Time for a wee bit speculation.

Everton are reportedly targeting Virgil as Stones replacement. Now I really rate Stones. But Everton have rejected a £30m bid and supposedly want £40m. Now, ignoring the inflated market of young English players, there clearly is a measurement to work off there. If Stones is worth £40m, how much do people thing Virgil is worth!?

£6m with the other guy about £8m.

We will probably get about £8m

Not sure what price i'd put on Virgils head but i'd be unhappy if he was sold for anything less than £10m.

Oh how I wish we had a fit John Kennedy, He was Captain material after just a few games.

I'd be miffed to get less than £10m. We've seen worse prospects go for more. He needs a good CL qualifiers to really show he might be worth the money though admittedly. Hasn't been great in Europe.

My point was more to do with is there scope for exploiting Everton. If they have £40m in their pocket is it too much to ask 15, maybe even £20m? If Virgil went for £10m, is Stones really FOUR times a more valuable asset?

I'm not happy with the way we reinvest. I think, in order to leave the board with absolutely no excuses of significant investment, we're depending on either:

a) CL money (PL even said we don't budget ourselves on it);

b) A transfer fee recieved that may raise a few eyebrows of those that maybe say Virgil is worth £6m.

I just hope that we negotiate something which is fair. And by fair I mean that the buying club acknowledge some sort of scale as to what players are 'worth' to other clubs.

In all, if Everton sell Stones for £40, I think we should be asking £15-20m. It sounds crazy, but it's not us with the crazy money at disposal.

if they deem vvd as good enough to replace a 40million player then we charge them 40million . I don't want to hear stuff that make us look like happy to get scraps off the epl table if a team from the so called best league in the world want our players then they pay best league prices or go elsewhwere

25 Jul 2015 14:06:47
Everyone needs to take their green tinted specs off. VVD cannot get into the Dutch Squad never mind the team, There is not a queue of teams lining up to buy him. Are all these managers wrong or is there a fault we do not see or is the quality in Scottish opposition so poor that he only looks good in the SPFL. After all he has shown nothing in Europe. The Icelanders walked through our defence on Wednesday, next week is not just a huge game for Celtic but also VVD and RD as a failure to beat Qarabag could see an end to our season before it has even started

25 Jul 2015 14:25:22
Going by the logic above then we should have paid 12 million for Biton (to replace Wanyama) and 5 million for Pukki (to replace Hooper).

We will get the going rate for VVD and as others have said that should be around the 10 million mark. Ask for more than that and we run the risk of him not being sold at all this summer and getting half the 10 million next summer.

We can then invest the full 10 million as promised on that 6 million pound player Ed007 keeps telling us we were promised and then 4 million on four 1 million pound projects like Balde!

Think there's a few on here need a reality check by the way! 15-20 million for VVD! U havin a laugh? He's been found out on the European stage on more than one occasion! And the Icelandic part timers walked through our defence as if it wasn't there on wed nite! Yes the EPL prices are obscene, and 30 million pound for a young boy who's been in the first team for a season is outrageous! But there's no chance that VVD is going for more than 10 million! We'll be lucky to get 8! Personally I preferred denayer over him! Bit of a reality check is needed I think! Decent player that he is,he ain't no superstar! And he's nowhere near wanyamas level!

dh88 ,whether you think he's worth it isn't the point.if you've got an asset somebody(and quite a few want him) wants you go for the highest price you can squeeze out ,everton have set the precedent by asking 40m for the guy they want vvd to replce so we/celtic should use that figure as our initial selling price , jf someone offered you 10k for a car worth 2k would you point that out to him and let him drop his offer accordingly

Have to remember as well Groningen have got a 20% clause in his contract, so we sell him for £10M(Which I have my doubts about but would be delighted at that sort of fee)then we'll need to give £2M of that straight away.

The simple fact is the the EPL is floating on cash injections from sponsors etc. the SPL is not. We are a massive club with poor cash injections from those who sponsor etc (in comparison to relation to EPL, Bundesliga, Seria etc.) English clubs are throwing money at the less well off and buying, not only the smaller club assets but weakening any potential opposition from them. The big clubs treat us the same way, we need additional cash so we have limitations on how long we can hold out and demand cash for good players before we risk losing them on Bosmans. I don't like it but it is reality. Ed is spot on about FFFP. it's a well intended farce.
