Just watching the previously mentioned football and a question came to mind. If clubs have to cut players salaries due to the current crisis would the Govt cover the percentage shortfall promised to normal worker's.

Think the govt said they would pay 80% of wages upto a max £2500 p/ month. Might help some of the smaller clubs out but I would imagine the claims process would be long, possibly too long for some.

No chance!

24 Mar 2020 23:24:25
That would help us as well lay off all the first team squad due to the COVID19, they will get a max of £2500 a month, is better than paying some of them £25,000 a week just to sit around and think about the meaning of life.

The club might be covered with Insurance policies paying a percentage of the wages and other costs.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it would be very unlikely that any clubs are insured for this. Certainly none are that I know of, hence all the clubs asking players to take a pay cut. You even have players at the likes of Bayern Munich taking a 20% cut as the insurance does not cover salary there in this event. I would be extremely surprised if there is any club in Scotland covered for this.}

25 Mar 2020 10:27:31
It’s the way it should be. If insurance money was paid to the rich there would be no money left for the people who need and deserve it.

Checked Tim's post and for a moment thought it was going to be coverage of the full game which it' obviously not. Anyway as I haven't seen any football for ages I'll be watching the half hour highlights.

There is also two other games, Man United v Real Madrid and Leeds United v Deportivo starting at 7:30.

IF (a big If as the SFA are looking to screw us any way they can) .
They decide to finish the season either closed doors or whatever, and it resumes in June.
Surely, teams have to resume with the same squad they registered for the campaign. No additions etc. allowed to play instead?
Some players may be out of contract and want to move on before the season gets to an end, how would that work?
The fairest solution is award the league as is (not just because we are in front, if it was sevco or anyone else I would reluctantly say the same) . NO releagation but promote the teams who have earned it and increase the SPFL (get rid of the stupid split) It would also allow a couple of teams on the waiting list to join the leagues.
Is this feasible - Thoughts?

The league wasn’t won.

I don't have any issue with teams being able to buy and sell players because it would be the same for everybody.

24 Mar 2020 18:22:58
What s the issue we can outspend them all.

Quite a sobering statement from the Aberdeen chairman. How long can Celtic go into the current lockdown before we have to cut wages? If this lasts 3 months, when it finally kicks of again I think it will mean nobody buying players for a wee while and having to work with the current squad. For us I think that will be in our favour as we have a young squad many of whom will progress, we have some quality young players coming through and we will still have Eddie and Big Fras. Where would it leave the Orcs though? Stay well everyone. (Apologies for a non Cirona post. I am treating this as seriously as I should I just think taking your mind of it for spells in the day is healthy to😊🤟 ) Markie.

If the Aberdeen chairman is right, and if Mr. 'Footballs Been Good To Us' Naismith is correct about only Celtic can cope with this in Scotland, and if the EPL teams living way outside their means without Sky money, then maybe just maybe that British League might have to come into play.

The tribute act can play out their existence against the rest, if they outlive Brechin and Brora Rangers.

This thing could go on for a very long time, I think we should be doing some thing similar to Hearts, I think we should ask all the first team squad members to take a drastic reduction in wages, maybe give everyone what ever the lowest paid member of the first team squad is getting, the ones who are losing out can be given the chance to rip up their contract and walk away, or to stay with the club on reduced money, with the difference that is owed to them, being gradually paid back to them over a period of time once things start getting back to normal, which might be sometime 2021.

First of all bhoys/ ghirls please all stay healthy.
Second my tip is avoid the supermarkets when you have to venture out for food, your local wee corner shop usually is well stocked with all the food essentials and keeps them in business, also the wee bakers, if they are still open use them as well
Third, if money allows, buy an extra loaf and pint of milk for the old neighbour living near you HH.

sadly, some of those wee local shops have obscenely pumped up prices on toilet rolls and sanitizer.

Morning All, officially my work has called it a day for 3 months. I know many of you will be in same boat so I'm thinkIng of trying to put together some sort of Fifa 20 Ultimate Team tournament? Or even just playing against each other in the friendly category? Would anyone be interested? HH.

Just got an email from the Government telling me to stay at home which is 100% correct understandable and the right thing. The pats on the back for Doris Johnson for how he’s handled this is feckn lost on me. Many people who are self employed like me are now faced with a choice break the law and expose yourself and loved ones to risk or don’t eat. What a feckn mess. Worse there are ar$eholes on social media celebrating the arrival of their British passports. Apologies for sharing but if I did so on LinkedIn with the Tory party’s apologists I’d never work again. Food banks could become a reality for many Ed.

I think it will be better than SSP they’re talking about basing it on an average of last three years earnings up to a max. I’ll let you know when I find out. Pray, hope and try not to worry. I feel for you guys it really annoys me to think some who have lived on handouts for the wrong reasons for years ( And I wholeheartedly believe in a welfare system as long as its managed properly by the way ) are going to be looked after better than you guys so don't give me the Boris is doing a great job crap. What I will say is in nearly 20yrs in my profession I have never seen and witnessed so much mis-information leading to staff and the people we look after being so scared and not knowing where to turn. Anyway folks stay safe and keep reminding them if they do go null n void we will just win it again they really don't like that reaction LOL LOL LOL.

Hail Hail
