Is ther any reason why ronnie won't try 442? Got 2 be at least worth a try surely since he only has the 1 game plan?.

Any update on the cole situation ed? Is he still up here or bk in london?

Yeah Chris. That's the way he wants to play, that's why he won't change!
His mind set and "philosophy" won't change and you can't judge him on that, the problem is we don't have the squad to play 4-2-3-1, he's just filling spaces with a player.

It's just a formation and not regimental, most teams use it now, so others follow suit not to be overrun in midfield.
It does my nut in playing this way in the mince league we play in 😡 we should be so much better!

On paper Brown and Bitton sit, but they don't, brown is probably deepest to help play out with the 2 Centre halfs, Bitton slightly more forward as he's the better of the 2, rotate at times, whatever but they don't play flat.

What is regimental is the pace we play at times, and 1 up!
We're not seeing what Ronny and his team think we're seeing, it's horrible at times.

I'm certainly not against the way he sets up, and it's great that it will filter down the other age groups, so if and when they can make the step up its not huge transition for the younger lads (if they get a chance)
We've not got the squad to play it properly, and that's not Ronnys fault!

i think that switching between 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 will not benefit anyone in the long term. The idea is that keeping to the same formation in every game (and ideally in every age group) allows players to become comfortable no matter the opposition. However this takes time but should in the future mean that we have a clear way of playing and hopefully help the youth players transition into the 1st team.

In my opinion, the major issue with the 4-2-3-1 is that our striker and the two wide players are not good enough when its forrest, commons and griffiths as they have massive limitations. Commons is one footed and can't beat a man, although he does have a great left foot tbf. Forrest is almost the opposite, whilst he can beat a man, he is also quite 1 footed and its hard to know what's he's going to do next. And finally whilst griffiths has improved and he is a good finisher, he is quite easy to mark out a game. The three of them just don't pose enough of a threat as a force going forward together.

Personally, I prefer armstrong. He is far from the finished thing but he is actually deceptively quick, can beat a man on either side and also is a good finisher. For me, forrest needs to play RW as he offers no goal threat cutting in from the left, and commons should be battling with rogic for the central role. I have no idea what's up with johanson, if he can rediscover his form from last year then he starts every game but right now he isn't up to much.

My front 5 is

Brown Bitton
Forrest Rogic Armstrong
Griffiths

with Allan, commons, johanson and maybe nesbitt? pushing them for places. Then next year i'd look to henderson to come in there as well as I think he has massive potential and fingers crossed we find a striker with a bit of a presence up front.

Rogic wasn't great today , he certainly wasn't alone , I think Rogic needs players playing well round him , for us to see Rogic at his best .

Edinbouhy
Your front 5 is 6

04 Oct 2015 20:11:58

The general consensus here is that we don't have the players to play this system yet our manager forces it upon them. What does that tell us about the manager.
Also we apparently play this system right thro the ranks in the youth. Oh how wonderful. So what if by the time the young players get thro we have a different manager who plays differently or there is a change in the way teams teams play and formations. what's the point in it. isn't it better just to coach young players to become just good footballers.

04 Oct 2015 22:15:53
But that's the idiocy of playing a system that you don't have the players to play it,(allegedly),you play players in unfamiliar positions with unfamiliar resposibilities and then you blame the players for not performing, why does'nt the manager start managing and change the system to suit the players rather than changing the players (as if they were automatons) to suit the system, hey we're all humans (allegedly).

04 Oct 2015 22:30:59
rayman. there is no evidence to say that these players are more suited to a 4-4-2 though? I would prefer sticking to his plan, and if it means sacrificing a little just now to benefit in the future then so be it. Are you suggesting that by implementing a 4-2-3-1 in the youth teams instead of one decided by the individual youth team managers that the players will spend less time learning to play the game?

04 Oct 2015 23:10:40
@Edinbhoy, I never said a 442 but there other optons available. In football u need to be able to adapt to different situations and opposition. Its clear our manager fails to do this.
If u teach this system in the youths constantly and as I sad when they get there and we playing differently what's the point and they won't be used to new system. If you just coach good players well good players can play anywhere.

05 Oct 2015 00:13:40
its clear you don't like him, sticking to his chosen way of playing isn't necessarily a failure.

I also would question your opinion that good players can play anywhere. there are some positions that are easily interchangeable, and some players that are naturally suited to more than one role but a player who focuses on the skills required to be a success in his chosen position will likely progress further than a team full of utility players

05 Oct 2015 01:07:32
sticking strickly to a chosen way of playing when it is obviouslsy not working,is not a failure?,it is a failure, good players can play anywhere that they can play good, but they can't play anywhere,am sure when Ronnie gets the hang of being a manager,he will understand what he has to do

The problem most people have , is that they try out different systems in football management and then decide which system they prefer .
