If Celtic are going to use analytics and data science then they need to get suitable people for the job.
The only people that really understand these mathematical models are people with a strong mathematical background like mathematician's and physicists. If you remember the money all story, it was a mathematician that devised their model.
{Ed007's Note - Moneyball is a load of pi$h, Joe, look at Liverpool while they used it, if it was that good a system why haven't Real Madrid or Man Utd or even Saudi teams pumped more money than anyone into it?
Data driven analysis is very common at every club, Tony Bloom gets credit as some revolutionary but Jamestown Analytics is basically an offshoot of his gambling companies, they don't have any data that isn't widely available.

If we are using data over scouting then more often than not we will sign duds.

Said this before, I can't believe we have no psychology team embedded throughout the squads. Germans and Italians been doing it for years based on Bruno Demichelis. He's really interesting guy to read about.

I get your point, but there's more to it. Moneyball isn't just about using data, it's about spotting value where others don't. Liverpool used it to find players like Mané and Firmino, who weren't big names but fit Klopp's system perfectly. Real Madrid and Man United don't need to use it the same way because they can afford to buy top players directly. They still use data, but their approach is different, they're after immediate star power, not necessarily value buys.
As for Tony Bloom and Jamestown Analytics, they're praised because they use data to spot undervalued players and make smarter decisions, even if the data isn't exclusive. The key is how consistently they apply it. It works for smaller clubs with limited budgets, but for the big spenders, Moneyball just isn't as necessary. Every club has its own model depending on what resources they've got.
The reason I brought it up is because a group of physicists are now working at Club BrBrugge doing their analytics to help them identify players.
{Ed001's Note - Klopp was not at Liverpool when Firmino was signed and Mane was signed because Klopp wanted him, not because of any analytics.}

We could use Football Manager to find talent. It has a fine reputation going back to the early 2000s for earmarking talent before they are established.
I mean i'm certain other clubs use the FM database to scout talent and let's be honest it can't be any less reliable than that clown tisdale and his team.

Fair enough ed 001 but my point still stands despite that inaccuracy.

Surely ed it must be mix, we get guys with good data go watch them, if that's way we work whoever watched the front players in summer needs glasses.

I would also use private investigators for the players we want to sign. They would follow the player around and see how they live their life way from football. For example are they out partying, do they like to drink alcohol, do they smoke.
