Anyone else think Scott Allan could do a job for us in midfield? Lots of potential, would be some player in my opinion if he matures in a similar fashion to Scott Brown.

CW-88 I have been saying this for months , the only issue is that he is similar to Johanson & brown. Where would we fit him in,along with Armstrong and biton to boot.

Thoughts?

Also been thinking this for months, with the same reservations. He could have Commons' role, I think.

20 May 2015 22:56:04
What about moving Johanson forward and fit in Allan?

Agree1 Disagree0

20 May 2015 23:25:13
Agreed I don't think he would be a starter straight away as our midfield has been really good this season. Moving forward I would prefer to see Armstrong and Johanson further forward where they are more of a threat, with Brown and Biton sitting. Initially use Allan as cover for those two. Similar to Brown when he joined us I would convert his attributes into becoming a ball winning midfielder. From what I saw of him at Dundee Utd and Scotland youth I would say at the time he was the best young player in Scotland before he went to West Brom. I was surprised he didn't do better down south to be honest but he is miles ahead of playing in the championship.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 May 2015 09:38:02
The few-several times i've seen hibs this season he's been their stand out every time. Does in ways remind me of a young Brown. Influential and a powerful runner. If we say Johansen, Armstrong and Commons are competing for CAM, then at CM we could have Brown, Bitton, Allan and Henderson? Allan would be decent versatile cover but at the same time i'd like to see a defensive powerhouse in the mould of Wanyama in there.

Know where you're coming from JimTim. If I could choose one player to come back who left us in the last 5 years it would be big Vic. He was a player that others hated coming up against due to his brute strength and power, especially in Europe.

21 May 2015 11:59:58
I would like to think RD or the Scouting team have at least looked at this player ( allan ).

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2015 12:29:21
@CW-88 I agree at European level we miss that bit extra muscle and protection to the defence. Wanyama us different class though he doesn't just bring that but was a threat driving forward too. I'd go as far as saying I don't think he could be replaced for the money we got.

ED007 I am sure you will join in with myself and all other Celtic supporters in congratulating Craig Gordon in winning the footballers writers player of the year lol

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed007's Note - I predicted the other week that he was a stick on for the tea and sympathy vote. It just shows again how lousy the Scottish sports hacks are at their job.}

20 May 2015 22:06:32
We get it Ed, no matter what this player does it'll only be the negatives which will be over scrutinised.
In terms of goal keeper, should we have played zaluska if we weren't prepared to spend money? If so, based on his erratic performances throughout his career with Celtic where would we be this season?
Was at game on Friday night and although he pulled off decent saves, his decision making with dealing with ball out to players was amateur. Players and fans were hands inheads throughout.

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed007's Note - Did you have a nice time up in Perth? I'll be honest, I didn't notice any blunders from Zaluska to compare to any the mistakes CG has made that has cost us wins, £ and probably a trophy this season, and I was too busy watching the game to see if any fans had their head in their hands and I never seen any of the players on the park doing it either, well not in regards to Zaluska. How do you know it wasn't a mass outbreak of migraines?
I'm sure all the supporters are pleased to know that you're there keeping an eye on them at games - I know I feel a lot safer.}

20 May 2015 22:39:26
Hahaha. Oh ed! But that's right on the money.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 May 2015 22:58:27
that would've been the nightmare scenario for some people,griffiths to get the players player of the year and gordon to get the writers player of the year.

21 May 2015 01:39:22
Ed007 are you not going to congraluate Rayman on his quest for a Craig Gordon calendar, now that it is a certainty seeing as Gordon has won award? Lol

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - A CG calender sponsored by ATOS! I thought Rayman would have been on gloating right away but he probably knows it's a pointless award, who cares what the press think?}

21 May 2015 09:40:25
CG has cost us big time on 3 occasions. And that's a fair critique. He's had some decent performances but given tje way he's come along I have to agree it's a bit of a sympathy vote. Hopefully he only gets a bit sharper and confident with that first season behind him.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 May 2015 13:09:19
Jim and ED yes of course he has cost us, especially against Inter and Calley but he has been a great replacement for Forster and I think after getting that first proper season behind him he will only get better. I would say on the other side of the Inter game if it wasn't for Gordon we would not have got out of the group stage and I would then feel that this was a bit of a poor season for the team and Ronnie. Looking forward to see the comings and goings in the next couple of months but I do see us getting a lot stronger. Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - So how can a player who cost his team so much in the most important games of their season possibly warrant winning any POTY award?}

21 May 2015 14:40:17
The poty point is one that's always up for discussion. I have no prob with cg winning it. I would have no prob with biton vvd denayer johanson or brown winning it. All have contributed to a fairly decent season. But just for clarity as I am a tad slow. No one is seriously suggesting that zaluska should be our number one ahead of Craig Gordon are they.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - I've no problem with CG winning the award he did, if anything it just shows again how clueless the Scottish sports hacks actually are. I remember when I was 6 or 7 and had a hernia op my mam bought me a Snowspeeder from The Empire Strikes Back because she felt sorry for me and I had been a brave wee soldier.}

21 May 2015 15:10:22
Are we not missing a point with cg though. 10/15 years ago old titanium legs put his name to a training ground that would be a conveyor belt of talent 15 years later Murray park has its first ever player of the year. Kind of like your garden shed ed stolen from under noses of the hated deceased neighbours. And to see how much it winds up that wee fat baw bag Goram makes the award all the sweeter.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - And the shed's in as good a nick as CG is but it'll be on the bonfire later this year. Hopefully I'm not staring at my burning stolen hut cursing CG for costing us CL football again, that would really upset sportswriter Goram.}

21 May 2015 15:27:38
Soz guys just back from Vegas.They were holding a big awards event in MGM with Kanye Rhianna Beyoncé et al, I thought to myself wow all this for Craig Gordon boy he has done good lol.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Welcome back mate, I forgot you said you were going away.}

21 May 2015 15:39:20
Craig Gordon over the season has blown hot and cold for me. It's clear to see from a neutral perspective that some of his biggest blunders lost very important matches for us. I'm not his greatest fan but I do recognise there is a potential for him to do so much better next season if he can work on his shot parrying and crosses. Good luck to the lad for winning the Sports writers player of the year but I wouldn't give most of the sports writers doing the rounds these days the steam off my proverbial.
My worry with Gordon is his tendency to be made of glass. He got away with it this season relatively injury free but if he was to go down with a biggie next season we need decent cover in goal. With Zaluska probably off during the summer the emphasis will fall on young Fasan to be good enough to step up not just as deputy but challenger for the keeper's position in the first team. Gordon needs the chase to make him work on his weaknesses.

Think it's time we got rid of stokes he is a very average player and is a constant embarrassment to the club, I'm surprised pl hasn't chased him already.

I think he is better than average on his day but I do agree with you fab its time we got rid

22 May 2015 21:45:29
Fab 1 . PL. is unlikely to want to chase any player, that he could get a transfer fee for, out of Celtic . Obviously you don't hold the popular view ,that Lawwell is a shrewd negotiator when selling players .
Fab1 , I would be very disappointed if it was up to PL to decide what player(s) should leave Celtic . I would hope that where Celtic have an option Deila should be the man with the final say.

Football bets for tonight in the playoff game at Ibrox are a penalty awarded 9/4, a player ordered off 11/4, under 10 corners, to score in 90 minutes Jason Cummings (Hibs) 2/1 (let's see how close I get to all 4)

Believable0 Unbelievable6

20 May 2015 15:58:05
Gone for a pen myself but @ 11/4. You seem to do well with the pens. Rangers are bound to get one too.

Grouped score Rangers 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 @ 9/4

Anytime scorer Vuckic @ 7/4

Lets see if I manage to get any!

Is it just me who's thinkin why use are bothering your arse betting on a sevco game? The only time I've ever done it is to bet the other team to hump them! Can't say I've ever backed one of there mob to be 1st goalscorer! Very strange!

20 May 2015 16:52:42
It's a bet. On football, not the club. Be 15 quid happily lost of they lose.

20 May 2015 16:54:12
@Wiss67 although I personally do not bet FOR Sevco, I do different bets in their games like BTTS, a penalty etc I have no problem with people like Jimtim betting his way, in betting you bet with your head, NOT your heart, and if it makes us a few quid along the way so much the better.

20 May 2015 17:59:07
Am not havin a go lads! Just thought it was a wee bit strange lol.wouldnt ever bet on them to win or any of there players to score,maybe it just me! Each to there own but I guess! Hope hibs hump them but haha!

Agree0 Disagree0

20 May 2015 19:11:51
@wiss67 nothing wrong with bets involving that mob. I bet you select them on your coupon if either team looks a cert to win cause its all about making £

Agree0 Disagree0

20 May 2015 20:50:06
Dont think so pal!! I've never put them on any coupon,and I never will! And the pleasure watching that mob get gubbed is worth more than £££ personally I couldn't stomach winnin any coupon we're I needed that shower of shite to win!

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - I agree with you, Wiss, I can't even stomach taking them to win if they're in the weekly correct score competition Ed003 runs for the sites. If they're in there I take them to lose 19-0.}

20 May 2015 21:59:19
Your spot on ED! I just can't imagine sittin waitin on my coupon to come up,all the teams are winnin but that mob are drawin and I'm needin them to win to get my coupon up!! Even the thought of it makes my stomach churn! Not for me I'm afraid! Rather be a skint tim than one who wins a bet on they ratbags!! Lol

So from what I hear we a seriously looking at the boy Alireza jahanbakhsh (RW) which would be good as we can put Armstrong to CM/CAM where I think he will be more effectve and is also strenghening our midfield. Very good scoreing and assist (as menitoned below, COULD be an exiting player! Danny Wilson for CB who I think would be a decent additon, not ready made for 1st team, but has potential! The LB Mitchell Dijks seems impressive from what I've been reading. strong, quick and can fill in at CB, rated highly by a number of Dutch cats and a few teams alos interested in him - I certainly prefer him to the ex Dundee Utd lad Douglas. The ST from Elche also looks promising, scored a lot of goals for a side bottom end of La Liga which is not easy (remember Sepovic was doing it in the league below) but TBH any striker we go for is going to be a shot in the dark, but again boy has potential, read today Sevilla may also be interested in him mind. Anyway I thionk if we could get all these players in early we would be looking pretty good. VVD leaving would obviously call for another CB (maybe even 2) but would be very happy Bhoy if we managed to get these guys in, wondering if anyone disagrees?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

20 May 2015 14:54:37
Was impressed with the iranian lad first time we were linked. Great record. Looks decent defensively too, works hard. If we had him, GMS, Somebody else and Forrest competing for the wide positions in the 'three' then i'd be happy. As you say that means Armstrong can be back up to Johansen in CAM and the midfield looks stronger. Commons can fill in any gaps if needed.

Jonathas I think would be a good addition too. If we're going to spend four million i'd rather do it on him than on Anya. Think most on here could name better prospects for that sort of money though. People mentioning players like Kramer, Youssouf Poulsen and even a swap deal for Finnbogason again.

I prefer the look of Douglas though. Dijks physicality would be handy in that position and he's technically sound, most Ajax kids are. At 22 he's a decent prospect. Think his manager was drumming him up a bit. Saying he's second only to Willems in the Netherlands. There's a few LBs in the Eredevisie i'd go for ahead of him but hey, who am I. Douglas' stats though don't lie and I think he has more to offer but Dijks ain't a bad prospect no and we're in need of competition at LB. Strange RD saying we'll see more of Tierney though yet being in for a LB. Tierney was a winger in the youths so maybe he'll get in between the two now and again. Or is Izzy off?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2015 11:38:46
I have obviously been reading the same articles as you in regards to Dijks and think that what's been interesting me. If I'm beiong honest I don't know a lot about the lad Douglas other than he played Dundee Utd, moved to Lech Poznan (not exactly a Giant of a club) who are only looking for a tiny amount for his transfer. just sounds very average is there somthing I'm missing?

Hats off to the Celtic players who have completed 61 games domestically and in Europe one of two teams to have done so this year. It's quite obvious that the team is fitter and leaner since RD took over. Hopefully some quality players can be added to that for us to make a serious challenge on Europe next season. Domestically I have no fears about the team.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

21 May 2015 00:03:16
it would be interesting to see how many players actually played 61 games, as for being fitter and leaner ,in the last few games there were people remarking that the team looked tired.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 May 2015 21:49:32
Aindoh, u are right , I wonder if any Celtic player has played 61 games , solely from memory I don't think any of them have . Izzy probably has played the most
probably 58/59.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 May 2015 13:22:24
We all know that in probably every transfer window we buy players who don't do a job for Celtic . I think many other clubs do the same and sometimes spend very big money . Is the problem with Celtic our attempts to fill to many positions in the one window . We usually sign one or two that can come to Celtic Park adopt to the big club mentality and perform well.
Maybe we should leave it like that instead of chasing, after others often until the day the window closes, only to sign players who are rarely good enough . Maybe haven't signed a player or two for our key ( needed) positions we could cover the other areas by promoting from within . Our own youngsters would certainly be better than Balde Pukki and the Frid.

i have been thinking on the possible transfers of Boyata and Wilson
Like most my first reaction was no we can do better then I thought further who would you prefer in CL qualifying Ambrose or Wilson paired wih VVD then I considered that if Mulgrew was to play CD as he did when he was POY what type of defender would I like to see him paired with and I believe he works best with a tall aggressive attacking the ball centre like Boyata.
This could give us two pairs of defenders and if VVD was to leave after we had qualified then Denayer might be prepared to return if he was not in con tention at city

Boyata is a bit of a bombscare like Ambrose.

21 May 2015 23:51:34
I have never been one to judge a player based on some youtube footage. But I have to say,Boyata's highlights reveal a player who is not at all comfortable on the ball,nervous in possesion and treats the ball like a very very hot tattie.Have to say I am worried about this one.It's been a luxury and a real pleasure watching Denayer and VVD help us keep possesion and build our possesion patiently whilst having pace and strenghth in their defensive locker.Its shows these players are out there. just hope Ronny agrees.
