Mh takeaways from today's game;-
* we made very hard work of that
* happy to secure 3 points
* lack of strength in depth is when Yang starts and he's replaced by Forrest - neither good enough
* Scales - MOTM? Shambles, he should never be a first 11 selection at Celtic - NEVER
* Nygren did well
* Idah - how many chances does he require to score?
* The players on the park and the bench demonstrated how short we are of quality - poor

Forrest is a terrific player and Scales was outstanding! Not sure what game you were watching! See this is the thing people mistake their opinions for reality and this is where the illusion comes from that board hasn't backed BR, we need this, we need that, he can't be a good player because he's only got 8 letters in his name or because I've never heard of him. Too many people trying to run the club and be a manager from their keyboards!

That’s Very harsh criticism imo, especially targeting Scales and Idah for whatever reason. We’d 76% possession, hit the bar, post six times, St Mirren played 10 man defense, they had no shots on target. Ref or VAR did us no favors. Overall I’m happy with the result against these odds. Yet you pick our individual players I feel doesn’t help on flag day? Fist game ??.

Bhoy88 your bang on scales was our best player followed by callum, nygren was far too safe and needs to be more expansive, engles was good when he came on, but if the board watched that and uthink everything is OK we're on bother.

Is Tierney injured?

Scales is scales not very good on the eye but in general he is reliable and done well today . Idah didn't . below par performances from most players today . but 3 points from a poor performance is all you can ask for.

Anyone saying Forrest is not good enough needs to have a word with themselves. Still arguably the best winger we have and a genuine club legend. Scales didn’t put a foot wrong today’s either so no idea what that complaint is all about.
We were always winning that game, personally I thought it was a great test for us, St Mirren were resolute, organised, lucky - everything that makes a team hard to beat. A fine start to the season.

Pedro you've just spouted some verbal diarrhea there.
Scales played very well, he got caught out when playing LB granted, but was solid at CB.
Nygren was frustrating to say the least, along with Yang, neither affective too safe, JF was excellent when he came on.
We dominated the ball, dominated chances, the only thing I can agree on is Idah should've scored, needs to get his positioning right first and foremost, offside too often.
We played excellent just lacked end product which will come.

Quite brutal Pedro but I can't say any of it is wrong.
Where has this Forrest being our best winger patter came from? ? Seen it a few times lately. We're obviously pretty desperate when he's back in the fold but that's the only reason he's back in the fold. Maeda scored more league goals last season than Forrest has managed in the last five seasons.

Yang needs to go.
Offers very little creatively.
Id change formation and play another midfield player rather than have to play Yang.

Scales is ok at centre back, but he is terrible at left back, Idah just isn't a good quality centre forward, and why do you pick on criticism of those two and don't mention people picking on Yang, who I would rather have in my front line than Idah, in fact I would try him in a sort of Kyogo role, as he is much more of a natural finisher than Idah.

I cannot understand why people think it is wrong for 34 year old Forrest to give us a very good 30 mins or so . These are probable the same people who have been away over the top with their criticism for 12 years or more .
I am certainly not surprised that Forrest is giving us a good last half hour when called on . I don’t really like him starting but he seems to know exactly the right thing to do when he comes on. He has always had a touch of skill and good eye in his to find a colleague in a good position.
I am not surprised that a 34 year old has something to offer Celtic, many top teams have even older players doing good jobs for them.
I was surprised at Scales starting as Trusty did well in the matches we saw Pre - season, but today Scales was very tidy and worked well with Tierney on outside and CCV in centre. All 3 and Johnson were fully clued up to what was required of them.

I've often said we should have other formations "ready to go", not just to confuse our opposition but also to line up according to the strengths of the squad.
You have to question any manager who plays exactly the same formation against a huge variety of opposition and won't even change during games when his style is simply not working.
Given our current squad, a 4-1-3-2 formation might be worth trying, with Maeda left striker and Yamada/ Kenny/ Idah the other. Engels or Donovan would make a good DM and three from the remaining midfielders in support of front 2.
As an aside, looks like Nygren is starting to copy the infuriating practice of firing a clearance pass straight back into defence, a la Hatate. This causes us more problems than the opposition ever does!
