Wow! Think it was me who triggered this poll!

Nice to see diff views!

My view is you have to think like them (PL) there is a reason this has NOT been filled Dublin (DION), Wanyama 67, even big vinegar in the kitchen sink (95P a letter!) they ALL have an eye in the commercial allure of this, our great club

My only surprise was that they never asked G Hopper (88) to change his name by deed poll to HOOPS!

They KNOW folks they cannot leave this jersey for ever folks! that is for sure! So do we get a Juhinino, a Robbie Keane, or a potential HL?

Only time will tell bhoys, and then we will know THERE mindset! by who fills it

To those who say retire it FORGET it! for it is only the filling of it that we get to ask/remind them of its significance! They cannot leave it empty FOREVER we will not or should not let them!

Agreed mate. Everything seems to be about making money for Celtic nowadays, always through the cheapest possible method. The phrase "speculate to accumulate" doesn't quite register with Desmond, Lawwell, Bankier, etc. I still believe if we got Finnbogason last season, he'd be getting the #7 jersey this summer!

HB a enjoy reading your posts mate! your knowledge of players (unearthed) av never heard of pal

If the post of PH is not on S1 jobs yet take a donner down to London Road job centre they might have put in there FIRST just to save money! :-)

Cheers mate. One of the WC players I mentioned yesterday, (the oldest of the bunch) Graham Zusi didn't start for USA last night n I thought I was going to look like a bit of a mug. But low n behold, he came off the bench late in the 2nd half n within 10 mins crossed in the corner that proved decisive!

guys if we want another No7 star, where do we start to look.
At our budget, at the player, we should never retire the no 7. we call ourselves a team that plays exciting passing football, but guys on here want to retire this shirt No.
This is a shirt that our manager, our board and us as fans want filled by a player who deserves to wear it. We should strive to fill it every time .

Are people forgetting that it is a shirt number, filled by some great players, but a shirt number, nothing more.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree with you GJ, what difference does it make what number a player is wearing. Talk of retiring No 7 would just be a publicity stunt, next thing it will be retire No 12 in honour of the fans.

Is it time for Celtic to push the boat out financially for someone worthy of the iconic 'No.7.' jersey?

Yes (63%, 10 votes)

No (38%, 6 votes)

Total Votes: 16

If any of those 6 see this, can you answer me one thing - why wouldn't you want to see another legendary player wear the #7 jersey for Celtic?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Because you may be a Sevco supporter? (98%) or you are Balde or Pukki (2%)

Agree0 Disagree0

The #7 Jersey should be retired but if it is not I would like Ronny to settle into the job first before "pushing the boat out" on a new superstar. If Ronny identifies a class act then he will have the Boards Support. Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

@ 1, good point mate. I agree I want to see Ronny settle into the job, with his own people, and decide who he wishes to retain and who he wishes to move on before spending. But if his first signing could be a goalscorer of #7 calibre then I don't see why any Celtic fan wouldn't be a) excited; and b) delighted?!

Agree0 Disagree0

If it's young ambitious players from different / cheaper markets we're after or those who still have potential sell-on value then there's a few who are currently in Brazil we should be looking at. There's wingers like Sporting Kansas' Graham Zusi (27) or Andy Najar from Anderlecht, the Aussie GK Mat Ryan (22) who plays for Club Brugge, South Korea's big sturdy CB Kim Young-Gwon (24) who still plays in his homeland and Saprissa's Yeltsin Tejeda (22) who plays at DM. That would also have us tap in to the North, South + Central American, Oceanic and Asian markets which would be profitable in terms of marketing / merchandise!

HB your wasted on here get yer name in for Houstons Joab

Agree0 Disagree0

Been keeping my eye open for it on S1 Jobs but it's not came up yet!

Agree0 Disagree0

Nae chance, Hamilton bhoy let vidar orn kjartasson go after a trial and he's now top scorer in Norway with 13 in 13 and 4 assists

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on Hamilton Bhoy, I've noticed that a lot lately with the polls, there seems to be a lot of dubious votes.

Ed can the Walkers vote on our polls? if so could the polls be changed to celtic members only?

TamTimTic why should the #7 jersey be retired? We should be looking to bring in a player worthy of pulling it on, a marquee signing every couple of years wouldn't be too much to ask for,

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - As far as I know it's only registered users who can vote, there's no way of blocking individuals from voting.}

Ed i'm not asking to block individuals, I just think the polls would be more accurate if registered users can vote only for their nominated team.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Registered users don't have a nominated team, it registers you for all the sites.}

When has the no.7 jersey ever been worn by a superstar that the club paid a lot of money for?.

Agree0 Disagree0

The thing is money can't guarantee the player will live up to jersey! Money can buy talent but not effort and desire! And most players who could fill the jersey in the same way as our last iconic no 7 are well out our price range, I think the next no 7 will be out of no where but let's face it, it may be a while until we see another player like it?

Agree0 Disagree0

Whats a dubious vote?, one that differs from your own?

Agree0 Disagree0

@aindoh February to April 2010, Robbie Keane.
