Trying to look forward - any good news on the transfer front?
26 Aug 2026 16:52:10
Aye McCowan has just signed a new 10 year contract.
26 Aug 2026 18:06:23
I’m looking for happy news on the numerous of injured players from last night.
26 Aug 2026 15:09:05
Defensively against the ball our team has little if any structure.
I see teams at the local park who have better shape and tactical know how.
Losing 4 goals in the way we did to allow LASK to take it to extra time was unacceptable.
We need players brought in that can tackle and are not bullied off the ball. Trusty for one thinks he is better than he actually is.
26 Aug 2026 14:19:12
After that humiliating debacle it shows our defence and midfield need physicality added. A GK CH LB RB and 2 midfielders badly needed. Trusty CCV, Ralston McCowan Tounekti Yang Mcgregor Scales Sinisalo all need upgraded.
26 Aug 2026 14:58:28
Well after last night that's certainly not happening.
26 Aug 2026 14:18:59
Just on last night, after game mon taking responsibility, no analogies of Hondas in sight, understands he has a job to do, he failed last night (for me his team let him down big time) by team I mean his staff and players, and that he and they’ll need to do better,
All the warning signs have been there, just beating Dundee, thrashing a bad killie, Dundee it’s hitting woodwork 5 times, lask probably should’ve scored a few at cp,
We should have been set up, coached, and done better last night but we didn’t, time to move on and get back to winning game and scoring goals, hopefully new boys eyes are wide open now to how quick success can be disaster at Celtic and feel the pressure and requirements of expectations to win every game, it’s raw and crap just now but still a whole season to look towards.
26 Aug 2026 15:01:31
His team let him down? This is on the manager. We were 4-0 up with 70 mins to go and lose. Shocking game management.
26 Aug 2026 16:17:52
It is on manager, players and board.
If you quote what else O'Neill said, he admitted that the team were a severely lacking as well.
26 Aug 2026 17:59:08
The cluster**** is down to a capitalist board manager and players. To many lightweight players that aren't good enough to wear the jersey!.
26 Aug 2026 13:36:29
Does anybody know how much lask have spent on players this season or say the last 5 years.
26 Aug 2026 14:08:10
Does it matter?
26 Aug 2026 14:12:35
Lask or any other clubs transactions should not be used in any comparison. we are in the dark ages re recruitment scouting development. our board is run like a cross between steptoe and son and trotters independent traders.
lask won the double last year and there only ever previous top flight honours was a double 62 years ago so not exactly an Austrian powerhouse. its our own house that needs sorted. we need rid of the dinosaurs running our club.
26 Aug 2026 15:36:57
They scored goals for fun and have a youth academy which is in partnership with Ajax. Majority of their team are Austrian and they have an Austrian coach who (outside of the Celtic Park demolition) has them seriously well drilled.
As per usual in Europe, the coaching staff badly underestimated the opposition and those in charge of recruitment left us with gaping holes in the team.
CCV back from injury and has no pace, Trusty recovering from a stomach bug shouldn't have been in the team, Tierney and Donovan tried but were out of position too often, Hatate and Tounekti didn't even try, Hogh needs time to bed in and I would have liked to see Duran played in the middle at half time with Hassan put on the right. Osmand would have done more than Tounekti.
Embarrassing night, but not unexpected. Watch the purse strings tighten now.
26 Aug 2026 13:31:59
Banked 37.7m spent 32m and the St money so we've basically spent nothing, and yet they couldn't get a midfielder in to help last night, that's our issue we are so open and mcgregor being asked to do too much especially defensively.
26 Aug 2026 14:18:23
It is a pivotal point for our board now.
Do they spend properly so we build a good squad and go as far as possible in the Europa with a view to being better prepared for the 3 CL qualifiers next season ( if we win the league) or do they do their usual, bury their heads in the sand and hope and pray MON somehow manages to win the league with what we have and win a few Europa league games.
At this point I have no confidence in our midfield and defence to hold out many teams this season. We give away too many chances.
Sigur at 3m is a nobrainer and Gineitis is worth 9m. They will provide the athleticism and physicality we lack.
We will have to sell a few like Magowan, Hatate and maybe Loan Tounekti or sell him. We could get enough from those sales to get the 2 midfielders we need.
Trusty needs punted not just for last night, he is not physical enough and gets bullied. Surely there is a cb we could get in either on loan or to buy without destroying the precious bank account.
I get we are the start of a rebuild, which takes time but 2 more players could have made the difference last night.
We cannot halt any progress in the squad rebuild, plan now for next year.
It just takes belief in the process and a willingness to change strategy.
A smart investment now could potentially reap huge benefits 12 months down the road.
Is MON the man for that project, I just don't know, but if he is for now, give him the tools to get the team into a positive, progressive, gelled unit for the manager who takes us into the qualifiers next year.
26 Aug 2026 14:22:19
They also sold out best midfielder before the tie and dint get a replacement in.
We went into the most important game in terms of finances with a midfield of McGregor, Nygren, baur, mccowan and hatate.
Last night was about managing the game effectively and keeping it tight but we didn't have the players to do that.
26 Aug 2026 14:42:45
Joe, a financial risk that wasn't needed and it backfired.
Now they must show some ambition or it will be another long season with discontentment in the stands.
26 Aug 2026 15:25:27
Joe best midfielder forced clubs hand to sit on West Ham bench in efl cup, and replacements aren’t available, let’s not pretend last night was because of Engels not being there, kt has started season appallingly, trusty looks out of position now he’s on left, ccv we know can defend but he’s a long way to go to find form, and donavan pulled in to cover and no one complained last week,
In terms of keeping it tight I don’t see that down to personnel it’s more about coaching, knowing when to carry ball, clear ball, where to clear it to, when to support striker when not to, I could go on, they had none of it, we had umpteen internationals on park Joe we had the personnel to see tie out in any way that the game dictated, wether attacking or defensively but it was a failure all round, and there’s a very easy target but like last year the blame lies one place and it’s no where near board, mon himself knows he had to take responsibility last night, thing is unlike br we won’t have a sulking manager hanging everyone out to dry but himself come weekend game, mon will have that team ready to react,
In terms of new additions I still think wel see some …
My perfect world, reo McGowan balikwisha ralston Kenny all allowed to leave,
Bring in (start with what I think will happen ) lb on loan, new cm, gk, additionally I want rb cover, another cm and a left winger. don’t particularly care if on loan or bought as long as they can contribute,
My firm focus is domestic (admittedly I see Europe side show)
26 Aug 2026 15:27:20
I believe if Celtic coujd have kept Engels for the LASK game they would have. I think Engels pushed through the transfer.
26 Aug 2026 18:33:33
Jaa11
Are you DD or worse his offspring. Was like reading a highlight from out AGM.
26 Aug 2026 19:48:32
Jaa11,
I think you sit just in front of me at Celtic Park.
The 35 rows of seats behind you piss themselves laughing at how gullible you are.
You deserve Sinisalo, McCowan, Ralston and Scales.
The board will make your season if they brought back Taylor.
26 Aug 2026 12:32:45
Last nights performance and result was exactly where we are as a team / club. Last weeks result was a fluke, by rights we should have been at best taking a draw over to Austria. we scored 3 screamers but could easily have conceded 4.
Now we can single individual players out from last night for ability etc but what good would it do, this isn’t the players fault, the fact they aren’t good enough at that level is not on them, the club have had years of financial gains that they have point blank refused to utilise to the benefit of the team… yet they refuse to do so… why?
We have spent circa 30 mil yet are in net profit?
MoN stated earlier in the window we did not need defensive cover… why?
Our defensive players seem perpetually injured! Key positions not strengthened.
I could go on but what’s the point… I give up. As long as they are in charge it will not change, I dread to think how the rest of the window will pan out now but I would hasten a guess the targets will be of lesser quality than we need 🙄.
26 Aug 2026 14:21:12
Are the 4 signed the best quality in those positions we could have signed? Or where they the cheaper options?. and argument for the course of the season hopefully positive but we still needed minimum gk lb lw cb cm st brought in before these two ties and the board are guilty of being negligent again.
26 Aug 2026 00:40:20
Ed, do you reckon that reported incoming signings maybe effected by that result.
{Ed007's Note - I would think so, that CL carrot was a big thing to sway players to come to Scotland.}
26 Aug 2026 13:26:16
Ad sign the boy Ferry and the Hibs cdm probably a decent Cb or 2 out there that won't burst the bank.
26 Aug 2026 14:23:50
Squad players spl at best probably but last night showed we need better quality.
26 Aug 2026 09:26:10
Ed
How you see the transfer window panning out now?
{Ed007's Note - I don't know about panning out, it's more been panned in.}
26 Aug 2026 14:10:37
🤣🤣Sarcasm always makes me smile through tough times! CR Smith on the way.
{Ed007's Note - If you don't laugh you'd probably cry Steff...
26 Aug 2026 14:25:04
They've brought in the city council to board the window up and paper over the cracks.
26 Aug 2026 16:38:40
So true Ed. I. said to my staunch neighbour I feel just now how yous feckers feel permanently 🤣.
{Ed007's Note - 😂🍀
26 Aug 2026 12:18:41
Well that will be our transfers all binned, I'm now expecting 4 or 5 loans just like January coming in.
If we had bought a couple of big strong midfielders a few weeks ago, last night could have been so different.
I know we were lucky in the first tie but we should never lose a 4 goal lead unless it's to a top European team.
I love MON but I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was getting sick of his Mr Bean act. Now he has totally damaged his reputation but that's down to the board as he should never have been brought back in the first place.
26 Aug 2026 14:43:06
If the board do that there is another onslaught coming their way. Last night is on them for lack of preparation, yet again. They have still learned nothing from past failures.
26 Aug 2026 11:29:04
Austrian football is a higher standard than Scottish football, too many people on here just too over confident before the LASK game.
