Lots of other games have seen some experienced big guns really struggle. Celtic result ( relative to most others ) looks pretty solid. Most ties are level or one goal in it other than Celtic and Molde. The "minnows" are definitely improving across Europe. When teams from Luxembourg Malta and Gibraltar are alive and kicking it shows how landslide victories are something of a anomaly these days

Inter Milan beat that team 9 nil not even a year ago mate!

I am talking about the 2nd round qualifying results mainly

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 23:34:43
And I think the term anomaly covers the 9-0 scenario LOl

Also the 9-0 flattered inter as the Icelanders were all over them and conceded all goals against the run of okay

Agree0 Disagree2

15 Jul 2015 23:42:23
Just pointing out that inter, who I didn't think were up to much gubbed them bud.think it's always a struggle this early in the season, some of the players will still be on holiday mode.would have liked a few more goals to make next week more comfortable, but I think we'll get a wee early goal over there to put it to bed! Still worry about the next couple of rounds but.like I said in another post, izzy really worries me at lb,and teams no that he's the weak part in that defence! Really thought another lb would have been a priority for RD

Having watched the game on celtic tv in a pub,it was obvious to me that Celtic don't need astriker or centre half they need a creative midfield player, and am I the only one that thinks playing one up is like the emperors new clothes,is this 4-5-1
system designed for teams that lack creativity in the middle,so they try to overwhelm the opposition by numbers, but getting a creative player is hard,Scott Allen might do the job but why does'nt Henderson get a chance in a big game,if it not working then hook him,but I think he would do rather well.

Not too dissapointed with the way we played. Just a lot of rustiness let's say. Sloppy passes and poor finishing in the final third and a couple of incidents of slack marking at the back. Hoping for a much more efficient performance in the away tie now.

Ciftci unlucky not to score tonight, Think he will be a top signing for us. As long as we go into the return leg focused and up for it we will go through with ease.

I thought he looked a big lump but early days and hopefully he'll improve (he better)

Agree1 Disagree5

15 Jul 2015 23:11:23
Not sure about " big lump " being fair
He showed good ability to hold the ball up and find a man
Biggest issue for me was his heading. looked like he was too anxious and jumping too early. he could/should have had at least 2 with his head.
Also his touch was a bit heavy and he seemed to struggle a bit with the pace of play
But overall, I see promise

'A big lump' after one game?.wow! This from someone who thinks james Forrest is a good player. After about 7/8 seasons of not producing!. Wow!

Hd had a poor game. Willing to let him off because he wasn't the only one. Just going to put that down to a lack of sharpness. He should start putting those chances away.

Thank you Jim, was starting to think I was the only one on here who had seen the game.

Guys if you think he had a good game against poor opposition and gave you inspiration, do share.

As I said was early days but didn't give me confidence and more than happy to be proved wrong ☺️

16 Jul 2015 11:36:33
He should have scored a hat trick. I wasn't overly impressed with the signing, anything positive I have to say about it is just hypothetical. And this isn't me saying after one game he's definitely going to be a flop, but last night was a poor show.

I know a lot of people were looking for a big scoreline tonight but from what I read on the match report, it seems we played pretty well, sounds like their keeper had a fantastic game. Who were the standout performers tonight?

On another subject, does anyone know when the new ticket office / museum construction starts?

15 Jul 2015 23:10:11
We pretty much had possession for the entire game just didn't put our chances away, Ciftci & Johansen should both have scored in the first half. They were no threat and it's another welcome 90 mins under our belt. Think GMS would have run riot tonight so disappointed he wasn't involved.

Agree4 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 21:49:34
A bit of a disappointing performance,I felt some were too far off the pace,Biton,Mulgrew,Johansson, were missing and off the pace for long periods,do not know what happened to GMS,no update on CTV, NOw we have to run the risk of injury,yellow/ red cards, etc, next week. The Green Brigade were the only Inspiration tonight, what a Sound, gives the heart a good feeling to hear them

I thought tonight was ok, will be easier next week when they have to come out a bit. The tie is most definitely over.

On the comments about the wonderful Green Brigade, I find their chants really pretty boring. When I started going to games the fans sang real songs (the fields, hail hail etc) now it seems to be making noise and throwing Celtic in every so often. There are games when they are great but other fans would join in if there were words with some meaning!

Ronnie, please sort out who is taking by the pens before kick off so everyone knows. Johansen wanting to take it and not being happy at not taking it has put Griffiths off. Not too bad all in all. Hail Hail

I don't have any misgivings for the return leg. I don't feel Strjarnan will cause us any problems. If they do try and come out we will pick them off. Yes I would have liked more goals tonight but not a bad performance for the first competitive game of the season.

Typical start of season rust from some players! Thought Armstrong done really well! So glad he got 6 months and a pre season with us.we'll see the best of him this season and gms! On a negative note,I think in the next round and the playoff game we'll struggle with izzy at left back! Every team we play constantly target that left back area! And he never disappoints them,so sloppy with his passing and positional play! We'll get punished by a better quality team! Surely we must be after a LB ED??

It's a commentary nit a pathetic babbling conversation by the most embarrassing commentary team in the history of football broadcasting.

As per JimTim

Tonight's match will tell us a lot. Has RD given the players sufficient confidence? Will they play like champions and favourites or will the occasion play them?

Tonight's opposition are hardly a household name and so we should be going at them from the first whistle and as RD says, play at a high tempo but in an organised and disciplined fashion.

We were turgid this time last year in Reykjavik and scrambled a 1-0 advantage and so tonight's game will tell us if we are any different mentally, psychologically and in other ways.

I hope we are quick out the traps and put 2 past them in the first 15 and then take it from there.

Hail hail and now on my way to the match

Do not usually offer betting tips on Celtic (superstitious) but a couple of bets I saw look too good to pass up 1) Gary Mackay-Steven 9/2 for first goalscorer and Evens for anytime scorer (he has been scoring in our friendlies) 2) Celtic -2 at 5/6 (we beat the other icelandic team 4-0 at Murrayfield last season so hopefully something similar tonight)
Also heard Celtic anticipate crowd of 50,000 plus tonight and as Strjarnan usualy play to HUNDREDS hoping they will be overawed.

Hi guys have previously been on the site but couldn't remember my log in details so have re-registered. Am currently in London and looking to see if anyone know any pubs I would be able to catch the game tonight. As its Celtic TV showing it I'm guessing it may be best to watch in an Irish bar? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't wait for the game tonight and our season is officially underway.

Just wanted to get peoples thoughts and expectations of RD and the bhoys over the next 10 months or so.

My target for the team is the league, naturally. One domestic cup - a treble would just be a bonus. And to actually get to the CL groups. This would be an achievable improvement on last season and quite simply shows progression.

Really looking forward (if we get there) to giving sides in the CL a right go as opposed to the sit back wait for a chance from a set piece mentality of managers gone by. Of course we will have to strike a balance between cautiousness and attack. I think our midfield with Brown, Johansen, GMS and Bitton, with Forrest and Commons off the bench if needed, will be the strongest in years.

My last hope is that, and this may depend on CL qualification, is that we negotiate a deal for a CL striker and an experienced centre half.

Tony,

I would have loved to have seen a goalscoring wing forward brought in myself too bud. Really had hoped we got Jahanbakhsh or a few I could name myself. I think with Ciftci and Griffiths being able to play deep and an already abundance of attacking midfielders, an out and out striker is now our priority. Seeing this morning Reading are struggling to match £3.5m for Robert Beric. Mentioned him before on here and we should be all over that. But anyway, there's time yet and if we offload Stokes and Boerrigter then aye there's no reason we shouldn't be in for a more natural wide man to walk in the first team. Which brings me onto Forrest.

DN,

I think I rate Forrest a wee bit more than most. But I don't rave about him by any means. I would like to see GMS and somebody who immediately improves the team either side of Johansen. If we've got Forrest on the bench then we're quite simply stronger. If anything i've said before i'd like to see him as an 'impact' player really. His pace his his main, arguably only asset. And he's only ever effective with space infront of him. Doesn't have the feet like GMS to actually take it around his man. This to me means he'd be much more effective stretching a game coming on later. It's last chance saloon for him this season. Fortunately we've been told that he's at a level now he hasn't been at. So in his last full year, he needs to utilise that scope for improvement and show us more than he ever has done. He's going to need one hell of a season to get a new contract.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 15:50:41
@DN I don't think there is anyone on here who is a great fan of Forrest, but he does have his uses as Jim says. But let's believe in RD he says he was previously at 40%. Now on 60-70%. Its now up to RD to get the best out of him.If what he says is true we might just have some player on our hands. Time will tell. let's give credit to players that achieve, he at least got us thro to CL football with the winning goal against Kajagoogoo or whatever their name was lol. Remember Samaras used to get slaughtered on a weekly basis but usually came up with the goods in big games and he went to 2 or 3 world cups.

Ciftci came on against Sociedad and looked like Ciftci.

Boyata has featured the most, which was important, and in the two games we've won looked comfortable. Very athletic.

Janko looks decent but has been playing further up I think.

Bailly hasn't featured.

Hi Ed or anyone reading. I know this isn't a rumour but can anyone tell me what channel the Celtic game is on tomorrow?

Ed, how many signing do you think we can expect before the start of the season? Just looking for your own opinion on it.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - It's not on any TV channels mate. I think there will be another 2 possibly 3 signings before the window closes but it'll depend on any exits as well.}

{Ed007's Note - I wouldn't rule anythinng out just yet, there's still about 6 weeks of the window to and a lot will depend on who leaves.}
