As we all suspected after Kyogo was omitted from the Japan squad, it was unlikely we would sign another striker in this 'window' and this Vata development gives the Board a timely excuse.

Give him a run of games off the bench see how he gets on. No reason why he couldn’t start for any other team in the league if Serie A clubs are chasing him. That’s the reality.

Vata should stay but he hasn’t shown anything yet to suggest he could lead the line. If we want to get better for Europe, Vata isn’t at that level yet. And he might never be, if you aren’t showing signs by now, I doubt he ever will. He will have a career in the game, but not convinced it’s with us.

A club like Celtic shouldn’t rely on a “lucky dip “ . We have the money, we have a recruitment team, maybe, and we should be signing players with at least some experience playing the role we want.
