Daniel Kelly rejected our contract offer. He's one we should be keeping tabs on and not let slip away.

Again he will be another player who is smart and knows the club has no foresight. Is this a tell tale sign that nothing is changing?

Some times far away fields are not always green . There have been quite a lot of Daniel’s age have sought pastures new . Most of these have yet to show any visible football benefits . Some seem to have grabbed a beauty to keep them warm . Our fans complain about players not getting training with first team and playing time . Not the case with Daniel .
Any player, either a novice starting off or an experienced player should always leave if he thinks he is too good for club.

Apart from doak, Robertson how many have left our reserve / young sides and have gone on to anything special. Very few which shows:
a : they are not as good as they think they are or being told they are by their reps
B : our youth set up is not very good as we rarely produce players good enough for our first team for a consistent period, we regularly get beaten off most of the European teams in tournaments.
If he wants to go then so be it, but as a caveat I would have liked us to get the best possible coaches for the youth set up as well as prominent positions in the club . No disrepecrt but if Darren o dea and Steven McManus are the best two youth coaches around I’d be surprised. This promoting from with needs to change if we are to progress.
The new chief scout/ director of football will probably be from within as well.

You can only bring horse to water, you can’t make him drink .
I think we have always a crop of good 15/ 16 year old who have been eager to learn and want to do better . As they get older they believe the hype about them and listen to people who question the ability of their coaches . Suddenly they know best and with their fawning parents especially father, a continental coach knows best, and before we know Celtic have lost another young starlet and in a couple years time he probably not be a professional football . If only Celtic had employed some super continental coach, the young starlet may never have made a pro - footballer but he would his mammy would have kept him in clean socks and fed him daily.

Guys the report I read said the boy and his agent were still keen on signing new contract and were still negotiating.

Tells you the club are being tight again Tim. That’s the problem.

It is easy to discount your statement . We have over 40 Professionals on our books and the reason that from about 12-15 of them are on our books is that we are paying them too much money and so nobody will buy them or even take them for nothing . If we pay a lump of their wages, we might get them moved out on loan .
It’s the curse of overpaying that causes us the biggest Problem every window .
An example young Vata and his father has toured the European hotspots, but he can’t get a deal which is an improvement on Celtic.

Kelly looks the best prospect we’ve had in years. Letting him go for nothing would be a mistake.

Young Dembele had a good season. Doak being mentioned as one of Steve Clarkes 2 wilcards for Euros. THe lads at Bayern have had decent loans but those are players that we could and should have kept.
If Kelly and Vata leave then I dispair. What on earth is going on with our youths. There are good youngsters in our squad and I would hope to see 1 or 2 after we beat sevco on Sat.
Celtic are not a development club for our first team. The youth teams seem more to save face these days as they contribute nothing due to the fans insistence on winning team.
The fan in me but I loved seeing youngsters making the 1st 11. From McLaughlin to Donnelly. Jack Aitcheson to Tierney. Bring back those days and pathways for the young bhoys. Sooner we re enter a reserve league the better. Sorry for the rant.

Nailed it Kieran!

There’s no excuses for retaining our talented players. The fact is our set up is abysmal and gives the players no direct route to the first team.

Maybe the Board should consider putting something into manager contact that he must give some game time to our youth players .
Martin O’Neil blamed us fans, I think he was unfair, when he said he couldn’t play youngsters because fans demanded wins every week .

You only should ever get a game if you’re good enough. The truth is, none of those who have come through for years have been anywhere near good enough. Squad players at best, most move away and are never heard of again.

Although if I have missed any that left us and went on to great things in the last ten years, I am all eyes.

Age isn’t the problem, ability, or lack of, is. KT is the last to make a position his own. That is a deplorable stat.
