I say it again, for one so young the lad Tierney really is something rather special. This boy is going to have an incredibly massive future and I think it'll be as an out and out winger and not as a left back. HH.

Did Gareth bale not start out as a full back?, not making a comparison but would seem to be a realistic transition.

He is going to the top of the game if he keeps developing like this.
Going to be as good a full back as Ashley Cole and the likes.

Future captain of celtic indeed, the wee man would run through a brick wall for the jersey, was a star under Rd n br n an absolute consummate professional n showed n still is showing a lot of others how u play for this special club as well as behave.
Hope to see more like him come through the ranks, good to see players play for the jersey and not the money.

I see him as an outstanding left back or wing back . He is very sharp into the tackle and if he happens to miss he recovers quickly and gets back into position . He is superb at racing quickly in the open space in front of him and is always aware of trying to use the ball. City and Barcelona tried to target him defensively but neither got much joy and in both games he caused trouble to their defence . A wonderful young player& hopefully he will be the catalyst for many more to come through this season and future seasons.

I was trying to think who Dembele reminded me off and realised that it was not one individual but two.

Inside the box he reminds me of Shearer, in that he can score from anywhere in the box, either by a powerful shot or with the head and is very aggressive.

Outside the box he reminds me of Thierry Henry in that he is quick, powerful and skillful. He can fly past players with ease if he is given space to run at them and can make opportunities out of nothing.

Don't get me wrong he is not at either of these players level yet but I have been very impressed and it would not surprise me if he reaches that level in the next 5 years or so.

He reminds me of Dembele . He is his own man and even though he is only 20 years old he doesn't want to confine himself to be anyone of these stars that have gone before them . His aims and objectives are not based on anyone player and it's wrong for us to limit him in our minds either
Don't put stupid pressure on him to be like this one or that one.

Just a thought but if sterling is worth 48 million young tierney must be around the same the bhoy went toe to toe with him n it was fascinating to watch both were evenly matched n that was kt's goal who cares bout deflections lol.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

29 Sep 2016 19:41:04
Not so sure we would get anywhere close to 48 million but there is no denying Tierney's ability and massive potential. If he ever did leave then I am confident we would be receiving a massive fee in return.

Going back to last night's game, if you watch the lead up to Tierney's goal (I'm giving it to him) , you will see him bombing forward from deep and he is waving his hands in the air like a mad man to get Rogic's attention. If you did not notice it you should watch again as it's class.

Agree4 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 20:21:48
I cannot praise young Tierney enough and what an experienced head on young shoulders - on top of his talent and fabulous ability.
He has a terrific engine, great control and can cross, shoot and tackle and is still only a bhoy!
Even when he is not at his best - which is very rare - he never hides and keeps plugging away, trying to help the team.
He reminds me of a young Danny McGrain - but possibly even better?
I truly hope he stays a Celt for a long, long time.

Agree4 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 20:56:48
I thought Tierney would be the closest player to 20 mill transfer and set a record. But now Dembele is and probably 1st ever 20+ mill. was thinking of a nice sell on clause as well! PL needs to play hard ball and get a true epl money transfer! I hope Dembele stays for years but at some point he would want to go to the highest level.

We do have some expensive players that could bring in way more then the Wanayma, Van dyk, Forster years.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 21:00:00
He has a better shot than Danny McGrain, lol. However, he seems to be made of steel, just like McGrain was.

Long way to go before he can be talked about the same as McGrain but the early signs are extremely promising.

Not sure if it's just me but I thought griffiths looked uninterested when he came on? Maybe he was annoyed he only got 5/ 10minutes, I hope it's not a glimpse of what's to come from him maybe? He's getting nervous his position has been taken for the time being. I for one was furious watching him jog about after watching the others players giving their all for 90mins and if I was Rodgers I would be having some very serious words with him. Also thought Brendan was silly not to put Roberts and Griffiths on earlier but I suppose a point is better than none which is what we might have got.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

29 Sep 2016 12:08:32
I think for BR it was catch 22 with Griffiths and roberts.
I thought forrest put a real shift in last night and br was justified starting him on that performance.
Griffiths is another matter I am interested to see if he has the character to wait for his chance back in the team because at the moment dembele is first name on the sheet.

Agree3 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 12:47:38
He done it through RD tenure, no reason to think he won't now.

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Sep 2016 12:57:46
I agree about Griffiths and Roberts. Last season (along with KT) they were about the only players that were on top of their form and were the highlight of a mixed season for Celtic and it must be difficult for them looking on from the bench, but they have to be professional.

Agree3 Disagree1

29 Sep 2016 12:59:51
He has already shown his character waiting to get into ronnies side . no fuss no moaning bided his time knuckled down got his rewards as for looking uninterested last night never seen it dundee bhoy he had 7 mins to get into and up to speed and filled in midfield behind dembele done all he could. chased forward tracked back held his giving g position.

Agree0 Disagree5

29 Sep 2016 13:35:50
It's completely different from RD time in charge in every aspect.

After he forced his way into team he owned his spot and rightly so.
And tbh i think he had to earn his spot that way as he definitely had some "behavioural issues".

Now after everything he's done he gets injured for a couple weeks and this 20 yo smashes 3 past the zombies and tore man city a new one.

He's back to square one and by the looks of it he needs to raise his game because when you look at it at 20 years dembele is going to get better.

Great selection problem to have 😆.

Agree3 Disagree1

29 Sep 2016 17:46:58
I thought young Tierney was immense last night its great when you see one of your own in the team and you just know he just loves wearing they Hoops, i also thought Dembele and Sinclair were outstanding too.

Agree11 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 18:08:44
Drb I don't buy the ''only had 7mins line'' he is a professional, would you have gave Gordon the same Leigh way (pun intended) if he failed to perform for the first 7minutes? Griffiths' performance wasn't that bad as yes he only played 7minutes my issue was the lack of fight. He couldn't have been tired he'd only played 7mins lol. There was one instance in particular when a long ball went up the park and dembele won the header yet griff was jogging forward? I wanted to see him running as fast as he could and who knows perhaps he may have got the ball? That is where my frustration came from but I suppose that shows how far we have come this season when we are disappointed with a 3-3 with City.

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Sep 2016 18:28:13
The commentator hit the nail on the head when he said that was a difficult match to come on as a sub because of the pace at which it was being played at. Based on that you can't really compare an outfield player with a GK coming on as sub.

Now add to that the fact that when Griffiths came on most of our players had ran themselves into the ground and were not supporting the forwards as much.

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Sep 2016 19:21:14
I think tierneys best quality is week in week out you get 100% from the bhoy.
The opposition doesn't matter it could be man city or dundee the kid is a great example for players coming through or players coming in he plays for the hoops.

HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 19:43:39
I know what you mean and it can be summed up with the phrase "he is one of us". What I mean by that is if any of us had the same ability as Tierney and had the opportunity to pull on the hoops, we would give it everything we had because it is the team we all love.

Agree2 Disagree1

29 Sep 2016 20:23:13
" Now add to that the fact that when Griffiths came on most of our players had ran themselves into the ground and were not supporting the forwards as much. "

Even more reason for him to be the one busting a gut trying to get up and help dembele, maybe Gordon wasn't the best example but there is plenty more who would have got stick for what griffiths did or didn't do. If cifti had come on and jogged about most of you would be calling for him to never play for the club again, same with Biton, Forrest, etc etc. just because it is griffiths does not mean he should be let off. What if it had been the other way round griff started banged in a couple goals and dembele came on and never bust a gut to give him some support? . Take off the tinted specs folks he wasn't interested! .

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 21:11:40
You know bhoys it's refreshing to hear us all say the whole team man for man literally ran themselves into the ground! You don't see that enough in football in general now but when it's your own team makes me proud.

I honestly can't mind the last time I thought that about a celtic performance. Individualy some players stood out more than others but man for man they have all played the celtic way.

HH.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 21:41:57
Why as fans do we have to pick holes in every single one of our players?

So far this season we have had Dembele written off by some before he had played a league game. Lustig who was one of our most consistent performers last season constantly being described as finished. Brown and MCGregor slaughtered as not good enough.

I didn't see the game but Griffiths is one of the only reasons we won the league season. To be on here talking nonsense about him is out of order. He is just back from injury and has probably been rushed back onto the bench. Would you rather have Nadir Ciftci coming on?

Agree0 Disagree5

29 Sep 2016 22:14:42
I think what's rattled a few cages is that he didn't seem as committed as the players on the park.
Personally I think it's a little harsh on Griffiths but I wouldn't disagree tbh.

You should probably watch the game mate!

Agree1 Disagree0

Isnt this the same Griffiths who played through the pain barrier earlier in the season? That is why he only lasted 60 minutes of the 3 games before he was injured.

To question him is a complete joke regardless of whether I watched the game or not. Unfortunately I can't make games, can't afford BT and couldn't find a stream.

I cannot believe (or understand ) why any of us at this time would even consider criticising LG. He has ran and jumped and hassled and harried and scored and scored and scored again. A new level of maturity. Outstanding in the air and a complete turnaround player who took the long road back to relevance and consistency and hero worship

He ain't messi. We know that.

He is LG and he's ours and we should be very glad for that simple fact!

Agree0 Disagree1

30 Sep 2016 03:24:06
honestly Is there something in the water? Too much fluoride in the toothpaste? Everyone has disagreed with what I have said (bar tick) but can anyone honestly say griff gsve any effort what so ever in the time he was on the park? Let's get some thing straight here I ever once said he should be dropped or that he wasn't the one with tierney who dragged our team to success? My criticism was of his performance on Wednesday, I provided my opinion of why that me be and all you guys respond with is how dare I criticise griff? Get a grip folks everyone is open to criticism at work and rightly so.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Sep 2016 06:35:50
I hear ya niall and I said myself it seems a little harsh but when you watch every other player physically exhausted at 80 mins and he strolls in I think that's annoyed a few folk.

I'm not criticizing you for not watching game mate as I didn't make it either and only managed to watch it on bt because I have a chipped freesat box. I only mean if you watched the players run themselves into the ground like that you might have had the same opinion.

I'm not actually criticising Griffiths imo it was a non event bringing him on that late after the dramatic first 83 mins especially since he's just back from injury.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Sep 2016 11:00:51
Griff wasn't on long n made I really important challenge down in the left back area when city were trying to press us at the end, never once did I even think they'd score as I felt we were secure.
But the wee man didn't have long n did his part, for me nobody gets criticism for Wednesday's performance as to a man we were brilliant n we win lose or draw as a team.
Hail hail.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Sep 2016 12:08:57
So in 7minutes of football a fresh Griffiths makes one tackle and he's done his part? As I said before one rule for one (griff) and another for everyone else? I don't know how many times I need to say it my criticism of Griffiths only applied to that one game nothing more.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Sep 2016 12:14:00
If you have not watched the game how can you possibly comment on individual performances?

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Sep 2016 19:12:45
Tompo

Not sure if your comment was aimed at me?

I watched Griff dig us out the sh1t time and time again last season in the poorest Celtic team I have seen in a long time. That is good enough for me.

To criticise him in a game he was given 7 minutes is a joke. Did anyone consider he was maybe told not to chase lost causes? How many times did Johansen used to chase lost causes and then get caught out of position?

If anyone wants to send me the footage of the last 7 minutes I will gladly watch it.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 11:46:31
One thing about dembele that every young player should look to is his attitude towards the game he could have went to Juventus, bayern, real Madrid any team in Europe and would have got payed a hell of a lot more for sitting on the bench or playing for the youth team he knows if he can improve with us he will get the big money move so for that I'm just going to enjoy him been a celtic player while he's here.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

29 Sep 2016 14:01:01
Well put Gordo. I hope we can keep him for a couple of seasons. Think he is on a 4 year deal but you are correct, they will be plenty of teams after him and not teams fighting relegation either. Like you I will enjoy watching him whilst he is here.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 15:38:06
You are right Johnny, he signed a 4 year contract, so should have him for at least two season, possibly 3. Would love him to sign an extension though as he looks like he is going to be some player.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 18:57:47
He has the makings of a damn good striker and team player . I think he cleared many set pieces and ran 20/ 30 yds to put tackles in . That and scoring two good goals shows just how good he is .
It's fantastic to see such a young team who all are prepared to play their guts out, they can only get better as they will become fitter and fitter . Brendan's style demands super fitness levels and the players all seem to be working at that.

Agree0 Disagree6

29 Sep 2016 11:17:48
a far more important result than ours last night was the events in Germanmery.

BMG were beating the mighty Barcelona until very late in the game.

They would have taken a point if the keeper had held onto the ball.

I have watched both their CL games and the thing that strikes me is their height (although they seem to play the ball on the deck) .

I think we absolutely need to dominate both games against them as if they have the ball and fire it in high - with our GKs recent performances - we could be in trouble.

We must win our home game - need to play like last night - and ideally a point there.

Aiming for 3rd this way - but if Barcelona beat/ draw MC home and away, the game at city could be HUGE - you may say I'm a dreamer.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

29 Sep 2016 11:28:52
If we win our home game, that should be enough for 3rd spot. However, they are a good team and I am not taking anything for granted. We are already doing better than what I expected as I said we would be doing well to get a point from this group.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 13:03:02
I watched BMG in a qualifier and they are a very good team with some very talented forwards - including 'the other' Hazard.
It will be very tough to get anything from both games although last night will have sent out a reminder about Celtic Park on CL nights
and we have to approach all the games like we did last night.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 14:07:38
agree - we need to play away games like last night.

why would you do anything differently to MC in Manchester from last night.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 18:56:41
BMG are obviously favourites but if we are in top form you never know. Who seriously, sober, thought we would get anything from City?

Can be done and Europa league place is a real possibility.

We don't know how good this team can become .
Remember 6 months ago many posters wanted rid of Forrest and Brown . Lustig was a sick note and playing one striker up front was a disaster .

Agree0 Disagree5

29 Sep 2016 21:59:04
heads were down - now tails are up.

we showed the EPL - no the world - how to play against Man City / Pep last night.

why would we now travel down to Manchester and not play exactly the same way? That would be madness.

Its not like they are going to play "more aggressively" than last night.

Or should we just defend in Manchester?

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Sep 2016 23:24:19
I think we have to think and believe that we will beat borussia at home. Do we have any reason to doubt our players?

Rogic dembele Sinclair and Forrest will give them some problems.

To compete we need an on form keeper and a solid 2nd centre half and THAT player who plays between brown and Rogic ( ie biton )

When the 2nd midfielder plays well and the 2nd centre half plays well and the Keeper saves the ones we expect them to save and surprises us with a few other saves and catches we will WIN ( at home ) more than we lose against Europe's cream because that's the effect of Celtic park when the tails are up.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Sep 2016 09:27:51
I will be going into every other European match the way I have gone into all the previous ones.

That is I will be thinking and saying we are underdogs and that there is a good chance we will get beat. However, inside I know there is always a chance of turning a team over at home. The difference is I don't expect to draw/ win all our games at home and am happy with any positive result.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 09:59:16
I actually enjoyed last nights match more than I enjoyed the match we beat Barca. I know the Barcelona game was a better result.

Last night we played some excellent football and took the game to City. The pressing was immense for the first 60 minutes before the players tired. I know they had the bulk of possession and chances in the last 30 minutes but the bhoys did not buckle and stood strong to see the match out.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

29 Sep 2016 11:11:17
Agreed.

All round there were some great little touches and nutmegs, and good interchanges, exciting stuff in what was an end to end game. The use of the surface, combined with pressing up against Otamendi and Kolarov really caused them problems. I just thought that getting LG on alongside MD could have been done a bit earlier. They were there for the taking. Would have snapped your hand for a point before the game though.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 12:15:26
Absolutely rab I know exactly what you mean.

I think with the Barcelona game even though we won we rode our luck and if it wasn't for some backs to the wall defending and forster we would have got skelped.
I watched it on bt last night and mcmannaman summed it up perfect when he said "if you were a neutral watching this game you wouldn't know which team cost 400m".
I thought we did ourselves and Scottish football proud, best performance from a Scottish team in Europe in last 10 years easy.

Guys, your team were excellent last night and it cannot be understated how much of a difference BR has made. Not only tactically but his belief in the players who were there beforehand has totally changed their belief in their own abilities.

In Sinclair and Dembele he has unearthed two gems who could take your team to another level. Credit where it's due, last night's performance should set you up for the remaining games.
