John Hughes today being linked with a return to Celtic to take charge of the colts team. Could be a fantastic appointment and great for the development of the younger players. And if he is a success it wouldn't surprise me to see him get the managers job in the future.

I'd have him I'm as assistant manager or first team coach to help the ozzie guy.

05 Aug 2020 15:29:06
Dont know if there's any truth in it but I've been told we want to bring in Toney and Ajeti with Bayo moving out on loan or permanent and Klimala going to Aberdeen on loan for the season.

Ice Man

1.) 05 Aug 2020 17:37:24
I don't see that unless eduarde is off.

2.) 05 Aug 2020 19:18:46
Klimala is going nowhere.

3.) 05 Aug 2020 19:28:29
Find it strange to loan out Klimala, when he is just settling into the club and team-mates, plus getting game-time with goal (s) .
I do appreciate that if you include Griff, to the above equation then we would have too many to accommodate unless Eddy is leaving?
Personally, I would expect us to settle for Ajeti on loan, keep Eddy on an incentive, for one more season. With so much to play for and five substitutes per game, we can comfortably have four strikers.
The cash saved on Toney can go towards the urgent defensive needs?

4.) 06 Aug 2020 15:24:23
Seen somewhere the ajeti deal is loan with perm option if he gets a certain amount of games this season.

Ed please excuse my ignorance but exactly how to transfer deals work? The Wolfsberger president has come out publicly and said we have made a bid for Weismann, but if this was the case wouldn't it either be rejected or accepted. I appreciate that we may not have even made a bid and their president is trying to drum up interest.

{Ed002's Note - The scouting staff will prepare reports on players and provide an idea about price; coaches will look at the players but have no idea about price; they will go to a Director of Football (or perhaps a mix of the finance director and others responsible for the monies) and say we would like this player and we think he will cost £x. Checking against available budgets, the club will likely approach his agent to ask if the player might be interested in the move and a broad idea about the package the player would want, and any broad idea about what the club would want - and what terms they may be open to (cash up front, spread over a year etc.). This sits inside the overall transfer process which looks something like this:

The same way as any other club do. The process should be along the lines of: Clubs will typically informally ask an agent (a) if the player is going to be available, and (b) would the player consider a move to the club. There may be some broad discussion on the sort of deal that would be offered but no more than that. If the answer is yes, it is then necessary for the club to approach the player's club to ask if they would be willing to sell and if they would grant permission to speak to a player's agent formally to negotiate about a transfer and even to the player about actually making a move. This will typically involve the showing of serious interest (perhaps through an offer) or actually agreeing a fee and responsibility for any significant costs (agents fees etc.). Once this has happened the club will be able to speak formally to the player's agent and perhaps the player himself to look at the package that will be involved. Many players are looked at and discussed at a high-level with agents and clubs; a subset of those have an offer placed; a subset of those involve discussions with the player's club; a subset of those involve discussions over terms, and; a subset of those go ahead.

Agents will often try and get more specific details of wages and other financials before they should - but most clubs are happy to follow this process. Players will often talk to other players about moves but, whilst wrong, is tolerated as it would be impossible to manage.

Alternatively, a selling club may ask an agent to find a new club for a player and he will talk directly to potential selling sides about the fee, personal terms and interest.

The rest of the time agents will be on fishing trips trying to find interest in their players.

In terms of what happens when the negotiations take place, broad agreement (player available and open to discussions, understanding of the price) will already have been reached. The clubs will meet to discuss the details of the transfer fee, other costs associated with the move and the structure of the payments and any additional fees (e.g another €5M for winning the Champions League etc.) but this does not take a "few days".}

1.) 13 Jul 2020 11:27:23
Thanks for the insight. It’s a complicated game, and shows why leaving it close to deadline is asking for trouble.

{Ed002's Note - It gets more difficult Davie.}

2.) 13 Jul 2020 13:11:09
actually all is needed is honesty from clubs when i was young only corrupt sport was boxing ans maybe cycling and horse racing now all sport is corrupt.

3.) 13 Jul 2020 14:56:40
Intresting read that Ed. Must be a nightmare to get deals done.

4.) 13 Jul 2020 18:21:38
Ed, is there a possibility we may even have players signed and just waiting for the window to open to announce them?

{Ed007's Note - It's possible but I doubt they would do that.}

19 Apr 2020 17:13:15
Ed is there any truth in the Roberts bid or is it online nonsense?

Ice Man

{Ed007's Note - There's not been any bid made but there might be in the future. I'd imagine that there won't be much happening anywhere transfer wise while thing are so uncertain regarding the footballing timetable.}

1.) 19 Apr 2020 18:45:50
On that note Ed what is likely to happen with the transfer window? I’m sure it normally opens round about 1st July. Can that still happen with all the uncertainty surrounding the leagues or is it likely to be delayed until decisions have been made on how and when the football season finishes.

{Ed007's Note - I've no idea what they're going to do mate and it's one of the most important things that needs to be settled pretty soon - probably even before decisions regarding leagues or matches being played - along with expiring contracts, loan deals ending, sponsorship deals.
As things stand come June 30th we'll only have Scott Bain as a first team GK.}

14 Mar 2020 10:15:31
I've been told that Celtic are extremely confident Edouard will sign a new and improved contract and that the club are pushing hard to sign Ivan Tony in the summer who they believe we take over the mantle when Eddy eventually moves on.

Ice Man

1.) 14 Mar 2020 13:52:35
Good news but what was the point of Klimala? Seems a big outley for a future squad player?

The signings are starting to come thick and fast now. Defence remains a big priority as does a keeper and I'm sure we'll see some movement in those departments soon. I also personally believe we need to sign at least two strikers. The reason I say this is for me all top clubs should have 4 strikers no matter what formation is preferred. We have yet to replace Klimala, Eddy is without doubt leaving the club and we don't know the situation with Griffiths, leaving only Ajeti as a natural striker. Also having 4 strikers allows the manager to switch formation if we're chasing goals.

Ice Man

1.) 16 Jul 2021 18:09:59
Spot on as usual Ice-Man. 👍.

2.) 16 Jul 2021 18:52:35
Yes Barry, agreed. I think we need a bit more experience too. Young guys can be very good but they develop faster and to a higher level when they have a team of experienced players around them. We do have some very experienced players but for key areas like defence we can't throw young lads in right away and expect them to be playing to a high standard.
Even if we buy a couple of players who may not necessarily have huge resale value in the future then I believe we should look at that route. Not every player is a profit maker, some will be happy to stay with us and if we get a good contribution from them then the team needs that balance. HH.

3.) 16 Jul 2021 19:38:15
100% Ice Man.

14 Jul 2021 22:27:01
Only caught the last half hour of the game tonight. The stand out performers from what I saw were Liam Shaw and Big Dane Murray. Urhoghide looks Preston solid as well. Let's not focus on the result. These preseason games are all about fitness. Hopefully the injuries to MJ, Barkas and Karamoko are not too serious.

18 Jun 2021 22:20:07
Some outstanding performances tonight. But for me none more so than Callum McGregor. Outstanding both in possession and out of it. That's the Calmac we all know and hopefully the one Big Ange will inherit this coming season.

Ice Man

1.) 18 Jun 2021 22:44:59
Calmac was immense!
MOTM in my opinion! But saying that there were so many amazing performances tonight! Discipline was the key tonight it was a great performance!

2.) 19 Jun 2021 14:34:15
I think it proves that calmac is at his best when he's not the main man. Keep him as vice captain and buy a proper replacement for Brown. This'll let calmac do what he's best at without the burden of captain, controlling the game, dictating pace, and playmaker.

3.) 19 Jun 2021 18:52:46
Don't understand that logic, he didn't play well last season, and he wasn't captain, maybe if he had been captain, the team and himself, might have performed better.

11 Jun 2021 21:13:31
I'm really hoping we see a few signing in the coming days. We took far too long to appoint a manager, there's no way we can afford to do the same with bringing in players 🍀.

Ice Man

1.) 11 Jun 2021 21:45:18
Yes Barry, we need to see some fast action on the signings.
Our club has to shrug off the reputation of dilly dallying and feckin around.
If we want someone then go and get the deal done before anyone knows we were ever looking at a player. HH.

2.) 11 Jun 2021 21:55:01
Let's hope so Ice Man.

Who do you think is identifying new players though with Hammond out the door a while ago? Are we still expecting a director of football to be named?

3.) 11 Jun 2021 22:00:42
Hopefully but i hope Agne brings in a few Obv there's players been looked at already by the background staff but I'm looking forward to see who Agne hand picks.

4.) 11 Jun 2021 22:33:30
With qualifiers fast approaching there's a possibility we could be left with just Bitton, Welsh, Hjelde at CB, No RB, No Eddy or Griff with only Ajeti and Bayo up top, and only Johnston at LW. That gives me the fear! A RB, LCB, LW, ST is a priority to start off with. It will be yet another makeshift team playing CL qualifiers unless we get some players in quickly.

5.) 11 Jun 2021 22:33:33
The club are long overdue some positive and exciting news and the best way to lift the support and even convince players to stay or come to Celtic is to bring in quality right now.

6.) 12 Jun 2021 03:46:02
Ice Man i just pray next season our defence doesn't leak like a fecked asda carrier bag lol.

7.) 12 Jun 2021 06:00:46
Dnn38, by all accounts anges teams are regularly left open at the back. I hope as wellthis changes. Generally we will be pleased to see really open football, but when we go into Europe especially we need to be organised. Our teams under Rogers tried to go toe to toe with some big teams and we got our pants pulled down regularly . Our defeats recently in the qualifiers were against teams that were quite well organised and were clinical when they had chances, we need to be more like that in European games. Matt Ryan would be an improvement however, but if arsenal are keen to bring him back, we won’t compete with their wages they offer.

8.) 12 Jun 2021 08:07:11
Quinn it has been said that Ryan is more interested in going somewhere that he will play as opposed to sitting on the bench, he has a much better chance of that with us than Arsenal.

9.) 12 Jun 2021 15:59:00
It's a hard one to call for new players on one hand IF we bring in say 3 new faces in a week or two Who do you think chose them? And if it's a matter of a month or more it will probably be too late for Europe but I think we can right off Europe this year the board have not given Ange time to assess the squad and look at new players.

04 Jun 2021 19:30:30
Mark have you heard anything about John Hughes coming in to take the colts team?

Ice Man

{Ed007's Note - I've been out all day mate - it would have been my dad's birthday so I was out with my mum - so unless anything new has came out, I've seen the stories etc and to be honest I think the job's beneath him, I'd rather see him getting a job a bit further up the tree or being more influential in youth development than running the colts against amateurs, he'd should be able to get a job in the SPFL (Dundee Utd?) or at the very least the Championship and he'd give that up to manage Celtic Colts?}

1.) 04 Jun 2021 20:50:15
It would certainly be a strange move to go from managing and SPL club to managing our colts team. I must admit I’d love him to come to Celtic in some capacity. I’ve always had a great admiration For John Hughes. His teams play a great brand of football and there are not many characters like him left in the game. He’d be a great asset to have at the club in my opinion.

{Ed007's Note - I totally agree 👍

If that’s true UI then the Celtic board really aren’t fit for purpose. If there were any indications that a deal for Howe could potentially hit snags we should have hit it on the head and moved onto the next candidate immediately.

I hope you’re correct Mikey. Farce is an excellent candidate. My question would be though if the deal was dead weeks ago, why have we waited so long to progress with Farve. It’s a rhetorical question mate, I’m not looking for an answer.

Really hope Edouard is sold ASAP to whoever puts in an acceptable offer. I’ve been appalled with his attitude, work rate and desire last season. I want him gone.

To be fair though Kev the majority of Scottish players playing in England started their careers in Scotland and because of their success up here earned moves to clubs down south.

Auf Hibs are just like every club in Scotland. In need of money. If a substantial offer lands on their desk there is every chance they will accept it. I get what you’re saying though however if we make Hibs an offer they can’t refuse hopefully the deal ban be done quickly. If the lad has a decent Euros a heard of English teams will come calling.
