American Diskerud – on Celtic’s radar in the summer – is out of contract at Norwegian outfit Rosenborg and available on a free after talks on a fresh deal broke down.
The 24-year-old midfielder – whom Celtic boss Deila previously tried to sign while gaffer at Stromsgodset – is now looking at several options in Europe and the USA.
It’s understood Deila has been keeping tabs on his form in the past few months.
Kris Commons is being pursued by Neil Lennon’s Bolton while Beram Kayal could quit for a return to Israel so there is likely to be room in the squad and money available to fund fresh blood in midfield.
Last night his father, Paal, confirmed his son is set to leave Norwegian football. And, while refusing to name any of the interested parties, he spoke highly of Hoops boss Deila.
He said: “Mix has a list of clubs that have shown an interest and the process now is to go through these from top to bottom and work out his next move.
So we're competing against a couple of American clubs (retiring grounds for has beens ) and a Norwegian club (greatest league on the article circle) for someone who's contract has run out .-Exiciting times ahead .
