49 years to the very day Celtic Football Club were the first British team to win the European Cup. This anniversary must never be forgotten, on here or in Scotland.
Cannot wait until number 50 comes up.
"John you are IMMORTAL" (words of an ex Liverpool manager, how ironic on this anniversary we have another ex Liverpool manager to guide us in Europe)
Simpson, Craig and Gemmell, Murdoch, Mcneil and Clark, Johnstone, Wallace, Chalmers, Auld and Lennox.
God bless the Lisbon Lions and Big Jock Stein. HAIL HAIL.

Well said Tim alloy especially when you think that it was 11 players within a 10-12 mile radius we set the standards and gave everyone in Britain the hope of achieving what the hoops had accomplished more than just a club hail hail.

Not all the lions where from 10-12 miles from Parkhead.

Greatest ever Celtic team and each one not only a fantastic player but true Celtic men any gentleman. I always mind meeting Jinky outside a wee miners club (was off school and out with my dad in the truck on his work deliveries) and he's like that's Jinky Johnstone and I was like, no way and he said it is you should ask 4 his autograph, when I did Jinky was like sure son, still treasure that moment as it was an honour. Big billy met at seamill hydro, lovely genuine guy and he allowed so much access to the team at the time to fans there, mcstay, Elliott, white, miller etc etc both times I was probably between 12 and 14, the lion's will forever be cherished by those who saw them play and those who know the history of these great men. Hail hail.

Totally agree with you. It wasn't just the best Celtic team, but the most down to earth, humble gents you could meet.
I was 11 when I watched the Lisbon final on TV and was lucky enough to meet most of them at supporters rallies, award nights or outside the stadium on match days.
Bobby Lennox was out jogging around Saltcoates during a close-season and stopped to chat and sign my sweetie cigarette box. Big Billy, Tommy Gemmell and Bertie Auld were also good humoured and generous with their time.
Others were modest, polite and appreciative of the esteem we held this unique group of legends.
I consider myself very fortunate to have seen them.

I've met a few of the lions at functions n stuff and always felt they had the patience and time to talk to me, even though they must've answered the same questions over and over again. Got to say though that they should've in my opinion been paid a wage from celtic for a lifetime for their achievements. What would it have cost in the grand scheme of things? Boringigtors wage or a fraction of it.

Agree stephboy 4 all they've done for the club and Scotland too, after all they put us and England on the map and at that time certainly changed the course of European football as well as showed others how football should be played, attack attack attack. I'm not old enough to have seen them live in the flesh, I'm 36, but I have watched everything Celtic you can get your hands on and I mind treasuring the original the Celtic story on video that my Dad has, still got it to this day, and watching the greatest ever team in my opinion, not just Celtic team, still makes me feel how special I did that first time I ever watched the final against inter, that to support and be brought up critic was something special and the lion's were a big part of that. I think Celtic should have had every one of them as ambassadors for the club on a wage and really thanked them, after all I can't think of a player since that deserves to be paid more than them or deserves to be rated as worth more in this overpaid overprotected modern game, there are a number of truly great players at various clubs now and over the years but the lion's for me were just special, could be as my dad was such a big fan of them. Hail hail.
