We have to live in hope.
