Hi, don't post often but just wanted to ask a question. Legia have decided today that they will hold back on any comments until after UEFA make a decision and thanked then for the proffedionalism of the appeal. This is despite dragging Celtics name through the mud for the past few days. Regardless of the outcome of the appeal, can Celtic do anything about the defamation of the clubs name and reputation given we did nothing wrong? Legia broke the rules, I think we all agree they have reason to be upset by the initial ruling but none of this was a result of our clubs actions.

I know people were suspect when we let Forster go and only had Gordon BUT I think Gordon had a more commanding performance tonight that the Great Wall ever did! He came for ( and caught ) crosses all over the box. Don't get me wrong I think Forster is a great keeper but I think we may just have a suitable (if not better) replacement IF we can keep him fit. but like most things only time will tell

I said on here a few weeks ago I thought a fully fit on form craig gordon is better than forster and I got shot down but everyone has their own opinion i'll stick 2 mine forster was a great shot stopper but for the size of him he was shocking at commanding his area and looked scared 2 come for any crosses or corners and his distribution with his feet was pretty abysmal

Agree0 Disagree0

JGD, fit and healthy Gordon IS a better keeper and I will tell you why…he commenced the UK's largest fee for a goalie at £9.5M "years ago…" and came from a very provincial club (Hearts…)…Fraser went for £500k more when money/credit is being used as toilet paper these days down south so readily available "cash is"…fees lone do not tell us who is better but as I recall Gordon (at his best) and Foster at his best…I would opt for Gordon but granted, just an opinion….

Agree0 Disagree0

If Gordon can stay fit and grow in confidence then I think we may have a decent player. But it all depends on these 2 factors.

Paradise won, Andy carrol went for 35million and that didn't make him a good player

Poor first half, better tempo and not so predictable second half. Missed too many tackles in the middle of the park again. Desperately need a striker as we all know, ciftci from Dundee utd would do me, direct and powerful, holds it up well and brings others into play, could cause us problems on Saturday. That obviously wasn't good enough for RD though which is good. Sly just get worse though. Tanner referred to " celtics champions league appeal " wtf! To be fair he had just watched McCann nearly pop a blood vessel over our penalty, the st Johnston player that got sent off was calmer about it than him. They have reported the whole legia saga with an anti Celtic slant even greater than normal. For me they have been at the heart of the blame Celtic agenda the whole media seems to be running with. Then again they are very good at perpetuating myths.

quick assessment

gordon - kicking not bad (clearly left footed); took achievable high balls well and shot stopping wise seemed robust enough - A GOOD START

mathews - form me lacking proper commitment and was lacklustre early 2nd half and 1sr half awol along with johannsen; not sure about him at the moment

izzy = thought he had a really solid game in defence and attack; a surprise for me and a real bonus

VVD and Lustig - metioned jointly because I thought they did really well and looked quite cohesive; lustig was even using headers o tee up a VVD foray going forward; lustig could be a very decent option at CB if we cannot get form out of Efe and/or bring on the new (albeit young CB from man city)

(delighted also to see Lustig as captain as he isn't going anywhere.lots to like/admire about lustig)

bitton - actually thought he did okay and when he does get on the ball and move forward he does look reasonably quick'; would like him to be a little more competitive but I think he did okay (could sit behind a fully fit Brown with time and modest improvement)

johannsen - seems to have gone backwards; he is committed but his tackling was off tonight and his passing abysmal but his fitness was unmistakeable; a big ask at the moment for him as he is basically being asked to run the middle of the park in lieu of Brown

forrest - thought first 35 minutes was exceptional; great touches. super movement but wanted to come inside (in to traffic!) too often but then he is left footed and can hardly hit the bye line; when you are crossing from the right with your left foot the ball will inevitably arc in to the box that little bit quicker but with few very advanced strikers this could result in the incoming ball always being too far ahead of those in the box.so his hands were sort of tied but was generally impressed

mcgregor = came on to a game, certainly not shy but should maybe pass it off more often to players in better positions but this is difficult because when you are building a young players confidence you can hardily ask him to keep passing it off.decent enough and merits his place at the moment

commons - always looks dangerous because he is commons; picked up good positions but too often had few options to pass in to or tee up (thought he was (if anything) a little too close to Stokes tonight but he would be in my starting eleven; his response to coming off was very positive and he seemed quite chipper so happy with that!

stokes - for me he SHOULD have the tools to play this position; he is big and strong but he needs to develop his play a little better when his back is to goal (took his goal well albeit I think he should have squared it to commons but he did find the back of the net); I thought he lacked competitiveness and interest from time to time but then showed up in defence on our own touchline to clear the danger so a mixed report but there could be "some mileage" in being patient with Stokes

team performance 6 / 10

Man of Match - VVD Lustig or Gordon

priority purchases (in order)

Attacking midfielder
centre back
striker

Ronnie interview - quick but well put (substitutions) 6/10; worried when we lost commons and forrest .

very happy with result but scoreline did flatter us (a little. )

One last point - Griffiths is defo on his way out but will go when we get someone in and I believe we will get someone in which will see Leigh move on shortly .to hibernian (or dundee)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

James Forrest, left footed? Its the first time in his life he's been left footed.

Agree lustig is good anywhere and would much prefer him and vvd at cb.

Johansen was pants, actually thought derk and the new boy did OK when they came on.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm astounded as to why anyone would have the purchase of a striker LAST on their list of priorities

Agree0 Disagree0

R u serious, Forest left footed lol

Agree0 Disagree0

To JGD

strikers require "service" and we have had a midfield (now for years…) who don't know how to or simply cannot pick a pass in the mould of Moravcik…we need a player who can go box to box or half way line at least to opposing teams box who can (a ) score ( b ) pass ( C) link up play etc etc ….

who is to say that with such a player…the strikers may find their feet and score whatever it is this "inventive" player serves up….

Credit where it's due, just listened to RD speak after the game, he says it as he sees it, that we where not great first 20 very slow in the first half! As supporters that's all we want is him to see what we do from the stands / tv! Hope we can do Maribor! Also great to see that calamity jane Charlie mulgrew know where in site! Hope RD gets rid of remaining dead wood!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry I not falling for all this manager speak. Its too easy to say things, I want us to play better and not be embarrased about results. If this was Lennon he would be getting shot down in flames with these performances. Too many people on here were sucked in by this great philosophy he has and positive talkin. Do not be fooled by it, now I want him to be successful but he has to earn the right to be a good manager not just talk the talk.!1thing I know for sure he is not getting the best out of the players, I would a thought that was standard management not rocket science.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunately Joe, Mulgrew was suspended tonight and will be back.

Agree0 Disagree0

@2 I hope we registered him for the game though, lol Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

@rayman. A team in major transition. A couple of new players brought in. A new style of play throughout the football club. Give it time. I understand the need for us winning and playing attractive football but it can't be done overnight. Even Van Gall said the same about Man U. Do people really expect miracles overnight?

Agree0 Disagree0

A team in transition? It is exactly the same players last night.Only difference is the manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah a team that was used to playing a certain way hence the transition of playing style.

Maribor spy wasn`t exactly biting his nails, but slight improvement. We needed some quality (not quantity) adding last couple of years, nothings changed, regardless of whether we are in or out of Europe.

Baby steps . Getting a bit better can see they are trying to play quick passing football gk did well thought mcgregor was very impressive also a wee shock to see derk come on and make a good impact . Thought berget had some nice touches but a blind man can see we need some height up front a strong striker . A big greedy angry b****** to score the goals but did ok

Celtic always

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sums it up. We can expect things to change overnight.

Can't expect even

Decent performance. Still a long way to go.

But did by one else think a lot of players looked deflated out there like they just couldn't be bothered.

Stokes hardly celebrated his goal. Biton never looked that pleased after scoring the penalty. Derk looked away after mcgregor scored the 3rd and we seemed to be arguing over free kicks all night.

Was it just me that seen that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think derk thought the keeper had saved it . He looked interested.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it looked like relief from Stokes as we lost the ball nearly everytime he got it. The player all looked well chuffed for Bitton and even I looked away because I thought McGregors shot was saved. Always doom and gloom on here.

Was an ok performance but it was an improved performance! Some nice passing at times but wee need a target man! Liked Bergets touches when he came on maybe a find! We need a big striker who can score goals because we have no one to cross the ball to! 3/5 goal for young mcgregor! I think Deila is going to transform our players but he needs some money now!

No. Everyone knew at end of last season we needed new additions to strengthen squad. i'm struggling to see how celtic have addressed this.

Signing Craig Gordon- massive gamble due to injury record even if on a free.

Signing 2 players on loan- i'm not against loan signings especially if an option to buy is included in deal, but we need permanent signings so we can have a core to rebuild squad from.

Im not buying this pi$h about club has transfer funds, its attracting players on salaries available. its never been a problem in the past attracting players to club, its just an excuse so lawwell doesn't have to spend £.

I genuinely believe lawwell is exposed in this situation as not so long ago in january we were close to signing a £6m striker but fell through at last minute. (Elaborate lie from lawwell PR machine in my opinion). what's changed from back then?

Something is going on and I think each and every concerned celtic supporter would have more respect for board, if they kept them in the loop

Well 10 mins to go, not been a fantastic performance but I am satisfied that we are making gradual improvements.

A really good striker could be the final piece, Derk has played in some good crosses, Forrest has looked really good. McGregor is doing well enough. Scott Brown will bring drive and leadership.

Dundee Utd on Saturday will be a test and if we come through it then maybe Maribor will not concern me as much

Wish forrest would stop always cutting inside and hit a cross atleast once!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why cross it?

We have Stokes up front who is absolutely hopeless. Another pathetic performance from him.

Agree0 Disagree0

And cross it in to who bud? Stokes is poor can't trap or hold up play no height to cross it in to!! We need a striker or 2

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2014 20:45:33
Actually think forrest has been one of the few positives of the first at least he running at folk trying to make things happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Forrest was a plus for us tonight gives us something different! But it's not the best performance I've seen but a win is a win

13 Aug 2014 18:36:39
All the best to Ronny and the team tonight and I hope the players have the right attitude and application.
I am worried - not only from what I have seen up to now, but - because we may really miss Forster.
The new manager does not exude confidence at present after such a shaky start to such a high pressure job and the players are under-performing; but we have the majority of the title winning team to pick from and they need to remember they play for Celtic.

Just a thought.
Does anyone else think CFC are waiting for the final ruling from UEFA on the CL place before making a 'wild card' purchase? Or is there not going to be any new players either way?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think celtic are concerned about the outcome, why else would they not be selling tickets or adding the fixture to their website

Alright ed I posted the other week that I heard what mccoist had said to Lennon during that touch line bust up. Is there a reason why it wasn't posted?
Cheers

{Ed007's Note - Because it's pure speculation and conjecture which could leave us open to legal action.}

Ooo something nice and juicy. Slander is a funny old thing ain't it. Even on a rumours site.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It would surprise you, Jim, we learnt our lesson over the Ryan Giggs affair. We need to follow Ed002's instructions when it comes to things like that, and we already know The Slug isn't adverse to getting his own super-injunctions ;)

13 Aug 2014 13:00:34
On ssn website it says that the legia player wasnt registered for the previous three games, correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't a player have to be registered before the start of a 2 legged game and only when those games are complete then you can register another player, so if he was not registered before our first game with them does that mean they actually played a banned player who was not even registered to play?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know it prob won't but if uefa reverse their decision and swap us to Europa do you think celtic will appeal and will st pats also appeal if it's thought he did miss 3 matches?

Agree0 Disagree0

I am sure Celtic would appeal if they got in again and I am sure it would cause more problems for UEFA as they were not seeded so I guess any team that did not like there draw would complain to

Agree0 Disagree0

Just as a matter of interest and point of discussion, can any Celtic fan defend this season's transfer dealings?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think lack of money spent in transfer market is down to the board anticipating forces of darkness gaining promotion this season and giving whoever the manager is next summer a big wedge to spend ( I live in hope ) only time will tell!

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi folks just back fi holiday and managed to see both legs of the embarrassment in Europe, and tams reply got me thinking would it not be better to get decent guys in now to bed them in before there's even a slight chance of rangers ( or whatever you want to call them, hearts n hibs.) coming back into top league because like it or not, through time they will get stronger and from what I've seen in past 6/7 months we aren't getting any better!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2014 09:54:00
Although its not ideal, I actually understand the transfer dealings.

If Legia won their appeal today we would have spent money on players who aren't going to make any difference in terms of us winning the league. At present the squad is strong enough to win the league.

The board will hopefully spend if we confirm our place in the group stages but to rush out and spend it in 3 days would be madness.

Id like to see Celtic buy smart and young.

Souttar, McManaman, Armstrong and Guidetti. 12 million should see the lot join!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2014 10:04:40
Tam, if we did our business in the right manner, we would be out of sight already. The problem with the policy of looking for gems on the cheap is that even if we find any, they stand out in a sea of mediocrity and leave too quickly to be of any benefit to our team. Maybe with a better team, they would hang around a bit longer. The bank balance may improve but as football team we are going nowhere.
Sort of get what RD is saying about wage structures,BUT others should just be told that if they want Ronaldo type money, they need to be turning in Ronaldo type performances. At present we are stuck with the flip side of that in if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2014 11:00:57
Che like yourself I am more than worried about the transfer policy and even more worried about what comes out of Ronnie's head. In an early interview he said that he did not believe in loan deals as it just developed other teams players. Now he has Jason Deneyer and claims he is worth £10 million, so this kid is better than VVD is he? He then goes onto say we could not afford to buy him so he is going to develop players for another team? He is also suggesting he may take a striker on loan to "fix the problem up front". Issues are he is alienating the existing players talking like that in the press and is this another new policy, don't buy just get players in on loan. Who knows?

Agree0 Disagree0

After the likes of pukki derk and amido I think loans with option to buy are a great idea. a lot of teams are doing this now.
Dont understand why we have signed the boy from city purely on loan though. Would have liked a decent cb who would be here a few years.
Club has made some decent money the last few years and has spent a lot on transfers aswell. I am happy with the way we spend knowing the the club will have no financial problems for many many years.
We need to wake up and realise the money ain't there anymore. If you ain't a club in the top 5 leagues then the days of £6million pound players are gone

Agree0 Disagree0

We've been told we will spend money for the last 3 years if we qualify it's the same patter every year! We need to strengthen our team! I'd have been happy with what we've got plus Armstrong and May it's not exactly too much is it?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'd take Stevie May over Griffiths all day long, that's what I mean about not spending what money we have wisely.}

Been worried about how we are being 'run' for a while and it's frightening.
The money was there when Hooper and Wanyama were sold plus we had CL group money when we squeaked through by a baw-hair v. Karagandy.
The money was not invested wisely and we added some questionable additions who added zero quality.
There were plenty of affordable options (Russell, May and others, but we went for Griffiths?

This season we have a new manager and with a weak squad full of injury prone players and we get found out big time in the CL qualifiers.
We get a reprieve (or do we?) and then we sell our International goalie.
I realise the transfer window still hasa couple of weeks to run, but the manager should have had a list of players ready and the club should have been busy adding to the team. Instead, we scamper around on the eve of the SPL defence trying for loan deals.
We look very amateurish and hesitant for a club of our size and expectation thanks to the men that 'run' Celtic.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

I know ed too many talents slip away from our own league and 800k for a player who can lead the line! Think a lot of us are becoming disillusioned!
