I never realised Joe Allen only had a year left on his contract at Liverpool! Surely they can't expect to get much more than £5million for him, he's on £55,000 bit out of our range! But who knows!

Agree0 Disagree1

Do we really want a player that's had a good couple of weeks at the Euros? When it was the best he's played for the best part of 2-3years maybe more? 1year left on contract, euros, shop window. signs for new team then back to his usual self. Would rather keep Henderson and McGregor, they have more fight about them and are still young guys with plenty of time to develop into potentially better players than Allen, just because someone plays in EPL doesn't mean they are any good.

15 Jul 2016 12:27:11
Joe Allen is comfortably better than anything we have IMO.

15 Jul 2016 12:49:25
Mally I honestly don't see rhe attraction of Allen . he doesn't dictate/ run games . tackle . score . he constantly passes sideways or bacwards. his biggest attribute is he runs round the middle of park a lot . his play reminds . me of Peter grant (only grant did tackle) he's great at fixing his hair though.

15 Jul 2016 12:58:44
He is better than Brown and Bitton, jeez I'm better than they 2 and I've got a bad knee lol he's got a good few years on Henderson and McGregor, but I think through time and patience from the fans these two boys could offer more to CFC than Allen could, then ontop of that the fee and wages. would rather see the money spent where it needs to be spent and to me that's a decent GK, 2 more quality CB's, LB to help young Tierney and take the pressure off him which will help him develop more, a left sided winger, someone to replace Bitton (not joe Allen) , I'd keep SJ if he wants to stay and bench brown. And a new striker and get ciftci out.

15 Jul 2016 13:03:14
That was another thing I was going to say DRB fans are on here moaning about Bitton not putting a foot in, rolling up his sleeves kind of thing, never seeing a forward pass etc yet when Joe Allen get linked to us we should sign him, yet he's just a smaller version of Bitton that's played in the over rated EPL. I did say just because someone plays in the EPL doesn't mean they are any good.

{Ed007's Note - People seem to be ignoring the fact that Biton is ideal for Rodgers 'death by football' style of playing the game. If Biton leaves I'd expect him to be replaced by a very similar type of player.}

15 Jul 2016 13:21:01
I'd like Markus henrickson of az alkmaar . playmaker/ centre mid. with goals added.

{Ed007's Note - Henriksen's a brilliant player and if I remember correctly we tried to sign him when he originally left Rosenborg for AZ.}

15 Jul 2016 13:47:37
We did try for Henriksen. I've kept an eye on him too. Great player. There's a player in Johansen. He's played a few good games for Norway too if Allens good few games for Wales are to go by. I agree, I think we'd only see Allen in as Bittons replacement. Personally I think what we really need in the middle is a proper ball winner.

15 Jul 2016 13:49:34
DRB it's all about opinions I like him, what I've seen he's very tidy in possession his passing is crisp and he links play keeps the ball moving, think he got in team of the euros with best will in the world think that would have been beyond oor granty.

We had a great player a couple of seasons ago . A midfield player who in his first full year was voted player of the year . His next season he started playing through injury and maybe because he from the same country as our Manager who was now considered not good enough by some Celtic supporters, probably because he came from Norway, he couldn't be good enough . The midfield player couldn't understand how he went from hero to Zero so quickly, how the cheers turned to jeers and abuse . In any case his form has been struggling from poor to middling and it's only a matter of time until he is gone .
IM O operating in the markets that we are involved in and paying our type of fee, it's hard enough getting in talent without us turning that talent away from us .

To compare Joe Allan to Peter Grant is a belter. The pointer was the salt of the earth, and if we hadn't had him and McStay then God knows what would have become of us! But that's pretty much all Grant did do (tackle) and point out what everyone else should be doing. I don't know DRB if you're the age where you watched Peter Grant every week but I can assure you he didn't make defence splitting passes. I know for sure you haven't seen Allan because he's a cracking player who can play deep or further forward. He plays deep for Wales. If you had seen him for Swansea you'd have been blown away, I remember Fergie saying he was the closest thing to Scholes in the league at that time, - Allan specifically wanted to go to Liverpool though because of Brendan Rodgers! Also I don't think it's any disgrace having Gerrard, Henderson, Milner, Coutinho, Can slightly ahead of him!

15 Jul 2016 15:22:26
I also see Fergie was on the panel that put Joe Allen in the team of the tournament (Euro 2016)

15 Jul 2016 15:48:12
Peter Grant gave his all in every game . If we had a 25 year old Peter Grant playing on Wednesday night I think he would have come off the pitch at the end of the game physically wrecked . Not too many on Wednesday night seemed too tired to me.

15 Jul 2016 15:52:43
He's a good player Delphic, but worth what he'd cost US? You must admit he's regressed though? If he's went from being the next Scholes to struggling with Liverpool.

15 Jul 2016 16:16:56
good point old bhoy i was suprised the imps players were going down with cramp and our players were not unless the imps were faking it but with the heat i woulda thought some of ours would have had some cramping

15 Jul 2016 16:32:21
All this talk of Peter Grant is bringing back some great funny moments standing in the old Jungle, an old guy used to stand near me and my mates and for ninety minutes he would just shout "Grant you're an imposter" Even when other players lost the ball he would shout "Thats that Grant again" I miss that old Jungle what a place lol.

15 Jul 2016 16:59:24
Mally I know mate I just ghink he's average. Delhpic I'm 53 and I seen grant only too often . heedless chicken is the phrase. I've seen allen at swansea and never thought he was brilliant mate. the Co. Paris on to grant I think is relevant as allen passes left . right . back short and then points to the guy he gave it to to move the all on. only reason he went to Liverpool is rodgers and he was found out as average . old bhoy grant got away with piss poor performances because he was a " celtuc man" peter the provoking etc but he was average to poor . but yes he gave his all but his all wasn't very good and if he played on tues not a blind bit of difference he would have made.

15 Jul 2016 17:23:35
Wow - I only got a few years in the jungle (I'm 37) but what an experience, - my first old firm game was the St Patrick's Day Massacre and I was terrified. I agree with Old Bhoy about his commitment and adoration of the club, the idea of having 10, well I think we'd lose every game 1-0. He has regressed Jim but he's still a baby with 10 years in that deep role. It's also not easy moving from Wales to Liverpool at 22 and having Gerrard in front of you. He had a few injuries and only came back a few months ago. He came on against Dortmund and ran the show and got them to the final. There's a myth about the deep lying midfield role that you're almost wasted, and there's too many square passes. If you're passing for the sake of it I agree, it's all about movement in front of you. You also control the tempo of the game, and have the opposition chasing the ball. Some of my favourite players of all time played that role, guys like Davids, Rijkaard, Guardiola, Xavi, Pirlo and of course the maestro played plenty square passes. Obviously Joe Allen isn't as good as these guys but he'd do me. Every player and manager he's worked with raves about him.

15 Jul 2016 18:38:05
I watched every game Wales played at the euros and Allen was the one player who kept the ball hardly gave it away and it was forwards passes as well as back and sideways, but if he signed I think the majority if fans would be delighted.

15 Jul 2016 19:22:13
He's tidy, he does look up and forward. But he's not as influential as some are making out for me, what he does is keep the ball moving and gets it to those who are the real attacking threats. I call players like that continuation of play players. I think 60k a week + several million is a lot for that type of player.

15 Jul 2016 23:44:13
I thought Joe Allen played exceptionally well in the Euros . I think Coleman did a remarkable job, I M O he seemed to set the tem up in such a way that his three ball players Bale, Allen and Ramsay had a wee bit of room especially in front of them and he got the best out of al three.
