We've been linked during this summer transfer window with the Maccabi midfielder, Mohammed Abu Fani, who's team last night put Olympiakos out of CL qualifying, he also scored one of the goals.

The result, as BuzzBomb posted earlier earns Celtic an additional 950K due to co efficient rankings and his transfer price8is apparently around 800K.

Essentially if we sign him he'd have paid for his own transfer ?

Pedro

Peter Lawell would have loved that deal.

28 Jul 2022 12:09:15
JFP, it's the stuff of dreams for Lawwell Snr.

The players agent is yer man, Dudu Duhan, so maybe Lawwell Snr is helping to broker this deal behind the scenes (as a consultant ?) .

Lawwell gets unfairly criticised at times. He deserves criticised for appointing Lennon but under his reign we enjoyed huge success on the park and ensured we were healthy financially and not financially mismanaged.

28 Jul 2022 16:29:46
But how many ten of millions did he cost us by not getting to CL groups. Know there is no guarantee early signing’s would make it happen, but he hamstrung us for over a decade.

The Pundit
Peter Lawwell gets nowhere near enough criticism on here.
His record in Europe and appointing managers is deplorable.

28 Jul 2022 17:06:25
Pedro did you know Celtic had Scouts at the game last night watching Muhammad. That's 3 times now we watched since start of July.

28 Jul 2022 17:38:45
It wasn't Lawwell that cost us tens of millions by not getting to the CL group stages, it was the quality we had at our disposal. In order to qualify we need to have a certain quality of player but to attract said quality we need to be able offer guarenteed CL football in the first place. Do you think Jota and CCV would've signed permanently if we were in the qualifiers?

28 Jul 2022 18:03:46
Pundit
The reason we didn't have the quality is because Lawwell wouldn't spend the money on them, and because we consistently failed to qualify for the CL group stages good players didn't want to come. HH.

28 Jul 2022 18:19:04
In addition to my previous comment, Lawwell should never have been in a position to choose players. He's an accountant and his business is numbers, not football because he knows f*ck all about it. HH.

28 Jul 2022 18:31:07
You've pretty much echoed my point Besty. It's one thing submitting bids for players, it's another trying to convince them to come to the Scottish league without the guarentee of Champions League football! Is there an automatic spot in the CL for this seasons league winners?

28 Jul 2022 18:36:18
I don't think I did echo your point. I was actually in disagreement with what you said. lol HH.

28 Jul 2022 18:44:45
The Pundit,
The 2023 Scottish Champions will be guaranteed CL football and probably also the 2024 Scottish Champions.

28 Jul 2022 18:59:23
It was always the cheap option and leaving transfers to the last minute or even worse doing deals once we'd gone out, never understood that.

28 Jul 2022 19:25:51
Mally, that's why he should never have had any control over signings. As he proved season after season he didn't have a clue how football works. Good with numbers yes, but sh*t with football nouse. HH.

28 Jul 2022 19:29:19
Besty you said good players didn't want to come because we consistently fail to qualify for the CL. That's the same as players not wanting to come if we are in the qualifiers and at that stage can't guarentee them CL football.

As Buzz says the next 2 years are probably guarenteed CL so by ensuring we win the league we can show quality players that we can consistently offer them CL football and that Celtic and Scottish football is not a backward step in their career.

I'm not saying Lawwell is exempt from any criticism of course there would be a few decisions he'd wished he had chose a different option but he was in no way bad for the club.

28 Jul 2022 21:58:04
Overall he was shockingly bad for the club.
He made positive decisions once in a while but then again even a broken clock is right twice a day. He made a whole lot of bad ones that undid anything good he ever did and the club is still trying to fix his f*ck ups. HH.

{Ed007's Note - ?

28 Jul 2022 22:23:37
I agree with you in the sense that his appointment of Neil Lennon and the failure to get the 10 will probably be his legacy in most fans eyes and overshadows many of the positives. But I believe at all times he acted with club's best interests at heart.

28 Jul 2022 22:44:22
Paul, is it confirmed we have watched yer man?

I've read conflicting stories, one even suggesting that Ange has no interest in the player?

I genuinely don't know much about him but will watch with interest.

☘️ ? ☘️.

{Ed007's Note - Celtic have definitely watched and shown serious interest in the player. We've spoke about him on the podcast for months at it just seems to be one of the signing where all the star aligns.
Two separate newspapers from the same media group are reporting conflicting stories about whether Celtic were watching Fani last night, that I don't know but they have had him scouted and watched - and his agent is Dudu Dahan.}

28 Jul 2022 22:52:15
Wasn't that the reason Lennon left the first time? Because he was sick of us selling our best players and downgrading them with projects and a dwindling budget? So the quality on show was down to Lawwell. Granted he done a great job for us commercially and getting the most out of player sales but his meddling with the team kind of overshadowed a lot of his good work.

29 Jul 2022 01:47:23
We will always be a selling club due to the league that we play in and the financial contstraints that come with that. C'mon were we supposed to ko bids of tens of millions for the likes of Van Dijk, Tierney, Dembele, Edouard, etc etc.
Lawwell from 2003 until he left was praised for reducing debt and increasing revenue. Yes he was a tough transfer negotiator but he wanted what was best of the club.
You can't just spend and spend with more going out than you have coming in. How many major honours did we in under his tenure? A whopping 13 League titles, 9 Scottish Cups and 7 League Cups. Infact here's an intetesting thought to ponder, if Lawwell hadn't left his first position with the club as financial controller back in 1991 is it possible we could've avoided the financial mess in 1994. Who knows however having gotten over missing out on the 10, stepping back and looking at the bigger picture I think he done better than what people give him credit for.

29 Jul 2022 08:59:39
I watched the guys YouTube clips and he is a player. I hope we get him. And on Lawell, he and his dithering cheapskatery cost us tens of millions by never and I mean never, being prepared for the CL. After BR left I said him leaving wasn’t the problem, it was Lawell staying and that we would never move forward until he left. I rest my case. So keep moving forward Celtic and buy this lad.

29 Jul 2022 10:32:13
We should be keeping a serious eye on Fani.

☘️ ? ☘️.

29 Jul 2022 15:02:27
I've been watching Fani for a while now.
