The vast majority of Celtic fans have heard of goalkeeper Johnny Thompson who played from 1926 until he sadly passed away in 1931 at Ibrox.

He took over from another Celtic legend goalkeeper Charlie Shaw who played from 1913 until 1925.
Charlie Shaw was bought from QPR who he played about 225 games for the Londoners.
Shaw has very small for a goalkeeper at only 5ft 6in.

Shaw had an incredible shutout record in 1913/ 14 season.
He basically only conceded ONE goal in 23 games.
( 20 League and 3 SC Games )

Shaw went from October 4th until he conceded away to Raith Rovers in a 2-1 victory on December 13th.
He then never conceded another goal until we lost 1-0 at Falkirk on February 28th 1914.

That shutout record from December until February was a British record that lasted many decades but if Raith Rovers hadn't scored it would've been a record that might never have been beaten.

Shaw was made the Celtic Captain in 1916 which was unusual for a keeper back then.
Predictably Shaw never received any Scottish Caps in his long career.

Celtic played West Ham in a Friendly match down South and the Londoners clapped him on to the field because they remembered him from his time at QPR.

He died of Pneumonia in New York in his early 50s.

Great historical info there Buzz, I recall reading about Charlie in old Celtic books when I was young, reading the books was the way to get info then. No Google! The first Celtic goalie I saw playing for us was Jonny Bonnar.

He was very popular with the crowd and a dependable keeper in an era with no protection, you had to be strong and take the tumbles and thumps.
