On the subject of Idah, I’d love Celtic to play hardball and call Norwich bluff and stick an offer in for Mijovski, then they’d be left with a despondent player who’s already stated he wants to leave. No way should we be left hanging by them.

Or forget both and buy Kevin denkey.

As much as I'd like us to sign Idah, I agree, we need another option up our sleeve as we can't afford to wait until the 11th hour to sign him.

If the Board and BR want Idah, and if Idah wants to join Celtic then Celtic Board need o do everything possibly to make deal come true . It isn’t every day that a player really wants and we want him . We can’t be too fussy and even though I don’t understand the term eleventh hour in this context .
Is relating to first match in America tour, or is. It relating to Ist SPL match, or close of window . Obv We can’t wait for ever hopefully we get deal done.

I was hoping the Idah business would have been a lot smoother; similar to when we signed Samaras after his loan.
I sincerely hope it's not our Board humming and hawing over the fee because it's fair to say that if he improves as expected the club will get several times what is paid now if he was to be sold-on.
The fact that season tickets have been sold and we have already made money on players leaving makes it hard to understand the delay.

Idah has Eddie Howe vibes about it. Hopefully we have 2 strikers coming in ASAP.
18 Jul 2024 15:09:44
its not the board its his club who are wanting to keep him.
18 Jul 2024 15:46:25
You cannot buy someone the other club do not want to sell. All they have to say is we want 10 million and we will walk away but first of all we need to know exactly what their minimum price is, so we can make an offer or walk away.
If we already know that number and don't want to pay it, why are we mucking about we should be looking elsewhere. It is a pointless exercise of they have no intention of dropping heir price and we have no intention of meeting that price.
Let's be honest it is not going to be any easier going for Miovski, the sheep will also have a minimum price.
The longer we dilly dally, the less chance the board have of supporting the Manager properly because it is his job that is ultimately on the line, if we have a poor season.
18 Jul 2024 15:48:13
I'm guessing we are negotiating with Norwich and both clubs will be trying to get the best deal for themselves. Whether or not we are willing to meet their valuation remains to be seen.
18 Jul 2024 16:24:42
The idah situation is the same as the ORiley situation. If Atlanta and ORiley want the deal but won’t go above 20 million and we want 25 we would quite rightly tell them to do one. Why should another club run their interests any different? It’s best offer with a deadline for idah then move on and let them deal with an unhappy player. I refuse to get wound up by this, and will trust the manager until he declares again that we haven’t been brave enough. It’s then on the board with no degree of ambiguity.
18 Jul 2024 17:04:55
@north, I would go along with that. ?.
18 Jul 2024 17:18:23
Denkey is valued over 20m now.

Too many supporters are quick to blame our Board for prolonged negotiations for incoming transfers. I have little doubt that Celtic Board does spend some more time checking transfers . F MC C knew he could trust the Board when he was involved In a legal case and beat J Farry . We have to be careful with all transfer since .
The large delays are about one side or other not completely happy . Celtic. As buying club, the selling club &. agents . We have no idea who is delaying, or what, term of new contract, add ons. , agent’s fees, all can cause delays.
{Ed007's Note - See for the people who are talking about the board dragging their heels, maybe the fact there is only 6 board meetings a year is holding things up if they can only negotiate one day every 2 months.
Do people honestly think the board sit there doing 9 to 5 every day and negotiate transfers etc? The board as a whole have very little - if anything at all - to do with transfer targets or negotiations.}

Who says we have t walked away already maybe that's why the Norwich h manager is saying he is important to his club as . If he breaks that we have walked away then he can say they never wanted to sell him. That's just my take on the situation anyway.
18 Jul 2024 19:17:38
i'm a bit inbetween regarding idah, if they really do want to keep him then i want him but if they're playing a game to get more cash then i look at it like why would we want a player who norwich don't really want, he's no gerd muller.
18 Jul 2024 17:37:24
Norwich are entitled to ask for what they feel is appropriate. They are doing no different than what we are doing with oriley. Atalanta haven't met our valuation so he remains our player.
There isn't much holding up the deal, and to be honest its probably fine details like addons holding it up. He will be a celt soon enough.
18 Jul 2024 22:39:51
@ed while I agree that most of the board are not directly involved in transfers, I was under the impression that it was our CEO who dealt with transfer business.
{Ed007's Note - Nicholson and Chris McKay will do the negotiations, I think some fans think there's a conference call with other clubs and agents and PL shouting over everyone about his non existent bonus. Nicholson, McKay and ultimately DD decides who we sign financially , it's who pulls the trigger from the footballing department that has been a constant problem over the years, hopefully it's Rodgers this window.
I was speaking to someone the other day that compared Nicholson to Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory with his meticulous eye for detail and perhaps a fear of failure after the Dom McKay rumoured eff ups with contracts.

I would imagine Nicholson has the correct skill set for making deals and contracts as I believe he is a trained lawyer.
