I would say a young Nicholas in his 1st Celtic spell.

{Ed007's Note - I'd agree with that, Buzz. Charlie Nicholas should have went on to become one of the top strikers in Europe but he put the bright lights of London before his footballing career.}

It was ironic that Judas was booed by the Celtic supporters around about 1986/ 87.

I’m guessing it was because he was not committing to our club.

I can remember my Dad was raging at the time because no Celtic player should get booed by their own supporters.

Then only a few years later Judas became Celtic enemy number one.

Judas was the 1st player in a Celtic strip I can remember getting booed by our supporters.

In their best years st celtic there was very little between them in scoring percentage and they where here for similar lengths of time. but without his horrific leg break nicholas could possibly have been a goal a game striker . I'd go for nicholas but would happily have any combination of the 3 of them.

Buzz, this is always bOthered me and your the man who could solve it. A went to Cappielow many many moons ago and a young Charlie Nicholas was playing, ther was an old guy (as a called him) playing on the wing who was lightning fast, could that have been our very oen Buzz bomb, am sure it was a reserve game.

Nicholas was as gifted as they come.

Don Howe turned his head with all the sh! t he would do for him. Just to make sure no-one else got him. I used to go and watch CN in the Reserves before he broke through and him and Danny Crainey were telepathic. Can remember the pair of them playing in the Fives in London and they blew the other teams away.

I was going to add, what you wrote Ed in my reply.

I can remember the Rangers fans singing
“Where’s your Charlie gone”
That proved they were glad he was sold.

{Ed007's Note - ?

I’d probably agree Nicholas was an absolute class act but Mo Johnstone was top drawer and McAvennie was fantastic not least in the centenary year for us I’d take any of the three of them and the minute in terms of quality.

Mo Jo the man remembered fondly by neither half of Glasgow.

It’s possible Troy.

Nicholas didn’t play in the first team until after Lennox left but it’s possible they played in the same reserve team in the 1979/ 80 season.

Nicholas actually broke his leg at Cappielow in a Friendly match against Morton a couple of years later.

Thanks buzz, am sure it was Bobby Lennox and at the ripe old age of 70 he was still lightning fast ?.

20 Nov 2023 17:13:52
Buzz, Nicholas and Lennox were in the same squad in 1980/ 1981.

Can remember Johnstone and Murdoch taking the Reserves in the early 80's and then Lennox himself took over. Lennox also acted as the sponge man and seeing him racing on when a player needed a cuddle was mindblowing. He never lost the speed he had.

Troy. johnny doyle (rip) is also a possibility . with his thinning bubble perm he looked older?. think bobby left the season charlie broke through into first team.

Thanks drb but am sure it was a reserve game def could b wrong there, that was the days Morton v Celtic there was 18000 capacity, great wee atmosphere.

20 Nov 2023 18:21:38
Macca the treasure hunter for me, think he had a bit more steel about him than the other two.

20 Nov 2023 18:28:47
Bobby Lennox last game for Celtic was the 1980 Scottish Cup Final, when Celtic won the football and the fighting.

Lennox joined the Celtic coaching staff 6 months later.

Charlie Bhoy for me. I try and deceive myself that when he scored at *inland he was looking at me at the front of the Broomloan when he did his wee dance. Would never pick Judas, not in a million years. I'd rather pick Wayne Biggins ( did I get his name right) ?

Based on pure ability it has to be Nicholas.
