I see the Daily Record has dredged up an old story. The story I am talking about is some senior Celtic employees were involved in a tax avoidance scheme. The scheme in question, were "controversial film partnerships".

This story was known about ages ago and already covered in this paper as well as other papers, at the time. Which raises the question, why are they bringing it up again?

Before, I continue let me point out a very important fact that will help you bat this nonsense away when some stupid blue nose tries to tar our club with the same brush as theirs. The fact is - Celtic as a club where not involved in this tax avoidance scheme, it was only employees of the club. Not only that, this scheme did not violate any SFA or SPL (was not SPFL at the time) rules, so no action will be taken against our club. Lastly, our employees using this scheme did not help us on the park so none of our titles were won through cheating.

Going back to why this story has resurfaced now. To me it stinks of misdirection in that I expect a bad news story about Rangers and the powers that be at Ibrox want to direct the anger away from them and towards Celtic.

Bang on RabMac definitely a deflection. I wonder what is happening on the marble staircase today? New court action, HMRC maybe? Highlight other tax events to normalise their own. Puma, 32Red, Joey Barton, Big Mike or new contender. I await with my bowl and spoon. Lol.

Get in there rabmac.

I've got a sevconian sitting next to me at work and he loved reading out the daily ranger story.
I read out your post and he's gone a little quiet.

HH.

I would expect Peter lawell or someone from the club to make a statement regarding this.

12 Oct 2016 16:52:51
If you think the stories are bad this week wait until the week before we play Rangers, the papers will be saying Dembele is leaving, Griffiths is unsettled at not starting etc etc just the usual crap before a big game.

Hands up who likes paying tax?

Noone? There's a surprise.

We earn 200 a week and we hate paying a few hundred a year. Now imagine you earn 25 grand a week. You have to give HALF of that back in tax.

So along comes some slimey accountant. For a few grand I'll make you pay less tax.

No you say I like paying tax. Dyf.

Now tax avoidance is okay. Tax evasion is highly illegal.

Ragers EVADED paying tax by this employee scheme and ultimately shutting shop to avoid paying it.

(Ps I pay corporation tax, vat, cap gains tax, tax when I bought my house, income tax and tax on every single flecking thing I buy. Christ you even pay tax on benefits)

I am delighted that Peter Lawwwell and everyone else holding a responsible position in Celtic appear to be giving the Daily Record's rehashed story from years ago the respect and coverage that this paper deserves . We all know that the Daily Record is providing a side- show as more bad news about Rangers finances are about to become public knowledge .
All we have to do is not buy or give any money to the Daily Record.

It's predictable and monotonous; the way they conjure up fantasy and slanted stories to try and deflect from and protect the manky mob.
The International break has given them two weeks to try and take the focus off the tribute act's financial peril, their out of control player, the reality of their mid-table status and the credibility and inability of the Brentford Bread boy.
They are getting worried and it will escalate before the cup semi as will the stench of fear.

I might be wrong but I've always thought the word 'news' was a plural of 'new'. You know, new stuff people should know about? How is dredging up stuff which seems to be without basis news of any sort? They are a joke with a horrible axe to grind and they deserve nothing more than contempt, if even that.

12 Oct 2016 22:42:26
So Rabmac, tax avoidance is okay as long as it's the employees? I pay my taxes, you pay taxes and no doubt the majority of posters on here pay taxes, but as long as it's not Sevco/ Rangers it's okay? Trying to justify tax avoidance by trying to apply some twisted moral high ground is staggering. Here's hoping all of these tax dodgers, be they linked with Celtic or otherwise are ordered to pay it back.

apparently news is north east west south.

13 Oct 2016 14:01:30
Hugh, rab never said tax avoidance was ok he said it wasn't the club (celtic) that was involved.

Not sure celtic can be accountable for what there employees decide to spend there sovies on.

@Tick67 - nae point trying to reason with these numpties mate, they are guilty of "tactical stupidity". ;)

13 Oct 2016 14:51:25
@Hugh Jarse - Let me educate you. The tax scheme you are talking about is a LLP. The Celtic employees who used the scheme were advised by a well known accountant firm. They then informed HMRC in their tax return and HMRC informed them that tax was still due as the tax was not off-setable. Upon being told this all Celtic employees paid the tax owed. So there was no tax avoided as it all got paid. This is an old story dating back to 2012.

I should point out that Alan McLaren, Alan McGregor, Barry Ferguson, Craig Moore, Alex Clelland, Maurice Ross, Archie Knox, Walter Smith and others used the same scheme. Check out Roosternet Global LLP on Companies House website to see your beloved Walters name in black in white.

If I were you, the question I would be asking was why were none of the Rangers employees mentioned in the article? What bad news is coming your club's way?

13 Oct 2016 18:44:53
Rab what happened to not reasoning mate?

Get em told lol 😀.

I agree with the avoidance and evasion comment. Why would you want to part with your cash if you legally did not have to? You don't buy things in a sale and offer to pay the original price. Many people wait until items are reduced before buying them thus avoiding paying a higher price. Same with tax. There are ways to avoid paying tax which are perfectly legal.

Lying about income etc and not paying what is required is illegal and that is what that lot did. Even taking EBT's out of the equation, they did not pay their legal requirement on tax, Nat Insurance etc.
