For rosenborg, KT must slot in at CB with Ajer, Gamboa LB, Ralston RB, we are asking for trouble not buying defenders!

Believable1 Unbelievable5

19 Jul 2018 00:02:13
You missed out Compper and Hendry.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Jul 2018 00:47:28
Get boyata back, couldn't care less if he was at the world cup, he's our player and is needed for a massive champions league qualifier.

Agree1 Disagree2

19 Jul 2018 03:41:37
Oh, That's the panic setting in.
We will have Boyata and Lustig back before next week.

Agree0 Disagree2

19 Jul 2018 07:24:53
Not buying defenders? We have 5 CBs 6 if you want to include Bitton. Lustig can also play in that position.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2018 08:36:42
To be fair at this rate we’ll be lucky if Compper plays 90 minutes this season. What a signing that was🧐.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2018 09:06:14
Brendan’s three defensive signings have been a total waste of money. None of them are good enough to help us move on. All the transfer dithering has put us in a position we shouldn’t be in. Ralston next week gives me the fear. Ralston and Hendry and Gamboa on the park at the same time? Are people mental?

Do we want to lose?

Get your finger out Lawell and get us the RB. And CV’s we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2018 10:18:16
Boyata and lustig has to have his mandatory holiday dasa77 that's the law.
Ralston Hendry ajer Tierney will do fine.

Good to get bit of 10 men practice against SPFL level opponents tonight. Valuable run out, shame about MD fingers crossed nothing lengthy or too serious.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

18 Jul 2018 23:00:37
I hope DM is alright tight hamstring hope it's just that and not anything worse.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

18 Jul 2018 23:18:31
Really hope I’m wrong on this but I fear it’s more than a tight hamstring. He sat in the turf waiting for the physio and the look on his face when the physio came on and as he left the field was not good. I hope the moose is not going to be plagued with this injury again.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 22:32:21
The 1 player that I think could change our season and I can't believe I writing this is James Forrest, that boy has come on leaps and bounds.

He is a game changer now and has developed immensely last season and what i've seen already, he is now a confident player.

The best thing is if we had bought him last season for 6m let's say we would be raving about this guy so let's now forget his early years and enjoy his football now.

Prob the best compliment I can pay him is he reminds me of Paul Lambert (not in style) but in the fact that Lambert went away and came back a different player and tho Forrest not been anywhere he caertainly wasn't at the races for a while.

RE Paulo Lamberto as I used to call him, I give u Hames Forrestino lol.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

18 Jul 2018 22:42:06
I've supported Forrest from day one always loved him but in no way can you compare Lambert and Forrest two totally different players.

Agree2 Disagree1

18 Jul 2018 23:10:08
Ofcourse their 2 totally different players lol I was meaning their transformation maybe I never worded it right.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2018 00:18:02
A very good entertaining performance by the 10 men for over 80 mins tonight .
Hard to pick out our star performer tonight . Forrest was really fantastic, his goal was unbelievable, his pace from own penalty area until he got the ball entering the other and controlled finish made a superb goal at any level . Hendry and Ajer at the back were superb . K T played well but such was the excellence around him he didn't stand out like in other games . Ntcham is becoming a new player helped I think by his fellow French players . The twin strike force is improving every game . They are so powerful and link well together as well as linking up with our other attacking players .
McGregor was superb again, he seems to play in so many attackers, in the right place to re start attacks that are breaking down .
The only sad bit was the sending off of Jozo . A strict ref was always likely to issue red for the high but really not dangerous tackle . Ref proved himself far from strict for nearly all the match except when booking Ajer .
He gave us a very soft penalty, I would be happy not to see him ref a Celtic game again.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Jul 2018 07:18:06
The ref was a joke it was never a red card and it was never a penalty. He let there players off with murder. If that's the standard of ref In Romania there refs are way worse than ours. Can we appeal the red card.

19 Jul 2018 14:23:56
Thought the wee man dropped into the right back position with ease tonight, and didn’t look out of place.

18 Jul 2018 22:04:23
With defenders missing and Simunovic suspended I was thinking during the game we should get Ralston on for some game time. Similarly with EK being back up for Brown (the protector of the back 4) get Kouassi some time on the pitch. Loads of attacking midfield and forward options but things looking more limited at the back. Just my opinion and not a criticism.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Jul 2018 22:30:46
if ralston is the plan br would not want to show his hand to early.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 22:39:25
Ralston may or may not be the plan but he was the only defender on the bench, so I don't think it would be giving anything away.
I missed the first 15 minutes and when I saw us ahead on night and so far ahead on the tie it was my first thought ie get Ralston involved in competitive game.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2018 07:27:32
He was the only defender on the bench because Compper is injured.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2018 14:22:02
It’s like Groundhog Day every single summer by the way! Trying to scrape through these qualifiers with a patched up defence yet again! No real experience going into our most important games of the season! It actually baffles me that the first thing Brendan didn’t do was buy an experienced solid centre half this summer! Really hope it doesn’t come back to bite us on the arse this year!

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 21:38:46
Well done the night bhoys, on to round 2 we go!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

18 Jul 2018 20:44:11
I Want to believe we will beat Rosenborg, but Nordic teams give me the fear! Molde, Malmo, quietly confident though.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

18 Jul 2018 22:27:29
Don't think they have as much quality as us, but they may be fitter, stronger and definitely more of a threat than tonight's opponents.
The Norwegian season runs from March to November and so far they have played 16 games and are in second place, however, I have been very pleased with our early displays and most of the squad look sharp and hungry and most of this squad have been here before.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 22:29:26
Would have loved vular in the next round but they only just lost 3 2 over 2 legs and we have a young vibrant team let's show Rosenberg who's boss hh.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 23:15:20
We beat them last year narrowly with James Forrest up front, should be fine with Edouard and Dembele playing.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2018 09:22:25
We are much better than Rosenborg, the problem is the weakest part of our team is even weaker now with Jozo out. That’s my only worry.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2018 09:27:13
Forrest was brilliant last night. It was never about his ability, it’s about consistently playing to the level he can hit that is the problem with him.

We need to score a few goals and more importantly nit concede at home. That just became harder through inactivity in the transfer market,

They looked fabulous at times last night. I would seriously consider asking Boyata and Lustig to come back early. We need them.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 20:27:19
So lads, looks like its Rosenborg next round. This does worry me, however i still have faith, but will be tough.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Valur have just scored, Brendan making it 2-2 and Valur through on away goals.}

18 Jul 2018 20:31:14
WE will take care of either of them, have faith! 🍀HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 20:33:37
Big Shuggy our centre half come centre forward in the mid 70s played for Valur before coming to paradise.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I didn't know that (clap) good knowledge there.}

18 Jul 2018 20:38:04
Rosenberg winning 3-1.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 20:42:20
We beat Valur 9-0 on agg 1975 and Big Shuggy was playing for us against his old team. Rosenborg have scored. Unlucky Valur, good memories though.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 22:28:33
Remember reading a piece about his father (shuggy) being a war criminal accused by the Wiesenthal (I think was the group) war crimes investigators . his father was a high ranking policeman in estonia if memory serves me . anyway his father died before investigation complete and I can't remember if there was any posthumous guilty verdict . if anybody can remember who done the piece or outcome could you post it . funny how big shuggys name mention sparks a memory I'd completely forgotten. good big versatile player for us remember the game at ibrox late 70s the big man was running amok against them and had put us 2 _0 up at ht. then for some mad reason big jock put him back into central defence and we lost 3-2.Is he still in good health as I'm recalling as I write this he had a life threatening brain haemorrhage some years back.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2018 00:17:29
Was at that game. Big Shug was playing centre forward in first half. Tommy Burns lashing crosses in for the big man to score twice. The people turned it round in second half and Big Shuggy was brought back in defence. Got beat 3–2 sadly.

As much as i love McGregor stevie, i'd like kouassi to get a run out. he's a star in the making in my eyes.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

18 Jul 2018 17:09:05
I like Kuoassi, but I think he is far more defensive than McGregor, who in turn presents more attacking danger than Kuoassi .
We have the correct balance I think, with Brown Ntcham/ Kouassi and McGregor.

Agree3 Disagree1

18 Jul 2018 17:55:44
Brendan95 kouassi isn't going to do McGregors job. If your dropping a player for him it has to be brown.

My team today. 352 Bain. Simu. Ajer. KT. Forrest. Ntcham. Brown. EK. Sinclair. Dembele. Eddy. Just what i'd play.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

18 Jul 2018 15:05:45
No McGregor 🤔.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 16:53:50
McGregor for me is a must, really hope he kicks on from last season and I’m glad to admit I was wrong about him a few seasons back.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 16:54:45
My team would be:

Gordon

Gamboa Hendry Jozo

Forrest Brown Ntcham Tierney

McGregor

Edouard Dembele

I know Gamboa is just back but he's played more competitive football in the off season so should be fit enough for this game.

I also think that the two up top should be played as often as possible during the build up to the regular season to see if it's a fruitful endeavour.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 18:03:48
I would like to see Morgan start

Bain

Hendry
Ajer
Jozo

Morgan
Brown
Ntcham
Kouassi
Sinclair

Edouard
Dembele.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 17:57:06
Ajer is our best defender and you'd drop him for gamboa?

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 18:47:58
A game like this is the perfect test for Hendry to show he can handle the pressure playing as the main ch.

I absolutely agree that Ajer is top notch, but we know that already.

Players need game time to develop and gain confidence, so I would for this game, yeah.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Hendry's playing at RB tonight.}

18 Jul 2018 19:12:12

{Ed007's Note - (yes)

18 Jul 2018 23:42:35
Read here a fair bit and respect people's opinions. but some on here are picking players that haven't been used in recent months maybe more. and to be fair some players who have not had the chance. to me that to do with the quality that's expected at our club. I see McGregor, forrest, Tierney, even young johnstone being out of some people's selections. trying to figure things out cause we looked as if we had a man extra tonight at points. sorry for the rant . just my view.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 14:35:52
So where would alashkert finish in our league? i reckon well into the top six.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Behind Aberdeen and Hibs so fighting for 4th place with Kilmarnock.}

18 Jul 2018 16:34:26

Fighting sevco to avoid relegation play off spot.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 13:37:30
You KNEW one of my first posts would involve a bet lol
Celtic and Rosenburg are impossible to bet outright something like 1/ 20 Celtic and 1/ 7 Rosenburg.
So try the handicap
Rosenburg -1 evens
Celtic -2 4/ 5
Not great odds but if they both come up you will more than double your money.
Add Dundalk 1/ 2 for a wee treble ( apparently us Celtic fans love Trebles lol)

Good to hear.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 12:10:52
I wish Celtic would get the finger out and start buying in quality players, getting fed up of Brendan saying he wants players in. so do it get them in. if we want players in from England you best be quick. there transfer window for ins and outs finishes 9th August. we have more to lose this year with the champs league money going up.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - English clubs can still sell and loan players to clubs in other countries after the 9th of August.}

18 Jul 2018 12:43:30
FFSS sake what do you want? Signing someone to say look we have signed someone or sign the right player? We are a hard sell to battle ready players, unless there is guaranteed CL games, as money talks.

We have a core good group, and good ages as well, you need to be aware of that, just pulling in a shirt filler won't hack it.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 13:19:13
It has been getting harder and harder to do quick business in these windows as clubs try to exploit the inflated market with ridiculous prices and players can hold-out until the last minute to get the best offer/ deal; not to mention their agents playing the field and the World Cup to complicate matters even more.
There was no doubt BR gave his shopping list to the board in plenty time, so all we can do is wait.
The signing of Edouarde was brisk business and excellent news, so we know the club are showing ambition and hope they will follow it up with a couple more quality acquisitions.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 14:03:03
Calm down love its all in hand. Two seasons of winning every domestic trophy says we are doing things right! Its not just a case of finding your target. The players you target need to:

1. Want to come and play for the mighty Celtic in SPFL
2. Be willing to fight for a place and not expect it
3. Bring something we don't already have
4. Understand what it means to have the honour of wearing the hoops
5. Be able to cope with the expectations and pressures
6. Be affordable in wages and transfer fee
7. Fit in

Im sure there are many many other factors not listed but remember its not just a case of picking a player and then he signs. Give the board and BR a break they just broke the club record to sign a player. HH.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 15:39:32
Kwaj got to agree - good post.

It’s ok picking a player but Scotland has never been that attractive - even less so now due to financial constraints.

It’s also difficult to guarantee more than 6 big games a season as the qualifiers have been made more difficult for our teams to qualify then the pots are weighted in favour of the big leagues.

Painful to say but if the player doesn’t fall in love with the club we will have good prospects for 2-3 years and they move on. Hard to get even harder to keep.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2018 19:39:17

Slowly getting the feeling that we are going to sign McGinn and that's our lot. In that event, we still need to replace Paddy. We need to strengthen in a number of areas. It seems like nothing is being done about it. I understand we are very quiet when it comes to tranfers and rumours but. There is literally nothing showing, anywhere. Rodgers comments also make me feel like that our budget is spent and that's our lot.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

18 Jul 2018 11:13:14
Replace Paddy? He missed most of last season and we coped, we now have Morgan and Christie vying for places plus Mickey Johnstone back from injury and maybe getting some game time.
We need other postions covered before a replacement for Paddy.

Agree3 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 11:52:52
Rb for starters to give big mik a wee rest other than that we're not too bad.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 12:03:05
Green Oak, go tell our manager that then he’s the one who said it.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 12:11:29
Hopefully that’s not the case as br has already said he wants a few players with a bit more class to improve us. I personally agree with him that as long as we get them in I don’t mind when . Although we won the treble last year we definitely need another two or three quality players to push us on. We were murdered in some euro games last season and previous years so if we want to improve there we need to improve the playing squad. I appreciate we aren’t going to win it but I’d like to watch us without covering my eyes waiting for goals 3-4-5 go in against us (assuming we qualify)

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 12:31:06
Some good points Quinn. Realistically players come in and need time to settle before playing games etc. That’s where we might faulter when pushing for qualification. We need it this year more than ever. I watched Legia Warsaw last night and likes the look of there Centre Back Remy! Was composed on the ball but that was one game.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 12:49:20
Evolution works at a faster pace than we do when signing players. It is as if we don’t have a list of targets and go from day to day. For if we do have a list it must be full of players that wouldn’t entertain us. Why have a list of players that we can’t afford or won’t come?

Same crap every single year.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 12:54:05
6 isn’t good either. Our defence isn’t up to it clearly. We lost the most goals in the tournament which shows we need improving. I won’t hold my breath though. We make it to the group stages with the same defence than don’t be surprised if we get our arse handed to us again.

Rogers has to know that. Everybody else does.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 13:48:18
@Magicpole, unfortunately football today is a different game from what it was 6 or 7 years ago due to finances . There will be many clubs on our budget that will get there arses handed to them in the CL by the super rich clubs. When trying to compete against sides that have one player costing more than our entire squad it becomes a near impossible task. Even if we spent 15 million on a couple of centre halfs it guarantees nothing at that level. Our only hope is to pick up a couple of gems but that isn't easy. I'm very comfortable with the way we do our business. We must be one of the best run clubs in Europe.

18 Jul 2018 14:05:32
Good post . Stevie.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 17:19:58
We don't go about it the right way . I heard this morning Liverpool had offered Roma ( I think ) £62 m for their keeper . The asking price was £66 m .
I heard this afternoon A price had been agreed not splitting the difference but £67m

I can imagine P L agreeing £5 m for McGinn when they are looking for £4 m .
In the EPL they really have money to throw round them.

18 Jul 2018 19:57:03
I disagree Green Oak. We need a right winger cos Forrest just isn't good enough.

He will stay even if we sign John. They are different types if player.

We need to sell Biton can't see him getting hardly any game time or even making the matchday squads. If we sign McGinn it'd be a good pairing to have him and Kouassi playing when we need to rest Broony/ Ntcham for the big games.
