I know it's Pantomime season, but I hope our search for a manager doesn't become an extended run - Oh no I don't! Posted previously that the sacking of Brendan Rodgers must have been thought through and alternatives considered but almost three weeks later and one week into the International Break all we seem to hear is speculation.
If MON is willing and able to carry on with Sean Maloney then so be it, but the consensus seems to be, this may not be the case? However, the longer this goes on - added to the injury list growing by the week, - Celtic need reassurance, confident leadership and stability.
The January transfer window (for various reasons) will be practically season-defining and it's imperative for all concerned that we make a positive announcement very soon.

That would require a board who are competent and who are able to plan for the future and have a succession plan. All the things our board are not.
14 Nov 2025 16:37:03
It wasn't thought through, they expected him to see out his deal, his offer of resignation landed in their lap and too good to refuse, they prob envisioned having to search for manager as and when br was ready to say not extending.

I'm at stage that I don't care who gets job or what players do or do not come in jan.
14 Nov 2025 17:13:22
I don't buy that jaa.
Going by Desmond's statement there was major turmoil between Brendan and the board. Why would they then let him continue if he was that toxic and the root cause of all our problems?
The alternative is Desmond was talking pish.

Succession plan? We are not talking 'The king is dead! God save the king', managers don't sit around awaiting the Celtic vacancy. It's mid-season, most are under contract and obligation. Succession plans are not reliable or viable in the volatile world of football management.

Spot on 4 leaf clover, When Weejoe gets something into his head there no convincing him otherwise!
14 Nov 2025 18:44:40
So you know you are getting rid of the manager and you think the board should not be planning who the next manager should be? You don't think it would be prudent to be sounding out suitable replacements before he is given the chop? You sound like you would do well as one of Desmond's board members.
Nevermind the fact that lots of clubs sound out managers before they sack their existing manager and often wait for a replacement to be in place before giving their current manager the chop.

I think Joe is referring to the rubbish show that happened, surely the board would have some sort of contingency plan for these things, I'm not saying managers are sitting waiting to come to our crappy league, where we are the big fish in a very small and ordinary pond. But say they wanted to sack any manager, they must surely have some names on a list they would be willing to speak to.
But the point is surely a company/ brand a size of Celtic FC, there would be people they would be looking at to take over. It's almost like looking for players, you scout your potential new members. So I think Joe's point is valid, our board are very complacent and have been for a long time, not just during Rodgers reign.
{Ed007's Note - Celtic may have - and probably did - start looking for Rodgers successor for the end of the season, him suddenly resigning again would have threw a spanner in the works with that as the whole landscape changed - there's a massive difference in who's available at the end of the season and at the drop of a hat when a manager suddenly resigns.}

Succession plan lol, sounds like current bun talk, what's next battle fever and war chests.
14 Nov 2025 19:14:22
Did Rodgers not resign? The board couldn't possibly have had a succession plan in place unless of course BR told them he would do a runner half way through the season again! The board have gave themselves plenty of time to take their time to appoint the right man by giving MON the reigns.
If O'Neil stays until the end of the season so the board can get the right man then that's what will happen.
14 Nov 2025 19:27:45
Well it looks like it's Nancy and what's that a whole 2 weeks to appoint a new manager.
14 Nov 2025 19:50:40
What I'm not buying is if Rodgers was that toxic and divisive why would the board let him continue for a whole season? It makes no sense.
So the board were either going to replace him or Desmond is talking pish in his statement. Which is it?
14 Nov 2025 20:28:33
The board were planning to replace him at the end of his contract as he wouldn't commit himself to a new contract when he spoken to about a new deal.
14 Nov 2025 20:35:03
I think Mon was well versed weeks of not months before and had agreed to step in if asked.
I'll happily keep the continuity until the end of the season.
14 Nov 2025 20:38:34
Rodgers was sacked the same as ronny was sacked. Is Clement still better manager than brenda?
15 Nov 2025 06:24:09
Joe I see your point, but I think those comments are dd personal view that was festering in background and came more and more to a head, a meeting and subsequent arguments brought it all out and brought out the br resignation, once those feelings made clear br prob couldn't continue, I'd all take mon at face value that he got the call out the blue.
15 Nov 2025 09:03:31
I don't think DD's views fester in the background. This was made abundantly clear in and by his statement.
15 Nov 2025 12:24:59
@ Dc 7591 who is Brenda?
