The board said we would spend £6-8 million if the right player came available.

Why oh why have we not went out and signed the bison?

I say we organise a protest march and boycott, imagine bringing in a lower quality singing like charly bhoy from Chelsea and retaining the services of the moose when we could have obtained the services of the SPLs most prolific haircut.

The season books won't be taken up I tell you.

Or we could do nothing and sit back and watch our club die, apparently its the done thing lol.

31 Jan 2018 23:03:51
and there it is. Lawwell wins the day again with a loan signing.

A good signing but again at the cost of not improving in other areas.

Also see this "watch our club die" by spending cash. that's not how "they" died btw

they tax dodged, they didn't die by spending. They died by spending someone elses cash and getting caught.

HUGE difference. get it right next time.

Tesla I think u missed my point, I was referring to the sevco fans.

01 Feb 2018 00:45:59
Maybe so, but I've seen so many people delighted at this transfer window. it's a disgrace tbh. So many people lowered their standards. We should be trying to improve.

Right now it's one step fwd and two steps back. Get inexperienced players, develop, sell.

repeat, repeat. No progression. No investment to move forward. Just happy stuck in one place, going nowhere.

Yet quite happy to put ticket prices up.

01 Feb 2018 07:43:51
Most important thing was retention this window mate. Last window we were close to seeing a few regulars leave, we have strengthened instead. Support and be happy man.

01 Feb 2018 07:43:44
I completely get where Tesla is coming from.
If I told you at the start of the window that we would have the injuries that we have now but don't worry we'll get Scott Bain on loan and a cb who'll soon be 23 but people still refer to as a "young prospect" who has only ever made 56 professional appearances, half of which are with Dundee. I am confident that all of you would've been dissapointed.
We have spent less than the new club who are apparently in financial trouble.
Yes we've spent roughly £8m this season, according to transfermrkt, which in the past would have been a large amount but in todays market that is peanuts.
We have the money from CL and transfer clauses of VVD etc.
I understand the club are trying to expand in other ways with the hotel etc but I think we should continue to improve what we have on the pitch at the same time.
Fair enough we have been playing very well but if we don't improve and somehow the new team manage to find investment from somewhere and continue to spend more than us every season then they will eventually catch up.
It will probably be after ten in a row, but it will happen.

I know I'll get a load of dislikes but I felt that something had to be said.

Jeeze, AGAIN, for the umpteenth time, how much do you think it takes to run Celtic? Musonda? HUGE outlay on a guy we could never afford. Young Morgan, BACK UP keeper and a highly rated young player who, you have to admit, looks a player. Added to a squad who were unbeaten last year, with Rogic and Paddy back soon. Come on mate. Sevco SPENT more? I'll leave that there.

01 Feb 2018 09:56:23
How is he a "young player"?
The boy is nearly 23!

Yes Sevco have spent more this season,
If they continue to spend more then eventually they will catch up.
No one really knows where they are getting the cash from but if they continue to invest they will continue to improve.

Our keeper situation was already shaky with Gordon in the first team let's be honest.
He was being slated on here after every game.
He's injured and we're now left with DDV, who GORDON was keeping out of the first team.
Bain who I used to rate very highly but now cannot get a game for Dundee or Hibs.

I do know how much it takes to run Celtic.
Celtic's revenue grew 74.2% last year compared to the previous year while our expenses grew only 33.4%. We are still owed £5.7m from player sales. It was reported at the end of 2017 that we have a year-end net cash at bank of £17.9m, huge increase from the £3.6m we had at the end of 2016.
All figures from Celtic's end of year accounts.

We have the financial resources to go out and sign a quality first team player but we didn't.

01 Feb 2018 11:46:13
See, Jhedi sticks up for board, gets a few likes n that. Support really is split on it but god knows why.

Happy to simply retain players? is that how amateur we are now?

The only thing it seems will take for fans to realise will be when zombies catch us. Only then will they demand. Quite pathetic really that the only thing some care about is being better than them.

Our standard should be Europe and to at least be a solid Europa side. Not settle to win a broken and beaten SPFL.

01 Feb 2018 12:15:12
Tesla who says we aren't a solid Europa side? We'll find out in a couple of weeks if we're a decent Europa level or not. I don't buy into this OTT fear of Zenit. If Anderlecht had qualified instead of us, people would be saying it's a 50/ 50 tie but because it's us we're doomed.

01 Feb 2018 14:44:15
Tesla, or maybe just maybe BR won't shell out for players who won't improve our team, and u also forget there is a real possibility we could be spending 12-15m in the summer with Roberts and Eddy so mibi we keepin it for that.

I was heartened by players stepping up against the east coast loyal, but the fact is the board did not spend to bring in defenders who aren't cup tied and will slot straight into the team, or bite the bullet and buy a good keeper.

Hendry may or may not be an answer, Morgan may of may not make a position his own next year. No RB means we either think we have cover in Hendry or that Ralston can cut it. Either way its unknown and that for the board to go wth hope rather than a belt and braces approach by signing a good one in the £4-5m bracket doesn't surprise me.

Im sorry but a young player from Dundee who may or may not be good enough, is just not good enough if we are genuinely serious about becoming a CL level team. It just isn't.

I was absolutely convinced we would bring in quality, but I meant more than one player.

01 Feb 2018 21:09:31
spot on a Magicpole.

02 Feb 2018 00:11:46
island celt, don't you know we're skint and the stadium is crumbling. We just can't throw money we don't have. When will this 2nd season meltdown end, i just can't take it anymore.

02 Feb 2018 00:14:45
I'd say we haven't done anything in Europe for about 5 seasons.

So we have basically just qualified at best. as for the rest see magicpoles post.

02 Feb 2018 02:46:22
The last time we built from strength was the seasons leading up to the sevile final. The team aged and dispersed. How much is 5 or 6m in todays money? We've had a few good teams since as well. When the window closes next summer we will know exactly where the club is going. I had a look at the celticfc official site and I scrolled down the squad and counted players that may leave, should and will. It's a big chunk. 2019/ 2020 will be Rodgers team. This is his summer. Should of been winter but we have too many 1st team players the aren't ours or are likely to leave.

02 Feb 2018 11:47:49
There is certainly something amiss in a person's when whether we have had a good transfer window is based on how much money we spend. This is total nonsense.
If P L and B R cared as little about the club as these nobodies do, then they could spend £12-15m on any run of the mill player and these fools would be satisfied.

02 Feb 2018 12:33:56
Old man Chris literally nobody is saying a good window = highest money spent.

if you get a Van Dijk at £2mil, Wanyama at 900k, Dembele 500k then superb!

but if you are struggling in a specific position and need real quality to take you to the next level then you MUST be willing to cast a bigger net out.

Instead our board bring in Hendry who no offence to the guy but probably isn't even better than Sviatchenko who we have let go on loan.

People are talking about a lack of progress in quality in the squad, not a lack of spending 500 mil.

02 Feb 2018 12:54:47
why do you keep harking tote totally false presumption that we would be happy if we spent £12m or big money. that's a total misrepresation of the position and clearly shows your total lack of understanding of the actual situation.

What we want is Toby a quality player who would slot intothe team and improve it. If we are lucky we may find a gem fora couple of million, like vvd. We have chosen to go for a player who plays with Dundee.

You yourself have said Brendan could improve him. Do you also think he could go inright now? If you don't do you refute the fact we actually need someone right now and thirdly do you think that recognised quality players come in a lucky bag?

Nobody wants us to spend money for these of it. what we want is to spend money that will ensure we can improve our chances of both beating Zenit and qualifying for the CL. we a ll know we have enough to win at home . The disconnect is between our stated aim of becoming a recognised CL taming the evidence of defensive frailities that led to us being totally hammered in too mny games.

If e don't address this it will continue. Is that what you want? To flatline? We need to up our defensive game . That requires additional personnel. if it is a quality player then of course he is going tocost more. What your attitude exemplifies is the fact if we don't bite the bullet then we stall. Your menaical support of the board and their strategy is risky.

None of this would be an issue if Peter and Rogers hadnt stated we have ambitions to be a CL level club whilst at the same time not investing in the type of player who doesn't need to be improved before he can step in. that means we go with what we have. That means that the immediate opportunity to make us harder to breach in the Zenit games could fall to the same players who couldn't cut it in the group stages.

How can that be a good thing?

Its not about spend spend spend. I ts about looking for a player who is better than what we have. It is recognising that this type doesn't come cheap, but in investing in quality it better ensures we qualify for the CL, have a better chance against Zenit and move us even further ahead at home.

We should have the money to do this with two lots of CL money, vvd money, 50K season books sold. We are nt talking about £20m we are talking about using the £7m from vvd add in another £3m from the CL revenue and buy two defenders in the £5m bracket.

That wouldn't break the bank. and it would improve us. Instead we have a young guy from Dundee who might be the answer, but might not be right now. well the world operates in the right now, later is dependent upon the right now. If we don't strengthen now will we risk missing out because the pattern of defending and lapses kills us. Then not fixing it with an outlay of £10m might cost us £40m.

Thats the risk. Remember Commpare can't ply against Zenit. Beating them will bring in other £5m in gates and Tv and progressing. That recoups the cost of one player right there. We lose because our defence is still weak and that's money down the drain.

You obviously think they can do no wrong. Blind faith was never my thing.
