Was just checking out that Andrea's Villas Boas there, actually has not a bad record as a manager.

I quite like the link royjac. Did well with Porto and Zenit. Probably didn't get enough time in England. It could be a real coup if we got him in.

{Ed007's Note - AVB was sacked by Chelsea after an independent study of the footballing department found that his training methods weren't up to scratch.}

Well that's why you're here Ed 😂 Cheers 👍.

{Ed007's Note - Yeah there were questions asked after a couple of his team selections and results so Abramovich got his footballing advisers to look at the footballing department to see where it was going wrong.
I've always liked AVB and the way his teams play and remember he was only about 32ish when he got the Chelsea gig and he went on to Spurs where they gained their highest points total in a PL season up until then. He's actually been doing car rallying since he left China 😮😮 I'll ask Ed002 for some info on AVBs plans for the future....

Would be interesting. Well I thought I rated him too. Yeah I remember reading he crashed out of the Dakar Rally 🤔. Seems a bit of an odd one to me that an owner would get people in to examine his coaching. What sort of credentials would such 'independent'people have? Still think it'll be Lenny next season then Ed?

{Ed007's Note - It's not unusual or odd for it to happen. Club owners like Abramovich have advisers with Piet de Visser (who is a very close personal friend of Ed002) holding a lot of power at the Chelsea when it comes to footballing matters. Obviously Abramovich has taken a bit of a back seat with his personal troubles so I don't know if it's still exact same but for years at Chelsea the set-up was that are/were at least 6 trusted lieutenants who advise Abramovich on players etc before the manager is even consulted - it was those 6 that brought in the assessors who didn't like AVB's training methods so he was sacked.
Piet de Visser has/had the authority to sign ANY player he sees anywhere in the world without having to even ask Abramovich to sanction it whether the manager likes the player or not. It doesn't matter how much it costs, de Visser has/had full authority to negotiate on Chelsea's behalf.}

Interesting Ed thanks. Just had to quickly read up who de Visser was but boy has he spotted some players! That wee bit closer to cracking who Ed002 is too 😁.

{Ed007's Note - 😂😂 No chance!}

ED I asked a while back if you had any further info on our scouting set up and if we had scouts worldwide? Or is it the case that Congerton is our only scout? Or does he have his own scouting team. I’ve never really understood how it works and couldn’t find a lot of information on the celtic staff in this department. Transfermarkt etc mention 3 scouts but that seems like a short few for a club our size?

Plus, we mention plans for a hotel etc. Why not invest more in our scouting set up first then push on with construction premises etc. I think we need to sort our footballing aspects out before any of that. But that’s just my opinion.

{Ed001's Note - the scouting set up is not that simple, you make a lot of use of freelance scouts. The 3 listed are just the permanent ones employed by the club to deal with an area. It is cheaper to just ask someone to take a look at a player on an as and when basis than to keep them contracted to the club.

Personally I agree with you though, a bit more investment in the scouting department could save millions with just one transfer, so it makes little sense to skimp there!}

Thanks ED much appreciated!

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate.}

Didn’t Chelsea sack Ranieri as well?

11 Apr 2019 05:22:00
The fact Chelsea sacked AVB wouldn't bother me. They go through them quickly and there's been some good ones.
