Celtic have tonight appointed Mark Lawell as Head of First Team Scouting and recruitment. Lawell had previously worked with Ange as part of the City group during his time at Yokohama Marinos.

John Hughes today being linked with a return to Celtic to take charge of the colts team. Could be a fantastic appointment and great for the development of the younger players. And if he is a success it wouldn't surprise me to see him get the managers job in the future.

Dont know if there's any truth in it but I've been told we want to bring in Toney and Ajeti with Bayo moving out on loan or permanent and Klimala going to Aberdeen on loan for the season.

Find it strange to loan out Klimala, when he is just settling into the club and team-mates, plus getting game-time with goal (s) .
I do appreciate that if you include Griff, to the above equation then we would have too many to accommodate unless Eddy is leaving?
Personally, I would expect us to settle for Ajeti on loan, keep Eddy on an incentive, for one more season. With so much to play for and five substitutes per game, we can comfortably have four strikers.
The cash saved on Toney can go towards the urgent defensive needs?

Ed please excuse my ignorance but exactly how to transfer deals work? The Wolfsberger president has come out publicly and said we have made a bid for Weismann, but if this was the case wouldn't it either be rejected or accepted. I appreciate that we may not have even made a bid and their president is trying to drum up interest.
{Ed002's Note - The scouting staff will prepare reports on players and provide an idea about price; coaches will look at the players but have no idea about price; they will go to a Director of Football (or perhaps a mix of the finance director and others responsible for the monies) and say we would like this player and we think he will cost £x. Checking against available budgets, the club will likely approach his agent to ask if the player might be interested in the move and a broad idea about the package the player would want, and any broad idea about what the club would want - and what terms they may be open to (cash up front, spread over a year etc.). This sits inside the overall transfer process which looks something like this:
The same way as any other club do. The process should be along the lines of: Clubs will typically informally ask an agent (a) if the player is going to be available, and (b) would the player consider a move to the club. There may be some broad discussion on the sort of deal that would be offered but no more than that. If the answer is yes, it is then necessary for the club to approach the player's club to ask if they would be willing to sell and if they would grant permission to speak to a player's agent formally to negotiate about a transfer and even to the player about actually making a move. This will typically involve the showing of serious interest (perhaps through an offer) or actually agreeing a fee and responsibility for any significant costs (agents fees etc.). Once this has happened the club will be able to speak formally to the player's agent and perhaps the player himself to look at the package that will be involved. Many players are looked at and discussed at a high-level with agents and clubs; a subset of those have an offer placed; a subset of those involve discussions with the player's club; a subset of those involve discussions over terms, and; a subset of those go ahead.
Agents will often try and get more specific details of wages and other financials before they should - but most clubs are happy to follow this process. Players will often talk to other players about moves but, whilst wrong, is tolerated as it would be impossible to manage.
Alternatively, a selling club may ask an agent to find a new club for a player and he will talk directly to potential selling sides about the fee, personal terms and interest.
The rest of the time agents will be on fishing trips trying to find interest in their players.
In terms of what happens when the negotiations take place, broad agreement (player available and open to discussions, understanding of the price) will already have been reached. The clubs will meet to discuss the details of the transfer fee, other costs associated with the move and the structure of the payments and any additional fees (e.g another €5M for winning the Champions League etc.) but this does not take a "few days".}

On that note Ed what is likely to happen with the transfer window? I’m sure it normally opens round about 1st July. Can that still happen with all the uncertainty surrounding the leagues or is it likely to be delayed until decisions have been made on how and when the football season finishes.
{Ed007's Note - I've no idea what they're going to do mate and it's one of the most important things that needs to be settled pretty soon - probably even before decisions regarding leagues or matches being played - along with expiring contracts, loan deals ending, sponsorship deals.
As things stand come June 30th we'll only have Scott Bain as a first team GK.}

Morning lads
I had a ticket sorted for the Real Madrid game through a guy I know who's son has a season ticket but is currently on a scholarship in the States. Anyway he messaged me this morning to say his son is now flying home from Kentucky in order to go to the game meaning I no longer have a ticket
Looking for the power of the Celtic Rumours family to help me out. If anyone hears or knows someone with a spare ticket or who can't make the game for whatever reason please give me a shout. Happy to pay over the odds if necessary

All the best to big Chris Jullien. Who knows how his Celtic career could have panned out if not for that horrendous injury. Two special moments that will live with me. Jullien has been getting a bit of stick, unfairly in my opinion. Let's remember that he got injured making a goal line clearance and that was what ended his Celtic career. Other players may have pulled out but he didn't. Good luck to him at Montpellier. HH.

So Ange has come out and said he is not looking to sign a physical midfielder as this is not the way he wants to play the game.

The other thing this tells me is the media really have no clue regarding our transfer targets as they have linked us to 5 or 6 physical type midfielders recently because they believed this is what we were missing

Just goes to show Mark the media have little insight into our transfer dealings. Two in this week by the looks of things. I’m hoping one is a centre half And I’d imagine the other will be a Midfielder even if it’s not to be an enforcer type.

ED with u thinking about an ST coming in is that cause u think we need one? I would like to think that as a club of celtic size surely we have someone in the ranks coming through as an ST that could do a job if our first team were to get on a bad run or worse.

So if u were to looking for another CB what would u be looking out for a young up and coming but better than Welsh or an experienced say 25 year old to challenge the first two stand outs?

I would prefer a class CB to partner Ccv and let Sterfelt fight to get back in. I think we need better than him especially in the CL. Too much at stake to rely on Sterfelt imo. Great back up and all that but we need better on the ball coming out of defence.

Lewis Ferguson is an absolute no brainer. His physicality work rate and goal threat would be ideal in our midfield. I find it strange we are being linked with the lad Connor Barron from Aberdeen when Ferguson is streets ahead of him.

I don’t know if the rumour has any substance at all but Gudmondsson was Alkmaar’s stand out player in the first leg. Played in the attacking midfield role and looked very decent.

I might be wrong but I’m not convinced the lad fancies a move to us. Looks like his preferred option was Werder Bremen but they have now signed an alternative striker. I reckon he’s going to wait and see who else makes a move for him before the window closes. Hopefully we have alternative options that we are talking to.

Nisbet would be a fantastic addition to the squad. The guy is a prolific goalscorer. There’s a certain snobbery amongst our support because the lad plays in the SPL. Look at the chances we create compared to Hibs. The boy would score a barrow load for us. I’ve said for almost 3 seasons I’d take him in a minute.

Interesting as we play Rennes in Portugal at the weekend. Maybe he’ll turn up and make his decision. Media reports are saying he’s rules out a move to Turkey and France with Fenerbache and Rennes interested. Could be the media’s attempt to set us up for a fall.

Buzz GG actually picked up a calf knock in a tackle just before he scored his second goal. He was actually hobbling into the box so much so it meant his late arrival into the box was perfect for Abada’s cut back ??.
