Come September I think there are going to be a lot of our fans disappointed. Yes I believe we will make signings and yes I believe Rodgers will be involved in picking them.

However, I don't think we will change our wage structure and I still think we will continue buying project players. In addition I don't see us changing how much we spend and I expect a negative net spend once we sell MOR.

The reason I say that is I believe the board are happy with the wage structure, and have seen no reason to change their transfer policy. I reckon they solely blame last year's disaster on the recruitment team, hence the reason they sacked baby Lawwell and Co.

While I personally would like us to shop in a higher price bracket and be willing to stretch what we pay in wages for the correct players and believe we have the means to do so. My main aim is to improve our first team. If we manage to do that then I will be happy.

Weejoe,

when Pandora's box was opened and the Ill's of the world released all that remained was hope.

I fear you could well be right given the obvious positions that require strengthening in our starting 11.

Nonetheless, we should never give up hope.

Guys a PROFESSIONALLY RUN CLUB (which our board are NOT) would have signed new players and took them to USA to bed in before season starts.

I reckon as long as Celtic are the dominant force in Scotland, the Board will feel complacently justified in their methods.
The Lockdown League was the only time in recent years that DD had to crack the whip and even then the budget was still priority.
Our lack of clout and expected impact in Europe has reduced us to a very big fish in a small bowl - thanks in part to the death of Rangers and the fact we can still dominate by spending prudently.
Sadly for the anticipation and hopes for the support I agree we will continue to spend as little as possible, but sell for as much as we can get and although we got out of jail free last season. However, if any serious challenge transpires or the CL qualifiers come around again, we will have serious questions to answer.

Hi Joe,
Maybe I’m the eternal optimist however I believe Celtic will spend good money over the next two transfer windows. We have an awful lot of dead wood to move on and I can’t see it all being achieved in one window. i agree that as long as we improve the team we will all be happy. A CB and LB will come in. Rodgers not daft and he can see the glaring weaknesses which will be ruthlessly exposed in the champions league.

21 Jul 2024 12:18:35
Not a single rumour of a LB and CH which are a priority. Along with Centre Def Mid and 2 strikers. If Idah and Bernardo come back in do we have faith in Brendan and our recruitment team to get in another 4 or 5?

It is not always about the board and money.

It would be interesting to see how many players have been approached and have either said no or are waiting on possible better offers for better leagues?

Our league is not the most attractive and is used as a stepping-stone when players can't get directly into a top team.

Celtic are a massive club in a small league and have to accept this when trying to get players.

All that said, we also have to be aware of our spending limitations as we do need to remember that we have expenses to keep the club running and we do not generate the kind of revenue some small clubs down south can.

The Celtic Board know Celtic are easily good enough to win another title but are miles off competing properly in the CL groups.

Celtic will make another handsome profit in this transfer window because O’Riley will be sold, unless the player demands to stay, which is doubtful.

Our future is still very bright but our 20 year old European knockout record has become embarrassing.

City and utd are going to America not having done much business. iam not saying we'll spend like them obviously but the window has been very quiet up till mow. I'd be expecting some business once we're home. and why would we sell our 2nd striker without a replacement come on we're not that badly run.

21 Jul 2024 14:07:28
Agree with all of the above, unfortunately. It's not a criticism, more it is what it is. We dominate domestically, get the CL money, then get battered in Europe. To get some balance, we've a bloated squad and much as we need strengthening, we can't add and add without shedding deadwood. On a wider scale, I hope the Board take heed of the results of the fan survey. I forgot to ask about the hotel update as that could be a good money spinner. Just look at the Hotel Football at Old Trafford. We should be doing the same but I've got the vibes that's down the swanee now. Apols. I digressed.

Our team is good enough to win SPL but not to get within miles of competing properly in Champions league . Celtic’s difficulty in performing in Champions League, is that the young players they sign want away to a more competitive league as they think SPL isn’t pushing them enough . Funny enough many fans seem to think the same and thinks the £25 to £30k available for a still developing player isn’t enough and affecting players wealth . Once before Celtic got far ahead of field and fans, especially those from wee6 and England stopped attending . I couldn’t believe, having travelled by plane for a few yrs found so few buses, on boat I thought match had been cancelled, this was time of the partial closing of stands. Celtic have to find away of keeping fans interested and yet domestic success not turning away fans.

21 Jul 2024 15:13:34
@des The team under Ange and Rodgers first season showed that the fans are interested and will pack the stadium every home game, as long as there is a good product on the pitch.

While we done well under Strachan, the team was mostly terrible to watch and this was reflected by the number of seasons ticket holders that didn't attend a lot of the domestic games.

A lot of Celtic fans want more than winning, they want to win but be entertained and excited doing it. With the gulf between us and the other teams, there is no reason we should not be doing that.

21 Jul 2024 16:57:01
Given the alleged size of the waiting list the appetite for watching Celtic is huge.

21 Jul 2024 17:57:43
I agree wee Joe. The football under GS was a hard watch lots of the time but you know what, and guys on here may disagree, given he was given much less to spend than MON, I hold GS in higher regard than MON.

The league is always our bread and butter but surely we should be aiming for a top half finish in our CL group.
