If we could get a couple of two decent defenders in, would anyone like us to go back to the favoured 3-5-2 of the Oneil era. We all know eddy doesn’t like to be up top on his own, kt pretty much play’s further forward anyway. No reason why he couldn’t go on the left of the 5, just need a couple of good centre backs to go with Ajer . The lad from Huddersfield looks ok when I’ve seen him, strong and quite quick. Also I probably wouldn’t have minded jagelika ( spelling) on a free. Good experience for Ajer .
When we were against the better teams from Europe we could then drop to a five when we were under pressure.

Personally I like the formation, it worked well for O'Neill but the main downside is it's too easy for the opposition to play a long diagonal and get in behind, hence why it's not used by a lot of teams these days. When that happens you rely upon the guys on the wing getting back to help defend.

There is no chance that Eddy will be converted into that role.

Surely one of the main benefits of trying that system would be to get someone else upfront with Eddy?

Thinking of the squad we have I think Lennon could experiment with a 3-5-2 in pre season. I'm sure he used it with hibs and tried to target Lustig with the diagonal when playing against us.

Team could look like

Bain

Tierney Benkovic Ajer

Shved McGregor Christie Ntcham Forrest

Bayo Eddy

Presumptive of Benkovic returning and new signings coming in could change the 11 but it would certainly be an attacking formation.

I was thinking of kt on the left as he has the engine to get back but we would need another centre back, from the clips I’ve seen of Shved I thought he played on the right or through the middle 🤷‍♂️. It would def give us the option of keeping eddy up with another though, and actually play two up top against the premier sides?

I'd say in the league KT in defence as we will never need 3 sitting back all the time, he and Benkovic, even Ajer all comfortable at bringing the ball out from the back and starting play, I'd definitely play him on the left in Europe. I've not seen any of Shved but not heard anyone say anything but good things about him. I'd guess him, Forrest and Sinclair could play both sides or off the front 2 if needed.

What does the 3 in a 3 5 2,mean?, why do you have a centre back playing as a full back?, why can't we have two full backs?, that can defend as full backs, and can support the attack when it's appropriate, and a centre half in the middle to defend who's main job is to defend, and a 'sweeper', who plays alongside or in front of the centrehalf, and is comfortable playing on left or right and has the ability to move forward a la' Beckenbauer, I just don't get this playing three at the back, unless it's two really good full backs and a centre half, but a really good full back and two centre Half's, no, no, no.

Did oneil not play 3-4-3?

I can’t see Kieran leaving until we do 10 or fail. He is still a pup and knows he will have many offers to play for richer clubs in better leagues. He will want to be a part of that and help us achieve it. Of that I have no doubt. If Lawell even tries to sell him before then he will be despised by every Celtic fan alive. He better know that.

Aindoh

3 central defenders, no full backs.

The formation can be played with wing backs which I'd expect in Europe or wingers who hog the touchline and look for crosses into the box.

The best example in our history would be O'Neills team with Mjallby, Balde and Valgaren at the back with Agathe and Petta as wing backs/ wingers.

Playing 3 at the back is murder.
Teams target it and it costs goals.
Just have to look has the mob used to use Løvenkrands to combat it.
