I was on Phil Coles bus a few times, many moons ago, used to also go to the Celtic Games with Stevie Kearney, a gentleman if ever there was one, he had Kearneys Newsagents at Whifflet, also Travelled with wee Hugo, who had a hairdressers at Calder St, and Gordon Canavan, great days watching Glasgow Celtic.

Gordon is still kicking about, he had a few boozers himself in Coatbridge and one of them was an Irish pub.
Phil Cole’s only run a mini bus now but at one time it one of the largest supporters clubs for years.

I have spoken to Gordon over the years at St Patrick's Church, we still talk about Celtic and it is good to see him.

Phil had a double decker with the pole at the back. Pensioners and weans would sometimes get free travel.

Are all you boys from Coatbridge? I was hearing Mass from St Pats during lockdown and when I went to confession when restrictions were lifted I told Fr Sweeney I’d been watching him from across the border in Airdrie. Some craic.

Kearney with a nose bigger than pinocchio? The best day at the whifflet was when we stopped Sevco doing 10 in a row. Traffic jams in all directions, Carsons shut, Mounted police, helicopter and not 1 bit of bother. It was like everybody from all over was down the whifflet that day.

I thought Carson’s got turned over that day.
Carson’s done the huddle at the roundabout, after they beat us at Ibrox to go top of the league by one goal with only 4 games to go.
The morning Celtic stopped the 10,I heard the pub was getting turned over win, lose or draw.

I phoned my mum to tell her.
She said you always looked after my gran when she stayed in Kirk Street because she was a single mum.
It will be a laugh the next time I see you.
