Just looking at all these names coming into celtic or being linked. As before believe it when I see it. But I have one question, Why now. Why not at the start of the summer or a few weeks ago. Why wait till we are out of the cl then splash the cash. I am utterly bemused by this.

Agree2 Disagree1

Garybhoy a was saying that exact same thing to ed other day sell big virgil and get players in for pre season but naw we do everything back to front as usaul

We definitely went for Simunovic before Malmö but Zagreb wouldn't sell until after the play-offs. Sunderland signed Borini today so maybe that has been the green light for Fletcher to leave as well. Be that as it may, it's highly frustrating to think we might well finish the window with a squad that would have had a better chance of beating Malmö.

Spot on GB1888: Why every year do we try and shut the stable door after the horse has bolted.

If its that case that we are selling VVD and that PL knew this to be the case( CL Qualified or not ) then why not spend the money, show our fans that we mean business and if we get our butt kicked in the Cl, then we get a nice earner to ease the pain. Its all very well getting in young fresh players but we need serious experienced quality players not quantity.
We may balance the books and that I`m sure is part of the big picture, however here is the BIGGEST PART. We need a team that can compete and at least qualify for the CL each year every year.
We may work in a totally different stratosphere in terms of money, but we offer a platform that for 3/4 of the EPL cannot and will not ever reach.

#Bringinquality.

The last minute deals are a gesture to appease the support, but there would have been no need for that if the club was run properly and basic planning had been done to qualify for CL.
The club and Lawell in particular have been far too complacent and surmised qualification with the squad we had.
The consequences are a double wammy of having to play in the EL and having to settle for what's left at the tail end of the transfer window.

Yes Kev I see what your saying but surely there are other cb,s at 4:6 mil out there. Surely there are other over payed over rated premier league strikers. What I mean is why not get things sorted for cl. Not a few days after it. It's always good to see us trying to improve I am not bemoaning that I am just confused at the timing. The synic in me would say that it's the timing that suits and we will be sitting tomorrow saying we have just missed out due to red tape. I just think everyone would have felt a bit better about things if we had a go at making the cl instead of waiting till the week you go out then making 4:5 signings

Garybhoy . Very simple , either the clubs were holding out for more money or else agent and player holding out for better league .
With Simunovic , Zagreb wouldn't sell before the Champions League playoffs .
Also even these past few days Zagreb wanted 40% of any sell on fee.
Mr Lawwell is said to make final offer of 25% .
Soon be clubs like us will be under pressure to make any profit on resale .

Old Bhoy please see my follow up post. If we have the money to spend 4/6 m on a cb and the wages to bring in an epl striker on loan why wait till after the cl has gone. It doesn't have to be the boy from Zagreb get the money spent on quality early and give us a chance of getting to cl and the signings have instantly payed for themselves. Old Bhoy Your a great believer in rd do you think the board are giving him the proper support by only spending money after he has failed.

Bhoys since Ronnie came in last year if the Christie and Simunovic deals go through Ronnie will have signed 16players! We signed 7 last summer, 2 in January and will have signed 7 this summer. Now I think that would say that Ronnie has been backed but either he is getting players that are not good enough or picking them or he does not really know what he is doing and is Just buying anyone who he hopes can help. When he took over he had a decent side. It needed some quality but they had won the league by 29 points. If we had just bought 5 or 6 decent players to add to that side we would have had a decent team. Why are we buying 16 players and still looking poor ( understand some were loans)! I thought last year were the loans in because the board were worried RD would not work out but this year we only have 1 loan player but the entire system looked daft

Vary bhoy , just read my post again , most players don't want to come to play in Scotland until they have all other options closed down on them .
I am not necessary a great believer in R D , but he is our manager and deserves our support . I won't turn my back on him just because he gets the odd bad result.
The Board are supporting him , and supporting him well , they still employ him and seem to have had no problem implementing new ideas that he has had re fitness and medical set- up at the club . Re the acquisition of new players , this window has yet to close and I have no way of knowing whethe the board has backed him well enough or not . I haven't got access to the type quantity and quality of player he has requested , so I cannot know whether he has been backed or not .
An example Garybhoy we don't know whether , Deila wanted Matthews kept or whether he didn't really care one way or the other . If the club is freely selling players the manager wants , it's a fair indication that the board isn't backing them .
