I know its Hypothetical, however if we were to get into the EPL and you needed to buy 3 players to add to our team.

Lets just say our budget is £50m.

DF. MF, ST.

Who would you want.???

I'd buy Wanyama back.

Agree2 Disagree1

Keep van dyke. Modric type of player we lack. Peter crouch. He score for fun.

Agree1 Disagree1

Agree with Wanyama in MF
Ings ST free
DF between Godin/Garay/Varane depending on budget remaining

Agree0 Disagree0

James McCarthy

Agree0 Disagree0

Crouch? Doubt we'd have much change left after that one marty :/ John Park ain't so bad after all!

Agree1 Disagree0

Martybhoy - he doesn't score for fun as is!

Okay, 50 million to add to what we have.

Strong Centre Back:

RAPHAEL VARANE (20 million)

Powerful Holding Midfielder:

GRZEGORZ KRYCHOWIAK (15 million)

Number 9/Lone Striker:

YUSSUF POULSEN (15 million)

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry Kane (goals), Matic (gifted player and a beast), John Terry (still 1 o the finest defenders out there and just to teach Virgil better defending.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry Kane wouldn't be any better than Gordon (goals) . Terry would still be good at keeping players in the house at night, so that he wouldn't play with partners . Griffiths would have a problem with Terry as he couldn't watch all his partners at the one time .
Seriously we would be mad in the head having anything to do with Crouch or Terry, both players have there best days behind them and would only come to Celtic to enjoy a big pay year or two when nobody else would want them ( apart from America).

Agree0 Disagree0

Poetic, a tim mate of mine who stays in Germany keeps an aye on their second tier too and reckons that Poulsen is the, dare I use the term, "next Drogba". Avid watcher of the Bundesliga but not the 2nd flight but if my mate, and you (both seem to have a decent eye of the game) reckon he's good then perhaps he's worth a look. Watched a few clips on facetube and I like the look of the lad. If we're going for that type of striker I'd like Jurgen Locadia from PSV.

Agree0 Disagree0

James mcCarthy I would go for, john Terry, you having a laff, as slow as someone of his mature years might be expected to be, except he'been like that for the last too many years, for the rest I would scout and trawl the leagues of ireland, england and scotland, for young up and up and coming talent, or go for people like Mccormack or Scougal, rather than exotic mercenaries.

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be nice to be able to compete in the transfer market but even with huge amounts of cash I would rather it was spent on guys like McCarthy, Snodgrass, Robertson etc rather than the so called high profile foreign players in the EPL. All would play for the shirt and have experience of SPL

Agree0 Disagree0

-Jim

Yeah, he's full of potential. He's strong, has a few tricks, eye for goal and a real pace about him that a lot of big strikers lack. Infact, he's got the makings of a perfect lone striker. As your mate says, a Drogba type. I'm a big follower of the Bundesliga and Eredivisie, and there are players to be had there. I'm a huge fan of PM Lasogga (although he hasn't been quite so prolific this year) and Locadia definitely has something.

I know this thread was a bit of fun (which is why I chose Varane and Krychowiak) but players like Poulsen are who we should be looking at. Infact, I think Krychowiak went to Sevilla for little under 4 million, so there are opportunities out there to grab real talent. (Muhamed Bešić, for roughly same amount and he was a stand out for me in BH World Cup team)

Agree0 Disagree0

Chris you had a wee giggle ay my choices, good stuff mate we all like a laff. But then you took it too seriously, come on mate its a hypothetical question.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rayman . I didn't think I was getting too serious . Nobody should ever take anyone too serious on here, especially me .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I was going to mention not taking Craig Gordon serious but like Gordon trying to stop the first ball at St Johnstone's goal - I'll give it a miss!}

I'm one who has moaned about the board not splashing the cash on a top class striker in the past, but if JG was offered to us at £6m last summer and we purchased at that price would it have been good business?.

Hopefully the inter game will be the ideal opportunity for him to banish his drought in front of goal

Believable1 Unbelievable1

I hope if he does banish his goal famine it will be after he comes on after about an hour as I think Griffiths deserves to start .
Guidetti illustrates how difficult it is to find the correct striker . For two/three months we thought we had got the greatest thing since Larsson, since then we have great doubts about him . Having said that he played well on his last start . I don't think we can or should be spending £6 m on any player at the moment .

Agree2 Disagree1

No. But then again he's probably never been worth that. And he's a free in the summer but I know it's a hypothetical question.

Not sure what to say about Guidetti. I wanted us to sign him. Like actually wanted, as in i've auggested him in windows before. And it's not often a suggestion like that materialises. It was though, based on one spell with Feyenoord. But he has shown what he is capable of. It's all about RD and JC getting it out of him regularly. Was smug as a cheshire cat the way he started the season. Ever since his hat trick comments though he seems to have lost whatever he had. Then I guess i've also been frustrated that during Guidetti's slump, Scepovic, who is our player, hasn't been given a fair chance. Ultimately I guess the faith has to be in RD, he sees the players all the time in training and as I said, Guidetti has shown what he can do before it's about doing it again now. I'd just hate us to upset Scepovic and miss out on developing him for Guidetti to turn around and tell us where to go in the summer. That's my biggest fear.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think it's a fair point. Take it one step further, if they had option to sign JG for that price at the peak of his form this season, would that look like bad business now?

The truth is, a fee doesn't guarantee you anything. As well as which, you can't really win. If you buy a £6m striker, and he flops - it's poor outlay - but if he succeeds and tears up division, it's expected. (I'd still take that though!)

Take Flo. Often held up as a mammoth flop. Actually, he was extremely prolific up here - and he sold for quite a lot of money (admittedly a loss) which meant their outlay in fees was about 4m. Value for money.

I think a few posters, and Ed repeatedly, have spoken about their preference that the board would be more competitive with the wage structure as opposed to spending ludicrous fees on players.

I really like JG - I still want to sign him - but I agree, if they had paid that, there would be a lot of disgruntled fans saying it was a waste. The same fans who still talk about AF!

Agree0 Disagree0

I actually think Pukki is probably a better option than Guidetti provided he plays alongside Griffiths. The two would work well under the current system and it would free up the Guidetti funds for further strengthening. Probably not everyones cup of tea, but I thought Pukki made a lot of decent runs, and just needed a finisher beside him. 5 goals in 10 starts for Brondby. Just saying!

Agree1 Disagree1

I was one of the few fans on forums who didn't spend a season or more finding fault with our board for not signing Finnbogason.
The fact is that paying millions for any striker is very risky and we proved there is value for money when we signed L Griffiths .

I'm a bit sick of reading post about Rangers on here! Why do u care? They were our auld enemy but we are in different leagues and at opposite ends of the spectrum in where we are going! Take the higher ground and focus on our team it's just pettiness

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - That's why we have a different section for them but if it's something relevant I'll still stick it on the banter page. Most discussions about them go on that section. I rarely read anything about them that hasn't been brought to my attention, unless it's funny the whole cesspit bores me mate, you have no idea.}

SOS I reckon the whole of Scotland are bored by this story now! Let them worry about thier problems and we can concentrate on 'big team' problems like who to play in the EC knock out stages!
To be fair - the banter on here is funny as feck!

I think it's past funny tho! Why does every thing that goes on over there need to be ridiculed? It's been a good few years now and still every time they get beat I read it on here why discuss a team that has nothing to do with us on a regular basis?

Agree0 Disagree1

Just as at home if a neighbour fell on hard times and died, I would still talk about his widow's new man . Same house different "marriages" team .

Agree0 Disagree0

It's because the entire Scottish media cannot report on Celtic without - in the same sentence - mention the new team from Govan.
It's the same every day and today they have offered Inter the use of the Milngavie training complex.
If this was reversed we would be the arch enemy of Scottish football.

Agree2 Disagree0

I don't know your age mate but those of us who suffered during our own troubles are revelling in the mess they are in, and will never tire of mocking them.

Agree3 Disagree0

Green jhedi I'm of that age and I can't tell you how much I am enjoying every minute of their woes, please don't let it end.killy.

Agree2 Disagree0

Ok so it's age over a mature point of view?lol we are all grown adults and revelling at something that has been going on the last few years its boring! I am probably younger in age but taking the higher ground and letting bitterness go doesn't obviously help with age eh? We are well beyond them and that's not going to change unless someone throws massive amounts of cash their way so how about we let them suffer without giving them as much press on here as in the papers?

Agree0 Disagree2

Have to say I am with you on that one GJ. I get more pleasure out of it because of the way they went into admin and did not pay all the little guys. Then, within weeks, they are buying players and not giving a toss about the damage they have done. Karma can be a very satisfying thing.

Agree2 Disagree0

For people who are sick of reading posts about Rangers you seem to have generated a lot of posts about Rangers? :-)

Agree1 Disagree0

@Foxy, its called having a different opinion lol.
