We are ranked 55th in the European Coefficient.
Sevco are ranked 27th.
It's a sad state of affairs when we are the team struggling to add substantially to the Coefficient when we should be miles ahead of where we are. Usual.

Sevco are now ahead of Celtic in the 10 year Coefficient table.
They have accumulated more points in the last 6 years, than what Celtic have managed in the last 10 years.

The European stats are grim reading but they also require a bit of context. 10 years without a home league win - we've been drawn against both Madrid teams, Bayern, PSG, Man City, Barcelona. However, we've also had some very beatable teams so that shouldn't have gotten to the point it did. The times we reached the last 16 we got drawn against Milan, Juventus and Barcelona - hardly a disgrace losing to any of those over 2 legs. Again though, Copenhagen, Bodo/ Glimt, Valencia and Zenit were all winnable ties and we should have done better. I'd say the biggest failure is not having enough Home CL matches over the 10 year period and not reaching enough knock-out ties in the last 20 years. That's the real failing and if we hadn't been so neglectful with recruitment for qualifiers etc. we probably could have righted those wrongs a long time ago.

They're always in the europa that's the reason. although that's our level as well. but for all that we'll have blown them out the water financially.

This all goes back to their death in 2012 when our club was shackled and repeatedly downsized by Lawell and Co who basked in complacency and abandoned ambition and efficient forward thinking to concentrate on covert and very suspicious multi-party agreements. Shame on them!

Agree with you there too Mally. It's definitely easier to rack up wins in the EL, particularly the groups. Look at our results in 19/ 20. 4 wins, a draw and a loss.

It certainly is easier but us being in the champions league does us no favours. We should at least be dropping down to europa from CL groups to try and force more Coefficient points and potentially having a EL run.

I am absolutley fed up with the board and PL influence on the club. I was certainly a believer that his input had near no influence in his current position but do believe ultimate decisions go through him n Desmond. Desmond will listen to Lawwell before anyone in every capacity.
I’m sick of the current board. They’re old codgers who need to be moved on for this club to progress to the levels we expect. It won’t be long before Celtic Park is emptying again due to complacency. It doesn’t take much and gan groups are already dropping out and lessening the atmosphere that we are all proud to produce.
Big champions league nights at Celtic Park are gone.
Impressive crowds are dwindling and teams no longer fear us as we are a laughing stock. We have had 100s of millions to help progress and all we do is regress. It’s shameful.

Our coefficient should be a lot better than what it is without argument. And I think that the board have to take the flack for that and no other member of staff IMO they deliberately held the team back from progressing to try to make the SPFL more competitive to the detriment of European results for Celtic, Now the atmosphere at European games are flat again partly because of the board not finding solutions for the GB.

Most of their success in Europe in recent years, can be put down to having goalkeepers, first McGregor and now Butland, who have made multiple brilliant saves to keep them in ties, when they were under the cosh, we didn't have the equivalent.

When they got to the Europa final, did they not have to play teams that had dropped down from the CL?, this failure by us to progress hasn't anything to do with one thing, I don't think you can just blame the board, for instance this seasons failure can be laid squarely at Brendan's mismanagement of the team and the squad, in fact I will blame this failure on one thing, and that is Brendan's mismanagement.

Lawwell is blamed for downsizing after 2012 but this is a bit like the chicken and egg situation . Our fans walked away, nearly all the buses from the Demi - Province stopped going over, sections of stands were closed off . So the Board and the fans both told the story that Celtic hadn’t enough domestic competition. The big unknown was if Celtic had bought in better players would lack of real competition mean that the players would develop bad playing habits and team still not compete in Europe . Even in MO’N time RTÉ in Ireland showed many Celtic games and Giles and Dunphy use to drive me mad, by saying Celtic couldn’t compete in Europe, because they could get away mistakes domestically and not in Europe.

Borussia Dortmund dropped down from the CL when Sevco beat them.
Only 10,000 was allowed in their 80,000 Stadium when Sevco beat them.
Dortmund, PSV and Betis are the only 3 European away victories Sevco have had in 21 previous attempts.

I accept the board has miss a trick by not investing when we were at our strongest but when you look back at our last 10 years un CL, how many times were we in good positions in games to get a point or all 3 points and player errors cost us 2 or all the points.
It hasn't all been about the boards neglect or penny pinching as some are suggesting, it has been about lack of concentration by players at important times in games.
The players have been good enough in games but indvidal errors have punished us, sending offs this season in particular.
You cannot lose 1 player, yet alone 2, an expect to challenge at this level.
