What's your thoughts friends on signing James McLean? Good enough for Celtic?

{Ed007's Note - I'd take him to compete with Sinclair on the left no probs, the guy would run through a brick wall for the Club and the support plus it would be worth it just for the reaction of Ibrox Klan and the media.}

Agree8 Disagree4

18 Dec 2017 20:35:06
He would be a great signing.

18 Dec 2017 20:40:02
Sinclair definitely needs someone breathing down his neck, anyone who wants to play for us that much and has the ability should be given serious consideration. I'd love it if he signed just to see the hun media going into hyperventilation.

18 Dec 2017 20:14:47
Agreed 100% Ed! And he's in print as saying 'He'd give anything to play for Celtic'. Bring the the Derry Bhoy Home!

{Ed007's Note - He's not going to win us the CL but he's a good solid performer and could more than do a job up here anywhere on the left hand side, even covering for KT. When people talk about experience that's the kind of player I think of, played in England for years and been to international tournaments yet still only in their late 20s. I it's going to happen though I hope it happens soon as I wouldn't want him uo here when he's 32 looking for an easy ride and big pay cheque.}

18 Dec 2017 20:59:43
Agreed again Ed. No last pay day pish. If you want to come to us-come just now. And I think he would. The Huns and the Scottish Media would have a field day though! ☘️.

{Ed007's Note - And stuff being his postman if he moves up here!}

18 Dec 2017 21:04:28
What sort of money do you think it would take to get him to paradise and do you think the club would go for it?

{Ed007's Note - He's contracted to West Brom until 2019 with a years option so I reckon it wouldn't be be too expensive considering WBA only paid £1.5/2 million for him. If he was available I don't see why the Club wouldn't be interested if Rodgers wanted him. I'm convinced he signed Hayes because he knew he was Celtic daft so why not McClean - you know a supporter will go that extra mile.
On the other hand it's the EPL and WBA could ask for £10 million and there would be someone down there who would pay it.}

18 Dec 2017 21:45:48
That gave me a chuckle Ed! 😂 If you gave me the options of being (a) James McLeans postman or (b) Neil Lennon's postman or (c) unemployment in Scotland I'd need to take the safe option Ed and stop work. View seems to be sign how tthough albeit with the aforementioned provisos ie no easy last pay day etc. come now.

18 Dec 2017 22:26:13
Decent enough player, I would be happy with that.

18 Dec 2017 22:43:23
He doesn't strike me as the kean type that just wants to tick it off his bucket list, I reckon if he'd signed 5 years ago he'd have finished his career wae us, he talks like we're the only club he's ever wanted to sign for and I believe every bit of it. Get him in.

19 Dec 2017 01:31:18
be great to see him playing against the manky mob at ibrox jfp.

19 Dec 2017 09:13:03
I would enjoy Seeing Maclean and McCarthy in the Celtic team that seals 10 in a row.

19 Dec 2017 11:36:10
I don't think he has the level of ability we need to move forward. I think the board will be acutely aware of the focus that will be brought on us. It's no secret the board cringe every time the Rebs get sung and this would be a open goal for the press and take the focus off the team.

A song about him being a Provo sniper or some other bullshit would be sung from the first away game and I don't want that.

I know a lot of fans think singing songs the Irish don't even sing at internationals is an announcement of our love for the 'cause'. I don't.

I just don't see why the Irish can let it go, but we can't. It gives equivalency to the bile from the Huns. I have said before, if you have a political position then pursue it. But, do it more than just an away day wind up.

Singing of a willingness to fill a holster, yet unwilling to turn out for a republican March tells me everything I need to know about their commitment.

Mclean is a big no for me. He isn't good enough and the baggage he would bring, ensures he will never play for us.

A non starter. You need to ask yourself.

Why would a board, who continually ask the away support to cut out songs about the Provos, sign a player who would add fuel to that fire?

It isn't going to happen. I never got the let's noise up the Huns argument. If they want to act with a foot in 1690 let them. Especially when that support goes no further than belting out a set of tunes

As Billy Bragg said in a song about the country in the Thatcher era. Wearing badges is not enough. Neither is singing songs at a fitba game.

{Ed007's Note - F**k Billy Bragg! You do know he voluntarily signed up for the British Army under Thatcher don't you? What badges was he hiding behind then?
Most people have spoke about McClean's ability yet you choose to put more importance on his political beliefs which says a lot more about you than him, is it OK with you to have Bitton at the Club? Who are you worried about upsetting, TRIFC and the media? Who are they to judge anyone? If you want to keep politics out of football why are you concentrating on it here?
Have you ever been in a pub with Ireland supporters, I think you might get a surprise with the songs they sing, it's the same ones the Irish team have played on the team bus for years, ask Matt Holland about it.
I'd sign McClean just to piss off all the panty wetters in our own support and get The Wolfe Tones back playing at Celtic Park when we announce it.}

19 Dec 2017 12:13:30
I stated he isn't good enough as a player. As for the political aspect are you denying the future that would cause? Are you suggesting we might come out if it looking good?

Ok you don't care about that. You and your dry pants can cope with that. Fine.

The fact is this love of the cause is tainted by the fact they don't turn out for marches. Whose pants are wet there?

What's their problem? Ok to sing the songs with gusto yet not enough to march?

As for Bitton? I won't blame a player for the actions of the country they come from. How moronic would that be?

I don't have a problem with Mcleans political
stand. That took balls. Singing about the Ra at away games only requires you know the song. It's on a par with thoughts and prayers when a disaster hits.

Fecking useless and hollow.

You seem to want us stuck in the 70's. A lot of us don't. Especially when all these hard core rebs are like snow aff a dyke when the Republucans March.

That's my problem. They use only Celtic games to show their undying belief in the cause.

I want to hear Celtic songs, of which we have plenty. What's wrong with that?

{Ed007's Note - What's any of that got to do with James McClean? Absolutely hee-haw and you're trying to use it to have a pop at Celtic fans. How do you know that supporters that sing those songs don't go to marches, how many have you asked? Over the years I've met plenty of people at Celtic games that I met at marches & other Republican events and vice versa, people at marches that sat around about me at Celtic Park or in the pubs around the stadium, I've even been to marches with a few players throughout the years.
Nir Bitton spent two years and eight months serving in the IDF, who's fault is that?
I was only born in 1974 so I have no idea what it was like in the 70's but 40 years later the fans are still singing some of the same songs and I'm delighted people like you have a problem with that, who made you king to tell people what they can and can't do? And again, how do you know 'They use only Celtic games to show their undying belief in the cause.' who have you asked about this, how many people did you ask?}

19 Dec 2017 13:12:19
I see the republican marches. Never more than a couple of hundred. That's where.

{Ed007's Note - Well there you go, probably the Green Brigade.}
