Our starting 11 look good and a few subs, I’ve no doubt this team can win the league but that doesn’t excuse the board from trying their best to improve the team. Great performance.

We moved the ball well from back to front and very quickly. If we play with that intensity, it will be a good season.
But we still need a quality striker, CB and LB if we want anything from CL games.
2.) 24 Jul 2024 19:36:00
Maedainparadise
As a matter of interest how many goals has Taylor been blamed for in his Champions League campaigns with Celtic.
11 Jul 2024 00:12:01
The problem with Lawal is he’d want McGregor’s place which isn’t happening so another loan is probably sensible. I like Murray, he looked good last preseason too. Kobayashi done well at LB and Turley put himself about well. I’m not ever getting excited about MJ again ( though he was good) and Oh looked sharp. It was a good watch overall.

Wab, , first class entertainment, we were very good going forward and nice to see so many chances taken . Of course there were careless touches and loose passing which led to soft goals conceded, but I am sure our coaches will sort these mistakes out .
I think we might have a better group on the way than recent years . With good coaching and a lot of hard work and discipline, we could have a few stars.

To everyone saying calm down, we’ve had two terrible transfer windows and can’t afford another. We’ve had a lot of time to prepare for this one knowing what we need so it was reasonable for fans to expect some early business done as proof of what was going on behind the scenes. But now, it’s as if we’re just starting to look.
I understand the frustration and need for fans to protest when it looks like we’re resting on our laurels but last season I think fan protests and disputes with the board cost us points. 99% season ticket renewals, we all buy tops and merch, I don’t know how to effectively protest without costing the team points but if we don’t deliver in this window there’ll be problems and we’ll have wasted a big advantage.
1.) 09 Jul 2024 09:48:54
Don't buy merchandise, that doesn't cost the team points.
2.) 09 Jul 2024 11:33:50
what was wrong with January transfer window? Cleared out some deadwood and signed a guy who contributed hugely to winning the league and cup double.
Last summer was awful, a scattergun approach which led to a bloated squad with very little quality added. Clearly we are doing things different this year. I'd like to have seen a GK added already as this was known for a while, but other than that, 3 or 4 players of first team quality will be more than enough - and the first players to move are always the worst, the ones teams want rid of.
3.) 09 Jul 2024 12:18:13
So “2 terrible transfer windows” means that it’s time to have a melt down? You “understand the frustration and need for fans to protest”? This is the 9th day of the transfer window being open the 9th day.
Think there are plenty on here who need to take a hard look at them selfs in the mirror. Celtic didn’t sign players as quickly as I wanted so the toys are getting thrown from the pram. It is embarrassing beyond belief.
What benefit does the panty wetting and flapping have? Does it change a thing? No all that is achieved is more negativity spouted into the world and embarrassing your selfs.
4.) 09 Jul 2024 12:58:04
It's getting worse if we had signed 4 players by now costing about 8m for the lot they'd be moaning.
5.) 09 Jul 2024 13:21:31
We need many first team players, i thought we'd be more active already, gk rb lcb lb dcm winger cf needed in my opinion.
6.) 09 Jul 2024 14:20:10
I agree Mally,
I would feel worse, if we had repeated what we did last season and what Sevco have already done this summer.
7.) 09 Jul 2024 16:15:46
We shouldn't be interested in any club in Scotland buzz bomb, we need many quality players for not being embarrassed in Europe again.
8.) 09 Jul 2024 17:10:41
Here's an idea why don't we go down the Sevco road and mop up all the free transfer galacticos and get rid of them the next window to mop up more bosman galacticos rinse and repeat? Staggers me why we haven't adopted this big club approach to our transfer strategy!
9.) 09 Jul 2024 17:13:23
Off course we should be interested in our nearest rivals because we need to know how to stay ahead of them.
If Sevco spend £25M this summer,
Our Board would be forced to spend £30M.
The Celtic Board got away with one last season and they know it.
Why else were they forced to back down with their GB disagreement.
( 10 points dropped in 10 league games )
Because the Celtic Board were in a panic, due to the horrendous season they were having running our club.
Celtic might have won 12 titles from the last 13 but Celtic are in a position to widen that gap, similar to the pre Gerrard days but so far, our Board are refusing to give the Supporters what we want.
European performances and hopefully results would also improve.
Celtic fans are not being unreasonable,
Spending at least £20M, plus any extra transfer monies brought in from summer transfers, would make a big difference to our team.
10.) 09 Jul 2024 17:33:59
Everybody. Calm Down!
11.) 09 Jul 2024 19:01:32
It doesn't matter how much we spend why are Celtic fans obsessed about this Is it so they think it gives them bragging rights from over the road?
It doesn't matter how much we spend, what matters is we make good appointments of players who make a contribution to the squad.
I will remind people
Barkas £5m
Ajeti £5m and both with their wages would have been the guts of £15m and a complete waste of money
On the other hand
Joe Hart £1m + £15k a week
Arron Mooey Free + 20k a week who both made telling contributions to the club winning 5 of the last 6 trophies
In my opinion for what it is worth is the signing if top level scouting people would have been the most important signings this summer and that hasn't happened, I happened to see something 2 weeks ago where Jay La Favre was listed as the clubs head scout obviously a promotion he has had as he was know as an international scout previously.
If nothing changes then nothing changes, it isn't any more or less than that.
12.) 09 Jul 2024 21:01:54
Celtic have only signed 6 players who have cost at least £6M in our History.
Edouard, Sutton, Hartson, Jullien, CCV and Jota.
Enough said.
13.) 09 Jul 2024 21:42:28
Well not spend fortunes for Europe. Our board know the money comes in from beating the mutants and cl qualifying. Wete a business to them. If we kill of the scum for good were fucked financially. If you think we're getting sky broadcasting us against hearts over a season your mental. Our board are twats but far from stupid. The model goes from our board all the way to the spfl board. I never get why this is so hard to understand? No product. No world wide coverage. No money?
14.) 10 Jul 2024 08:03:16
We are a fickle lot. We got 9 in last window and moaned they were not good enough, this time the club are looking for quality not quantity, so taking a bit longer and the club are getting pelters again.
Maybe they could employ some of the guys on here to do the job for them, as its clearly an easier job than they are making out?
Now the Euros are just about over, I think things will start to move quickly.
Idah and Bernardo were always going to take time and just because there is little about other players doesn't mean nothing is going on.
15.) 10 Jul 2024 18:31:47
If we start winning European matches on a regular basis, surely we will find it more difficult to win domestic matches . Surely that is the reason the perfectly programmed SPL computer manages to have us playing up in the highlands or at other difficult away venues the weekend after European games . The Masons running the SPL are no mugs, they have managed to get Sevco to finish 2 nd nearly every season, and put some pressure on us .
If you look at many clubs playing in Europe and look at their results immediately before Europe, European match and post European matches, they often find it difficult to win all . Winning regularly in Europe could well see points dropped surprisingly either before or after.
22 Jun 2024 07:33:33
I don’t care what we spend as long as we get the right guys, I’ll be surprised if we go above £7m for anyone. We’ll surely put together a better window than the last couple. 5 in and at least that out. The keeper situation should be sorted given the time we’ve had but if the policy is wait and see then it’ll be another shambles.
1.) 22 Jun 2024 08:29:49
I'm the same, the fee is not important. All I want is to have a good team for next year that will dominate domestically and not embarrass us on the European stage.
If we can do that by spending less great. If we need to spend big, then so be it.
2.) 22 Jun 2024 09:31:26
Kyogo was half the price of eduiard. And has a better ratio per game. So it's right player not price.
3.) 22 Jun 2024 13:18:29
We keep, on talking about disastrous windows, in my opinion we don’t have a disastrous window unless it is followed by a season with nothing won and no excuse for blank season. Only 1 of our last 13 season had us winning nothing and that was the season with nobody at matches .
It’s reasonable to call many of the 30 windows in our last 15 windows poor and not good enough but the most important thing that us fans should tie down is that we should have members of the Board meeting with representatives of fans and tieing down the football ambitions of the club . is the club aiming solely for domestic dominance with little or no interest in European success . if so Board must feel quite smug and self satisfied.
Or is club chasing as much European success as possible, regularly beating big clubs from top 5 leagues and elsewhere with domestic success a by-product of our team building whilst striving for European success.
We need to know where the club’s priorities are, can us fans reconcile our ambitions with the Boards .
Most important before constant ranting about Board, is to know we are on one team sheet. Fans I think have the same ambition every season without changing any approach.
4.) 22 Jun 2024 14:16:02
Des if it had not been for an agent calling Brendan Rodgers at the end of the January window we would have lost the league. To me that is clearly a failed transfer window.
5.) 22 Jun 2024 15:50:47
Excuse the daft question weejoe but what phone call to BR was that?
6.) 22 Jun 2024 16:30:23
Joe, as with most clubs Celtic have a team of players performing on the pitch and that team is formed by a team off the pitch who collectively create the playing squad to perform on the pitch . Brendan Rodgers had already told us he had the last word on who should our playing squad .
It could have been any of our scouts who could have recommended Idah as a striker who would be of benefit, and we would still have been told that he wasn’t good enough and our Board would have been accused of signing cheap option and not Sidney Van Hooijdonk who as big Pierre’s must have been far better option, according to many fans .
Joe, in didn’t matter who amongst football management/ recruitment staff was involved as long as the right man was got .
“If it wasn’t for”can change many a bad outcome into a positive out come and if “it wasn’t for”has got disastrous windows into fair windows.
7.) 22 Jun 2024 16:35:50
Weejoe- like many on here, why is it hard to accept we won the league rather than them losing it? Maybe the agent that offered Idah helped a bit but we were seconds away from anither green and whitewash and as usual the serial bottle crashers were never holding their nerves in front of fans. We upped our game when our big players were available and romped home in style. They didn't lose it. We won it.
8.) 22 Jun 2024 21:09:17
Last season’s double was hard won . Starting internally we had long lasting injuries to 3 of our very best players . We unexpectedly loss players on transfer in last summer’s window and January . Even some of our own fans spent most season telling team and manager they were not good enough . BR was a has been and that wasn’t coming from Ibrox fans. Everything we achieved, we as a club had to work hard for it
Rangers2012 with a new manager with the mercurial touch were winning every game and creating world record penalties not conceded and in penalties obtained. Sevco could do everything with so much ease, except beat Celtic . Rangers2012 came, saw, and couldn’t match Celtic.
9.) 22 Jun 2024 23:21:32
@9iar Rodgers received a phonecall from idahs agent right at end of window to inform Brendan that he was available.
If we had not gotten that call I don't think we would have won the league.
Any team who wins the league deserves to win. However, we made it extremely hard for ourselves with two disastrous transfer windows and the banning of fans.
Recruitment is one of the most important aspects in a club and it is vital we don't have a 3rd disaster.
10.) 24 Jun 2024 12:16:01
Weejoe There must have been considerable contact between Celtic people involved in bringing new players and Norwich management, as there was no way the agent happened to get up on morning at end of window and tell Celtic there was a striker ready to head up to Scotland and score a barrow full of goals . i think there must have been prolonged talks preparing for Idah’s coming.
11.) 25 Jun 2024 13:18:10
Lucky for me I have never felt embarrassed by how Celtic performed in Champions League . Don’t get me wrong, I have often been extremely disappointed, especially with the bloody awful display and performance by J Stein and players on our. 2nd European Cup in 1970.
I have been embarrassed by how stupid I was to believe the total lies that K Tierney repeated so often about how wonderful a Celt he was . I believed he was such a wonderful Celt he couldn’t leave us and would retire as a Celt .
I. Was stupid enough to argue that with many Irish Celtic fans and embarrassed my self.
20 Apr 2024 13:30:48
We’re not playing well yet. Yang needs to come off. I thought Palma and Forrest might’ve started. McGregor doesn’t look sharp either. Needs to be better 2nd half.
29 Aug 2024 00:02:19
Top of the league shouldn’t be the extent of our ambition. What about being the best we possibly can be? We’re in a position where we have CL football and money in the bank, this is when to spend it. MOR was going this window, surely it’s not being a drama queen to suggest we should have better prepared for this?
{Ed007's Note - There was no guarantee MOR was leaving, the majority of teams interested in him walked away at the up front fee, you simply can't spend serious money on a replacement for a player you don't know is leaving.
There are thousands of DOF's, managers, agents and players all impatiently waiting on the domino effect to kick in to get deals over the line in the next couple of days - for every club that wants to pull our pants down over fees there is an agent ready to swoop in offering us their players - who knows who could lift the phone to Brendan in the next 48 hours..
23 Aug 2024 22:07:10
Massive week is right. All the best to Matt and please give Brendan what he needs.
23 Aug 2024 19:05:22
We need to sign quality to get better, that shouldn’t be a controversial thing to say, if we don’t sign some players that improve the starting 11 then for the 2nd season in a row we’ll be worse off than we finished the previous one.
If it stays like this Rodgers will surely be seething.
16 Aug 2024 19:14:59
Good stats Buzz??.
14 Aug 2024 22:00:50
Ando, it was a daily record article. If the price is met and O’Riley wants it then it’ll happen, it’s very unlikely we’ll get a ready made replacement but these things happen at Celtic, someone will emerge or we’ll be shopping (and getting frustrated) in the difficult January window.
08 Sep 2024 12:59:59
We paid a bit more than ideal for Idah but it’s done and it’s not his fault. I’m sure he’ll be fine once he’s up and running but I don’t get why fans want to use it as a stick to beat him with. If Kyogo keeps him out the team then that’s because Kyogo is playing brilliant.
07 Sep 2024 09:11:09
The existing European competitions will continue to expand and squeeze the domestic game, the domestic game will have no choice but to adapt as the clubs will choose money. The English league might provide resistance since they have the money, which will slow the whole thing down. Given the new format has just come in, it’ll probably be a while before the next changes come in.
04 Sep 2024 21:21:56
Engels will get his chance and has to earn the place first, it won’t be easy. Hatate when at his best, is dynamite, Bernardo is a player getting better with every game so Engels has a job to permanently dislodge one of them unless we get injuries. I think we can keep 3 guys looking for 2 places happy with rotation and subs.
29 Aug 2024 23:31:53
Plus we still need Scottish guys, McCowan is worth the risk.
29 Aug 2024 23:09:45
Same here MIP, I read the comments and some Sheff Utd comments which made me worry but I think he’ll be good. A CB that wins headers in both boxes, can tackle, looks a unit but quick. I’m optimistic about these signings. Schmeichel and Sinisalo are an upgrade in goal, new LB maybe an upgrade, Trusty looks an upgrade, Engels has big shoes to fill but was BR’s top pick and Idah will improve with game time. We got space for a loan player and McCowan.
I’m not impressed by the board breaking the transfer record twice since both deals are covered by MOR plus the money we got money for Oh, Lawal and probably MJ covers either one so we’ll still make money this window.
