Hi Ed007 hows u after Sunday’s game thought on our performance I thought good start which we can build on. Ajeti being mentioned again to have had further talks with Lennon has been reported what do u think would be a more realistic target him or Toney?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - It was a good performance, Rich considering it was the first game of the season and under the crazy circumstances due to Covid - and it was Accies we were up against. Was it my imagination or was McGregor taking more responsibility in midfield and controlling the play more?
I'm not sure what you mean by being a more realistic target, if Lawwell is willing to pay the money for Toney then I think it'll happen but the people jumping the gun saying Ajeti had turned us down were jumping the gun. The guy's on holiday and his present club's season only finished last week, he's entitled to a break and to take his time while deciding his future.}

03 Aug 2020 22:07:46
I thought McGregor controlled the play well at times, definitely took a lot of responsibility from brown.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 22:40:50
The footage I've seen of both would suggest Ajeti would link up with Edouard brilliantly. He looks technically very good whereas Toney is a bit less cultured but definitely knows where the goal is.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 22:50:18
Just the fact the people selling Toney seem determined to get big bucks for him as they should compared to Ajeti as that seems to be set other than the player himself making his mind up. Seems more realistic if any of the two to come in with as u say PL factor possibly taking affect.

Bang on Ed. Calmac was immense and ups the tempo. I think Brown will sit a few games out now and then this season.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Aug 2020 08:08:31
Cal-Mac always makes us play quicker and more incisive, while Broony still gives his all and covers the whole pitch, but I agree it will be very wise to use his experience and drive as-and-when; especially with Soro and Bitton there to give him a break.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2020 08:09:49
I think it's time to move brown out n put the responsibility to mcgregor, ntcham, Christie, rogic.

I like sorro too, his energy is superb. Brown in home games maybe not required as much.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Aug 2020 12:35:12
I think Brown has the strength that mcgregor doesn't have. By that I mean he almost bullies players to get the ball. Mcgregor is more of a footballer. Both vital for us this season though no doubt.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2020 13:57:40
The only responsibility I'd give rogic is to find himself another club.

We can't afford to let Eddy go this transfer window. we'd be giving the G -string and the Govan hordes the biggest leg up they'll ever get. put £5m in Eddys back pocket. and get him to stay for a year and the 10. That way. I'll be able to die laughing at the Rangers.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2020 21:08:16
I think he will extend his contract, the club knows He's becoming the Larsson of this team, the shining star of a good team.

03 Aug 2020 21:53:54
Lol a think he will stay for another season!
JFP did ye know poor Rab Bannen that’s just passed RIP.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 22:13:01
He knows how much he means to the support and he seems content. However, he may want to push himself against tougher opponents and earn what his counterparts get in the bigger leagues - one day.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2020 00:02:51
If club value him at £40m surely he deserves a deal in line with that? He is definitely worth a contract of £40k a week.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Aug 2020 00:11:43
I think champions league will be the decider. Both for our finances and Eddy's ambitions. Genuinely believe Eddy cares about celtic but the 10 isn't his be all and end all. Look at KT for example.

Agree3 Disagree0

04 Aug 2020 08:16:48
Campsiebhoy I did indeed know Rab and was aware he’d died. Did you see then ten bells rang for him before fightnight at the weekend? Very emotional. An absolute legend. RIP.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Aug 2020 11:17:04
Wee Rab gave his all to train and teach hundreds of local kids down the Barn over many many years. Brilliant laugh listening to his vocal encouragement. It was like tourrets outbursts😂😂A wee legend 1 of coatbridges finest men.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2020 11:42:54
He certainly was guys! Not many of his kind left and yes JFP a seen that mate it’s the least they can do! The murals of him are first class if u guys haven’t seen yet.

On the striker positions, Eddy off to a flyer and a goal from Klimala won't hurt his confidence. Nobody wants the big man to go this season (or ever) but Lawell has shown in the past that cash is king, which is why I can't help but think the calibre of striker we bring in could be crucial.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2020 21:59:55
See this Lawwell has shown cash is king nonsense. Not one player has been sold that didn't want to go. Its the players who have shown cash is king.

03 Aug 2020 17:19:53
Surely Celtic have nothing "Toulouse" by selling Bayo.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2020 18:06:37
I agree if we can recover some of the fee we paid it’s a no brainer. Also, it genuinely looks like Celtic are trying to upgrade the striker position which is great news. It looks like having a Head of recruitment is working. The players we have been linked with recently have all been of higher quality than before. I was a bit gutted the Shon Weissman link went away, Ajeti seems uninterested, Toney looks like the one we’ll have to go for. Allegedly we have placed a second bid for Toney tonight. In reality is he a quality player or is he only linked because of Strachan and they’re taking a chance on him? Genuinely don’t know but if anyone could shed anymore light on him that would be great.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 19:57:56
He was highly rated when he was younger but didn't do much at Newcastle he has played well in league 1 is always a risk spending big money on a player but I think he will do well up here mate strong fast and scores goals just hope if we get him we won't be selling eddy think together they would do some damage.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 21:08:20
I know people on this site don't like home grown talent. With Bayo looking like leaving I personally would like to see someone a bit different to Griffiths and Kilmala.
There are very few Dembele's and Awesomes out there but watching Ross County tonight Ireally like Ross Stewart 6'3" strong fast. I know he has not scored a lot but County play him as a left winger and he dos not get the service he would get at Celtic Park. Hard worker and very fit looks a player to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 21:11:59
When Dembele and Edouard played together briefly it was frightening.
A strong front man to partner him could bring out the best in Eddie.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 23:16:16
Why we wanting strikers. Eddy still there. Klamila doing great so far with limited time Griff still there. can't we give klamila and our youths a run at it.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2020 09:56:46
If the manager wants another striker then yes. We need a striker. Bayo looks to be leaving wether it be on loan or on a permanent. We can’t rely on Griff and Klimala quite yet so that leaves us with Eddy. If he leaves we have to rely on Griff who I believe will do a Job this season and Klimala who is shaping up to be the player we wanted. He could be a true steal.

Lennon is known for having plenty striking options and it looks like the 5 back formations are going to be more common. This opens up opportunity to play 2 strikers a lot of the time. This gives you more depth in tactics as well.

03 Aug 2020 23:06:09
Like and love who you wish man it's a groovy free world these days but boli appears to have found the shirt to heavy a burden. Efe just couldn't focus long enough to do the job required of him.

Let's not get carried away with yesterdays result as it was Hamilton after all but that being said some of the general play and build up to the goals was terrific. The only disappointing point I saw was our centre backs continually being beaten on high balls.

Definitely looks like we need a dominant centre half in the Bobo mould.
I thought Hamilton have to be applauded by playing their young players through either design or default its a brave decision.

lawman45 totally agree. although i was thrilled to bits with the result i fear we will get mugged in europe with our defense as it stands. but i am optimistic and feel we will strengthen in those areas. hail hail.

Good performance considering first game back.
A wee question came up in the pub was if we had to sell 2 players of value who would it be and why?

My choice would be Ntcham and Ayer.
Reason being is i think we can get better than Ayer and Ntcham while good is not a certain starter.

So 15m each or thereabouts gives us 25-30m added to probably we could have 10m to spend gives us 35-40m to spend on improving CH position and rest of team/ squad.

In a season where we have to be ruthless i would be more than happy with that as i think the starting 11 would be stronger.

03 Aug 2020 17:24:29
Just Rogic.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 17:51:34
how much would a replacement for Ajer cost? We found a bargain in Jullien for £7 Mill, so if another similar bargain isn't available then we'll be looking at £10-15 Mill? Kind of defeats the purpose of selling him. Ntcham can go in my opinion. He's probably the most technically gifted player we have but his attitude stinks.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 22:02:47
his attitude stinks? What a load of nonsense. Everyone that works with him says his attitude in great. Where do celtic fans get this pish?

Agree0 Disagree0

We seem in the last year to be better at choosing targets.
Hammond is a step up from Congerton.
Everyone we are currently being touted with looks to have some pedigree.

If I can remember correctly it was Shaun Maloney who recommended Celtic sign the Holy Bolongoli and it was Henrik who recommended we sign Benyu.

Think we should stop listening to the experts and continue with our tried and tested finger in the air policy when it comes to picking players.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2020 12:45:43
Don't mind putting my finger in the air and saying I got it wrong - it was Mo Bangura who Henrik recommended. Still, the players are still relevant in any case.

03 Aug 2020 12:45:59
I'm sure Henrik also recommended Bangura.

Talk of Croatian LB, surely Boli would be sold to cover the fee, talk of Boyle at 250k, that's cheap for a squad player and probably one that would fit into the team well when called upon, would seriously look at Itter as striking option, but im concerned about the CB position, Ajer and Julien both struggle in the air against strong physical players, few crosses from last match scared the rubbish out of me, so we need a solid CB to challenge and rotate with those two, things are looking promising, keep the young lads involved and we will have a right good season.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 13:16:16
Benyu played on loan with Helsingborgs - that's where Henrik came into it with him. Easy mistake to make.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 14:11:06
I wouldn’t mind Boyle to help strengthen the squad.

Agree3 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 14:33:41
Boyle can score in the SPL but would he settle for squad status and far less games than he will get at Hibs (apart from better money? ) .
I also agree, although Jullien and Ajer are great footballers, we need a big Bobo type stopper to handle bustling, bullying target men.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 14:39:27
Shved out and Boyle in. He would be a good squad player and NL likes him. Bayo out on loan and another striker brought in would be ideal. Next would be Bolongoli out on loan and a new LB and a Centre Half .

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 14:55:41
Fletcher and Boyle would be solid squad players and wouldn't cost the earth. For a CB I'd look at a once marquee player - at the tail-end of his carreer to give guile and nous to the back four.

Any chance we've got an option to buy clause in Elyounoussi's loan deal?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2020 11:41:59
I think that the possibility of Toney being at the club could be a good chance this week.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2020 12:12:33
Can’t see offering what the chuckle brothers at Peterborough want tbh. still sceltical about our actual interest in the player. heard a few weeks ago he was going to Brentford. and if they seal the golden ticket tomorrow against Fulham then I would expect him to go there.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 13:44:45
if they don't go up I would expect Watkins to leave Brentford for a prem team and then Brentford to replace him with Toney.

Was just looking at our bench from yesterday and realised it cost around 20 million to assemble.

@Kev83 take it we never bought it from IKEA then this bench lol.

A cb another forward especially if bayo goes out on loan toney could be a great signing to compete with eddy and another wide player as we only really have moi and Forrest.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2020 12:27:07
I'd class frimpong as a winger as well. Him and forrest competing for that position if Elhamed can stay fit or play as a cb if we go 3 at the back.
Looking at our bench yesterday showed how strong our squad is.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 13:01:17
He needs to stay fit but ad still like a cb a lb get rid of boli who's not going to do.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2020 08:51:56
I've always advocated Celtic wide players getting to the bye-line and we saw wee Frimpong, Jamesie Forrrest and Gregg Taylor doing it to great effect, with excellent crosses, numerous chances and great goals.
We also saw the best of Klimala, who scored an excellent goal from a well timed run through the middle.
When you add these strengths to the goals, Forrest, Griffiths, Christie, Ntcham, Cal-Mac and both centre backs can chip-in with, we certainly have a lot to appreciate as an attacking force.
