Financial expert David Low,
Doesn't think it's healthy for Celtic to be so far ahead of our domestic rivals financially.

He said that Mike Tyson would get nothing out of sparring with Barry McGuigan.

Agree1 Disagree0

Buzz, nothing like that was said when the dead were miles ahead of everyone, we were told it was the way it should be, remember the arrogant DM saying 'they spend £5 and we will send £10'.

I appreciate his involvement when the bunnet saved us but what does he want, us to be less successful, it is not our fault they have always had a suicidal board who have no idea how to run a successful business.

He also said that sevco are closer financially to Hearts than us, that just makes me smile.

If we have a decent CL run and they don't qualify, the gap will almost double what it is now.

Makes me even happier as they will have a real choice (If they are still in business) go all in again or play the long game like we did but the difference there is we will continue to grow where they were caught out cheating.

Yeh for them that is a concerning comment but for me, it is payback, karma call it what you like.

Their business model as always been shorterm.

Guys, I'm on board with what you say but as long as our healthy financial situation depends on CL money, it will only take 2 or 3 years of no CL money to bring us backwards. We're in a good position. Fragile is maybe the wrong word but if we go through a bad domestic phase (they're all over the place so I can't see that happening) , then we could get financially weaker. But defo, enjoy the gloat when we can and rub it in ??.

David's a massive celt but ges only speaking the truth but as far as not being healthy to be so far ahead it must have been tongue firmly in cheek.

If we hadn't 'put the brakes on' in 2012 just think how much of a gulf there would be now; but the 5-way agreement held us back.
It's true Scottish football hasn't been so dominated by Celtic since the 60's and 70's, when the SFA had to change the league format although were happy enough with the status quo in the 90's when EBT United were spending tax free cash like water.
The unfortunate thing for Celtic during this current domestic success is although we are the best team with huge resources and a world wide brand, we have fallen well short of previous European standing.

@9iar I don't think our financial situation is dependent on CL money, as has been proven over the years when we didn't have it.

Don't get me wrong, the CL money puts us in an even stronger position and I am glad we have it.

Let me put things in perspective here. Our last set of accounts had our revenue at 119.9M (I suspect it will be more this season) . Sevco's best ever was circa 88M and that was them getting to a European final and significant player sales. Normally they are around the 70-75M mark.

Before they died the gap was around 10M but it is now at 30M+. There is no denying we are well run financially and we are miles ahead of them. Obviously Scotland is a 1-2 horse race, so they only need to be better than all the rest to have a chance of catching us in the league, but as we have seen, we are hard to catch.

David states we're worth 250m sevco are worth 19m that's why they're closer the their cousins in Edinburgh. bit like espanyol.

Celtic are not responsible for the environment that we find ourselves. That honour belongs to the people who run our associations, who would rather cling to their delusions of self importance rather than progress in any meaningful way. They run things like the old foggies who sit on committees at a workmen’s club. We as a club need to look outwards rather than inwards. Football will eventually change and we need to be ready for when it does.

19 million pounds at 4 pence a share that's a lot of shares lol.

19 Jul 2024 12:56:09
Probably closer to Patrick thistle than they are to us. ?.

I love it. For those of us who lived through, “they put a fiver down, we put a tenner. ” Murray love in by the Sevconian press, this is sweeter than honey. If any of the press ask Rogers if the imbalance is fair, he shouid ask. Show me the articles you all wrote about the same situation when it was your team that had more money, then we can’t talk. Next question.

Celtic are in a unique once in a generation position, to modernise and improve many aspects of our stadium and training facilities. If we want to encourage better young players to sign for us and stay longer we need to improve what we have to offer at Lennoxtown and Celtic Pk . We need to be careful even though we will probably have at least two indoor pitches and indoor training facilities, we still need to have all our squad training and playing in-house matches out of doors to get use to, if that is possible, to the rigours of a Scottish winter, as most of our games played in Scotland last season seemed to be played in horrible conditions.
We need to bring dressing rooms up to European Standard, not only for the players, but I read somewhere that one of our forum members was embarrassed.
Our improvements including ticket office and hopefully hotel, will have to be funded without having an adverse effect on funding for new players, coaches etc . It appears at this time we can fund both, but if we get too far ahead of the other teams in the SPL, which is and should always be our our bread and butter, we will find it difficult to entice the quality of better footballers that our fans rightfully yearn . If our players feel they are too good for SPL, our fans will soon realise players are more like playing on auto - play, rather than give it all every game they play . This will lead to drop in Season Book sales and parts of stands closed off . The club cannot thrive and grow in these circumstances, so the best thing club can do is try to improve facilities as much as possible and build and improve team to improve our Champions League standards without out growing our domestic game.

Celtic will continue to try and develop our youngsters but then they will hit another brick wall.

The current set up in Scotland is preventing our young “reserve” players from progressing into our 1st team.
It will stay that way until Scottish football brings back a competitive reserve league.

The reserve league was scrapped because clubs couldn’t afford it anymore.
Ideally the SPFL need to find a Sponsor to get it back to where it once was.

Sevco would bury us if they had the chance, no doubt about it. Its not our responsibility to keep them relevant. we need to strengthen for Europe and enjoy the carnage that unfolds at Ibrox ( hampden?) .

19 Jul 2024 21:09:04
There is no doubt that Sevco would bury us if they had a chance . However Celtic based on previous actions by our supporters cannot bury Sevco . David Low mentions after 2012 when Celtic realised there was no real challenge to them domestically, the fans didn’t buy season tickets and attendances dropped, parts of stands were closed and atmosphere was affected . It wasn’t until I don’t Sevco returned to SPL, Celtic fans returned in bigger numbers and brought back the atmosphere that Celtic crowds are renowned for . Celtic players had to push themselves harder and became better players . Without serious SPL opposition Celtic’s performance in Europe would be even worse according to David Low . He reckons improvement in Europe should be Celtic’s next target.
