Johnbhoy71 asked good questions about what if Rangers qualify for the CL next season and what effect it might have on us. Can they still qualify and did that mean that revenue was therefor split 50/ 50?

They "can" still reach it J' but I think it would be two qualifying games and not one.

Feel free to add or correct me if I'm wrong as I am no expert on the CL finances break down.

The split of cash is a little more complex. For a start, is it really £40m? Or is the £40m the max that can be made from the group stages if we win all the games and finish top of the group? If they make it into the group stage with us then it will not be split 50/ 50 so that we get £20m each. Both teams would get the initial fee just for entering, both teams would get the gate receipts for 3 home games, both teams would earn extra cash from their results, both teams would get cash for their league position - these (and a few other things) would be revenue totally independent of each other. What would be affected would be the TV revenue. Again, this might be further complicated by who is actually in your group. I am not exactly sure how it works (perhaps Ed might know) but I am under the impression that if Celtic were to draw and English, Spanish and German team in their group and Rangers get a Croatian, Bulgarian and Swedish then Celtic would create more TV revenue, just by virtue of playing bigger "pullers". Now, I'm not sure if each team keeps their own generated TV money or if it is pooled and the TV money is split evenly between both Scottish teams. I think it is the former.

So, assuming both teams win all their games and finish top of their leagues then they might get $35m instead of the £40m because of the TV revenue drop?

Anyone know for sure?

I don’t know for sure StubbsiesHorse.
I think you are on the right track though.
If both clubs qualify for the CL group stages, I would expect both clubs to get at least £35 million each.
I’m guessing £35 million with the breakdown examples you have given above and because they would split the Champions League TV revenue for Scotland.
I’m not sure with the non involvement of Russian clubs,
Whether the Scottish Premiership runners-up will enter the 2nd qualifying round of the League Path ( 2 clubs qualify from 11 clubs ) OR
They will enter at the 3rd qualifying round ( 2 clubs qualify from 8 clubs ) .
It would normally be extremely hard for a Scottish Club to qualify through the league path because it involves the clubs which finish 3rd in France and Portugal.
But it will be made easier with no Russian clubs and possibly no Ukraine clubs.

Thanks BB - it is a wee bit complicated for sure.
