Brian

I’m delighted.

No that’s the end of the poetry for another year I don’t want to end up in the burns unit.

As long as you don't wear your "Tam O'Shanter" if you visit anyone in the unit (God Forbid?) .

I’m absolutely delighted! Really thought he was away in the summer. He is the best CB back we have had since VVD. Brilliant news!

I’ll credit you with not thinking that was to me. I was wondering who would be first to make that comment and enlighten me regarding Burns.

So because somebody doesn’t share my religious beliefs means nothing they say or write is worth listening to or reading?

There’s nothing a Protestant theologian or poet could say or write that might be able to enlighten me?

Are all my likes and dislikes and politics meant to be based on where somebody goes on a Sunday? That sounds like a bigoted philosophy more suited to Ibrox. What’s your thoughts on some of the greatest Irish republicans who were Protestant?

Catholic theology teaches that there are truths in all faiths albeit that we believe the fullness of truth exists most fully within the deposit of faith persevered by the Catholic Church.

There’s nothing in Burns’s writings to suggest any degree of anti-Catholicism indeed he had bigger issues that are well documented with his fellow Presbyterian brethren. It’s generally accepted that freemasonry then was not as intrinsicly anti-Catholic and synonymous with Orangeism in the mid-1700s as it is today where largely they are just different cheeks of the same arse.

‘Archbishop Leo Cushley paid great tribute to Burns when he highlighted the Ayrshire poet’s friendship with Bishop John Geddes (1735–1799) , Coadjutor Vicar Apostolic of the Lowland District of Scotland’.

"The intellect and humanity of the Catholic bishop seemed to prove attractive to Burns, " said Archbishop Cushley "Meanwhile, Geddes was struck by the “uncommon genius” of the Ayrshire poet so much so that he purchased no fewer than five copies of the Edinburgh edition of Burns’ work for the Scottish seminaries on the continent. "

"So, as we raise our glass at dinner this evening, let us learn from Burns -- and from Geddes. May our differences not lead us into needless dispute; May our discussions be robust but always respectful; Indeed, may man to man the world o'er, brithers be – if only for an evening. Happy Burns Night! "

(Archbishop Leo Cushley) .

PS: ma haggis, neeps and tatties were feckn magic.

*news to me.

Just before Celtic made the announcement that CCV had committed to Celtic,
The Evening Times were once again trying their hardest to unsettle our best players, by writing that a late bid was coming in for CCV.

JFP, it was in no way directed at you. I was merely stating a fact about Burns.

26 Jan 2024 22:13:40
Wee Joe

Nae probs!

God Bless! ?.

JFP, as a fellow Celtic supporter and Christian, I'd respectfully say the claims of Christ in the bible trumps by far any traditions of the Catholic church. But beyond that, I enjoyed the spirit of your post. PS, I hope you had a 'nip' with your haggis and neeps ??.

JfP 1888,
I am delighted to. accept you meant no harm and only pick on me with the same ridiculing and abusive talk on a number of occasions for the craic . I have to say anytime I allowed my personal standards to drop and say something derogatory about a fellow Celtic fan and poster, my post never seen the light of day .
Life is too short for the two of us, (in my case yrs over 3 score and ten ) to be trying to insult and annoy fellow Celtic men and I will be very happy to post my points of view without picking at any poster.
