Hi Ed. Was just wondering on your thoughts on clubs ability to sell individual matches that aren't aired. Is this something you can see carried into other seasons? I personally think is a potential Huge money spinner. Any ideas on how many sales Celtic would target? I would of thought along the lines of, a streaming season ticket, 100,000 sales. 200 quid (approx 10er a games at 20 games for easy maths) could potentially earn 20 million a year. I have just plucked 100,000 as a rough figure. No idea how much of and over or under estimation this is. I do believe this is the way football will look to go globally with the pub league bigger teams looking a bigger slice of the pie. For example there is no way a Bournemouth would generate 100mil from TV rights, but a utd potentially could earn many multiples of this. This for me could be about of s financial leveller between ourselves, rangers and the bigger leagues across Europe. However may leave to big a gap with other Scottish teams.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Without changes to the law regarding broadcasting 3 p.m. K.Os nobody will be able to sell access to streams of games and once the Covid stuff is all over those laws will once again be enforced.}

28 Jul 2020 20:35:31
Ed is it not the clubs who push the no broadcast at 3 rule?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm sure there's some old government regs from the 60s that cover it across the UK mate. If there wasn't anything like that - considering the £ that could be made - there would be teams willing to break the rules and probably go thriugh the courts for the financial gain at the end of it.}

28 Jul 2020 18:22:56
Peterborough confirm a Scottish team has bid for Ivan Toney.

I was told 3 days ago that Rangers made a move for him by a mate who claims to have contacts with a few agents. Same guy told me Greg Taylor wanted to snub us for Rangers so his info is always a hit and a miss, more the latter.

Just wondering Ed if you have any info on us bidding for Toney now that Ajeti apparently has cold feet. There's is obviously a connection with Strachan coaching with us now.

Also Ed do you hold any concerns about us selling Edouard this window? New contract talks seemed to have cooled and we are being linked with variety of strikers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I don't know of any further talks regarding Toney and if it is us that have put in a bid (did their chairman say when this bid went in?) the Peterborough's chairman will have royally pi$$ed off Peter Lawwell. I think Darragh McAnthony is being economical with the truth. And I'm not believing some West Ham bloggers take on Ajeti's situation.
Right now I have no concerns that Edouard will leave.}

28 Jul 2020 21:05:22
I think Peterborough are talking gash in an attempt to force a transfer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - 👍

28 Jul 2020 21:09:44
Good to hear Ed. I always had the feeling french Eddy fancied 10 in a row but with the amount of forwards linked wondered if something was in the pipeline.

The team is shaping up nicely. 1 or 2 more on top of Ajeti and Barkas and I think we could have a team for the league and European run and then field a team for the league Cup and Scottish Cup, and still be favourites for the treble.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm still optimistic that Edouard will sign the contract extension and as I've said on other threads about the number of strikers we'll need 4 if we're going 3-5-2.
Overall I think we've done OK so far in the window, replacing Forster with Barkas could be a masterstroke even financially, Elyounoussi resigning for the year could be massive for us as he has the potential to run amok up here and is already a potential POTY. When you look at the performances of Klimala, Soros and some of the youngsters there is a level of quality waiting in the wings.
The only negative is Simunovic and that's more to do with the number of CBs although for me Welsh could easily take his place in the squad.
The most important thing was sorting out the GK situation and now we've done that - and with spending decent money - let's hope Pedro keeps the good(ish?) work he's done so far, will he show the ambition for CL qualifiers though 😋
I just needed to get that dig in there lol.}

Am I the only one that's glad jozo has left the building?

{Ed007's Note - We'll always have this....... 💚😢

28 Jul 2020 22:58:50
Couldn't agree more regarding MOI. injury free and good run of games he will run the show up here I predict 20+goals no problem.

When miller finally lands I'm sure he'll agree it was a great tackle.

He was worth signing purely for that tackle Ed. Thing of absolute beauty.

There's Daniel Church as LB cover - good technical LB in the Development Squad.
Gutman I doubt we'll ever see - work permit issue.
Arzani has gone back to MC - looks like going on loan in Holland.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 20:20:48
Probably win the league that second 11.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 20:42:13
I follow the Development Squad, and used to go to PH to watch the Reserves and the BP youths back in the 80s.

Looking at the current Dev Squad - it's the most potent I've seen in a long time after the few that moved on two or three weeks ago.

There's something special happening with the squad that's assembled and I think there's going to a lot more coming through in the next season or two.

My old man used to say any striker worth there salt could get 20 goals a season with celtic due to the chances we make. Maybe Bayo just can't handle being at a big club.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

28 Jul 2020 16:59:29
Well, I would say any striker worth his salt, won't get any goals if he is not being played.

Any names popping up regarding a new centre half.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jul 2020 16:28:50
I hope we can dig up some one like a Paul Elliott soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 18:24:19
Good shout Tony you’re not asking much though asking for the best centre half I’ve seen at Celtic Park in my lifetime other than Van Dyke! Boruc, McGrain, Elliot, Van Dyke and KT wouldn’t be a bad benchmark eh?

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 19:44:47
Elliot was great but I liked big Johan. Would also have tom boyd over kt. No doubt kt will be better but based on their time at celtic boyd gets my vote.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 20:03:13
KT loses massive points for his time at the club and is no Celtic great for me. Tommy Boyd and Johan are great shouts and left us with better memories. I was speaking purely on ability and potential. Good points though 👍☘️.

28 Jul 2020 21:28:18
Paul Elliot 🙇‍♀️.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 22:00:22
Loved big Elliot. that's how I want a defender to play, big stubbsie is up there too, a centre half that could spray 40 yard diagonal passes into the path of a running winger. Top class the pair of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 22:19:00
big elliot was better than Mjällby by a good bit.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 23:58:01
I don't understand why we haven't tapped into the Dutch market again. I remember when we all realised big virgil was a player, some Dutch coach was interviewed and said that there was plenty more like him if not better! . Something to do with the way the Dutch are coached from a young age in reading the game etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2020 00:20:28
Far better kev but big johan was immense.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2020 00:21:25
Hmmm I wonder who I'd pick?

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2020 02:06:55
Maybe worth getting a dutch coach in briggs? Wonder what jansen is up to? Or hiddink.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 15:42:15
Would have thought a Winger who could play either side would have been a greater priority than another forward now Kilmala appears to have found his feet and a Centre half a definate before we go into the later stages of Europe. If Bolingoli leaves try our hardest to get Gutman a Visa.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jul 2020 16:01:32
Definitely need a winger as Hayes is gone, Johnston is injured, plus I think maybe Shved and Arzani are away? I think NL has seen enough of Boli preseason to have made up his mind, so a LB would also be very wise, or even a guy that can play left or right back?
I think as long as we have Ajer, Jullien, El Hamed, Welsh and Bitton, we can cover both central defense positions.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 16:37:12
If we are regularly going to play 2 up front you need 4 first team ready strikers.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 17:28:24
I liked our Ed. idea of getting a left footed CB who can also fill in at left back if need be. Similar to what Elhamad can do on the right side.
It would be ideal because we also have Bitton who is good enough to cover at CB.
A winger who can also play on either wing would be another bonus with Mikey Johnston still out with a long term injury.
Add that to our imminent goalkeeper and forward signings and we are good to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 22:05:34
I think boli could possibly do a job as cover at lw, we need cover at lb or even a first pick and let taylor fight it out with him. If we get ateji and barkas too that would leave only a cb for me to be very happy. 😀.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 11:43:04
Bayo out with a hamstring injury story if his career may scupper any loan and chocolate boy out again and we haven't kicked a ball since March. time to get rid he's stealing a wage much like compper and borigter.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jul 2020 11:51:38
Rogic is the same.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 12:15:41
Who the feck is Chocolate boy?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Rogic?}

28 Jul 2020 12:16:01
I’d get rid of Rogic, considering his wages, he’s hardly even a good squad player anymore. He’s played 30 games in two seasons roughly. About 1/ 3rd of them off the bench. And probably pockets 25k a week.

Agree3 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 12:25:44
Funny me and ed007 have been saying that about rogic for a long time and took absolute pleters on this site because of it.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 12:49:56
Think Rogic has only played 90 odd games, since he signed in 2013 and when you compare that to two other players signed the same season - Bitton (265 games) and Griffiths (233 games) - who have also had battles with injuries/ fitness, it's a very poor return over 7 seasons. I hope we go back in for Turnbull, if he's 100%?

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 12:59:25
Sicknote not chocolate boy. The latter would offend many. He must have some sort of record for most injuries beating Jozo.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's quite a common turn of phrase to say somebody is made of chocolate, only a moron would be offended by it.
And couldn't calling anyone sicknote be seen as offensive to many disabled people?}

28 Jul 2020 13:15:31
Spot on ed rogic is a passenger he has ability in abundance but it's no use if he can't play.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Rogic will pop up with the odd wonder goal but he's never done enough hard work in training or on the pitch. I remember reading an article years ago - but for the life of me I can't find it now - and it quoted a guy from Oz who said Rogic would never be able to handle the physical demands of playing 90 mins of football regularly and he would never be anything more than a glorified futsal player.
Lennon said LG was picking up injuries in training because he wasn't fit enough, why isn't he in the media explaining why Rogic's fitness hasn't improved and he's been picking up injuries since he signed him 7 years ago?}

28 Jul 2020 13:43:09
Good point mate. pc brigade can do one me thinks.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 14:47:27
100% Heard he's made of chocolate numerous times. Never heard anyone shouting chocolate boy but if that puts me in the pc brigade and a moron in the eye's of some fair enough 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Why didn't you say it offended you rather than say it "would offend many"?}

28 Jul 2020 15:03:26
I could see your point ninja if it was a black player he was on about but rogic is white.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 15:11:22
Ed
Wrong post i only asked who chocolate boy was. Personally wouldn't say it offends me but it makes you think in this modern multi cultural world we live in. i've already said if some think im a moron or in the pc brigade fair enough. I can't change people's mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Ah right sorry but I said if you find it offensive you're a moron, if you don't then how can you be a moron? Have you never heard the term "chocolate leg" that players use to describe their weaker foot, I think it was Robin van Persie that coined the phrase?
This modern multi cultural world we live in even has white chocolate these days.}

28 Jul 2020 15:38:31
Ed
Heard shouts at football. "His legs are made of chocolate" " He's about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Never Chocolate boy 🤷‍♂️. don't know why the big deal to explain comment if you completely believe the phrase couldn't be construed differently. I thought it was a weird phrase to use. Wasn't offended just made me think. I asked who chocolate boy was. Then a barge of explanation if its a common term used fair enough. Never heard it at football.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 15:39:09
Ffs it's term used when a player is constantly injured chocolate is soft and easy to break bit like rogic. hence the fecking saying . jeeez.

28 Jul 2020 15:45:52
Sell rogic and bayo move young dembele upto the first team squad and we will be saving about 30ish grand a week.

Nothing offends me. The panty wetters and pc brigade was what I meant. Im disabled and can see the funny side of everything.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 16:46:33
Chocolate legs for someone who is injury prone and Biscuit Wrists for keepers that can't hold a ball.

What is it with footballers and confectionaries?

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 18:05:18
why would calling a player chocolate bhoy because of how injury prone he is be offensive if he is getting called it because of skin colour then that's a no go but if its to do with constant injury why would any one be offended by that or find it would offend people.

With Ajeti due to arrive tomorrow, Klimala pushing for a place, Griff back in the good-books, Elyounnoussi in good form, the perennial JF who invariably starts a season on fire and big Eddy the automatic main striker choice, we seem to be very well covered up front.
Apart from Bayo possibly loaned-out, does anyone think there will be bids for a star player, like previous seasons where we sold for big bucks?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jul 2020 10:21:44
Get the goalie and Ajeti signed then we need a quality left back and a quality centre back, I’d sign Stephen O’Donnell to cover Frimpong at right back which would let El Hamed play centre back if needed and maybe Hladky so Doohan and Hazzard can go out on loan to gain experience.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 10:42:29
Not selling or top players this season will do for me. Can still see a few top players being sold to cover C.V. finical hit.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 11:03:27
If there was one to go, I'd prob say it would be ntcham, clear to see that brown, Cristie and McGregor are the first picks, could get decent money for ntcham for a guy who won't be starting most games, give soro and Robertson a chance to cover the midfield, just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 11:15:59
A lb is a must unless young mcinroy is decent i haven't seen him really but if not we need one in case Taylor gets injured and he seems to pick up a few.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 11:47:14
McInroy isn't a LB, he's a midfielder and most of the best games he has had in the Development Squad has been as a midfielder. Same as Calmac slotting into LB - that was Rodgers and NL experimenting. The signings made after the two who are apparently coming in will define whether we are well placed for the 10 and in Europe. Any sales such as Eddy, Ntcham or Ajer would need to be replaced to keep the momentum going.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 12:56:03
Ntcham has probably been our best player in pre season. Why sell him and keep Rogic who can't stay injury free for a string of games? When he isn't injured he's blowing out his arse after 10mins and contributes very little towards goals either.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 13:22:53
Ntcham would make us more money, you say ntcham has been are best player in pre season but he won't start on Sunday, the original thread was about maybe having to sell top players and my opinion would be to sell ntcham as you would get good money and not disrupting the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 13:58:09
Ed, do we know what is happening with Gutman? He has been getting rave reviews for a couple of performances and could potehtially fill in as backup or even push for LB.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Gutman is struggling to get a work-permit again so will probably stay on at FC Cincinnati mate.}

28 Jul 2020 14:25:44
Who cares if ntcham would make us more money. He makes our team better and that's all I care about.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 15:21:18
Thanks Ed! Would be great if he can get onboard soon!

Gotta say also Ed, I always enjoy your responses to folk and the information you give us! I have been on and off the site for quite a few years now and have always enjoyed the banter you bring to the site! It is very clear the difference between our site and sevco's, you foster intelligent conversation and enable us all to have a great laugh in the process!

Thanks Ed.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Thanks very much mate, you'll have me blushing here lol}

28 Jul 2020 15:49:18
Do you think gutman or perez will ever get a work permit for us or do you think they will just be sold.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't think they will and be be sold or probably freed.}

28 Jul 2020 00:02:33
On Sunday it will be the start of a new season.
But some things never change.
Unpredictable Wullie Collum will be the referee for our game against Hamilton.
One in every three Premiership games he was referee last season involved Celtic.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jul 2020 08:26:06
We knew what to expect Buzz; however the 'rotation' of match officials (especially for Sevco games) is like the four seasons.
The honest mistakes will be in free-flow in empty stadia, but at the end of the day, we have the ability and class to overcome.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2020 12:07:07
If there are the usual honest mistakes, especially in Sevco and Sheep games, wouldn't like to be on the touchline when NL goes radio.

I remember a load of guys used to moan about Bobby Madden. But to be honest anytime he has took charge of our games against sevco he has always been fair. In my opinion.
