31 years on from when Fergus McCann put an end to a board that conspired to suck the lifeforce from Celtic Football Club, I believe we're again, at a crossroads.
Unlike the Grant's, Kelly's and Whyte's, the current board has ensured our club is on a firm, financial footing - our annual financial reports testify to that.
Unfortunately, this current board turned a player transfer 'model' into a form of asset stripping, where our best players are sold, year after year, and the quality whilst the level of the product on the park continues to deteriorate.
This current board have been unable or unwilling to consistently strike an acceptable balance between the business side of the club and the footballing side of the club, and in a nutshell that is what I believe the supporters are so unhappy about.
The summer transfer window that has just closed highlighted for everyone to see, just how inept those in control of Celtic FC are.
The way they 'conducted' their transfer business was nothing short of embarrassing. The signings they made were nowhere near good enough and as a result, we're left with a team weaker than we've seen in years, that includes two players in Maeda and Yang, who's transfers to Germany and Birmingham were scuppered as a result our well practised 'zero preparation'.
It take a great deal for any Celtic supporter to arrive at the last chance saloon of 'voting with their feet', as no one connected with Celtic wants anything other than the club to prosper.
Last evening, a statement was released on behalf of club board. A board who's relationship with the supporters, is, at best, strained.
Instead of putting their hands up, acknowledging their mistakes, particularly during the last transfer window and attempting to reassure the supporters that a plan will be put in place to address the shortcomings of the first team squad, they hid behind nonsensical sentences that said nothing and amounted to nothing more than yet another dismissive insult aimed at every supporter of this once great club.
How this plays out, no one knows. One thing is for sure, this board are only good at counting money and if the status quo remains, Celtic Football Club will continue to feel the pain from the self harm inflicted by the very individuals charged with our clubs care.
God bless Celtic ?

Mcann was only a piece in the jigsaw that got rid of the old regime .

Pedro that has to be most nonsense I have read on here! We are nowhere near the crossroads of 1994. We have no option but to sell our best players when their stock is high due to the diddy league we play in and we wages we can offer because of this. It's either sell when stock is high or allow our best players to run down their contracts. We will always be a selling club due to the league we play in and finances that come with that.
Our board deserve immense credit for the position we are in finacially whilst still achieving success on the park.
Are there ways we can still move forward and modernise the club? Absolutely! A DOF is a must for me. The pathway from youth to first team must be a priority also.

Coming from you I take that as a compliment.
You're opinion is of no consequence to me.

Bhoy88 you must be a paid member of Celtic PR team.
The fans that continue to back the club buy all the merchandise and believe their tripe are the ones that deserve immense credit, These charlatans have been made very wealthy by not investing in the team properly but taking massive dividends and bonuses for what? who else realistically was going to win our league? All this board backing is embarrassing.
You’ve raised 2 very good points about the DOF and the Youth system, both things we as fans have been crying out for but left unaddressed by the same board you fawn over. Sooner they are all out the better.

Celtic Football Club is under the heel of an aloof, patronizing Junta that has not only distanced themselves from the lifeblood of the club, but totally disregard them altogether with disdain.
Football at Celtic Park has went from being 'nothing without supporters' to nobody's business barring a select dictatorship.
They go not see Celtic as we do with a source of pride and hope that sources emotions, follows traditions with a proud history.
They are there for pure profit and parasitical self indulgence. Our club will never progress and grow under these tyrants.
Their relationship with our manager is barely hanging by a thread, through non co-operation, polar opposite objectives and a very mutual lack of respect. This is a recipe for disaster.
It has also to be said that Brendan Rodgers has not been blameless in this situation and indeed the poor performances on the pitch.
Both these factors are a shotgun marriage of inconvenience.
While some are preparing the 'Dermot Desmond, get out of our club' banners, it might also be wise to bid Brendan bye bye as well.
Both parties cannot work together in a productive and progressive manner and the support cannot enjoy supporting and encouraging the players while this toxic environment exists. Save Our Celts AGAIN.

I just read that our wage scale is still the same as it was in 2001, I find that astounding considering that certain people on the board get hefty salary increases often.
No wonder we struggle to attract top tier players.

Great post Pedro,
All the manager and fans are asking for is a balance and if we sell a player for 10 million buy one at around six as replacement.
And more importantly bring them in before we sell.
It was seamless when AJ came in and Juranovic went out.
Greed has taken over with the board.

It's the stockpiling of projects that's the issue for me JB. It bloats the squad, raises the wage bill and doesn't improve the starting 11 one bit. Especially now, like they mentioned in their statement, the constraints in place from UEFA. They're more concerned about unearthing a gem to make a sizeable profit on, rather than improving the standard on the field. It would be great to invest in the squad with genuine quality, get the squad as best as it can be in place, then once it's time to move a few on we replace the few that's left. It always seems to be wholesale changes with 10-15 players out and another 10+ in. That alone says everything about our business model. It's just rinse and repeat the following windows moving on the dross that was never good enough to be here in the first place.

Fact is we have wasted money! that's either on rodgers or recruitment team can't blame board for that . id like rodgers to go and we go down a different route. Was mistake bringing him back . he's wasted sone of the good work ange done.
07 Sep 2025 18:11:33
We don't need to sell anyone we chose to sell them, I get why we do it but the replacements have to be right, the board knew months ago who our targets were and failed miserably the lowball offers were an embarrassment to the club and that statement was all about blaming everyone but themselves.
07 Sep 2025 18:20:32
I think that was the underlying theme of the statement newcelt.
07 Sep 2025 18:52:29
We've spent 43% of our revenue says it all.
07 Sep 2025 19:25:16
Pedro I 100% AGREE with you
Some other posters on here just will not acknowledge when our Board gets things wrong
I just wish Fergus would come back and save our club again HH.

To compare the state of Celtic club and the Board’s performance over 30 years. ago is an insult to not only the present Board but to the tens of thousands of fans that stood by their club and knew to back and support F McCann, although it has to be said his intentions behind masterminding. the take - over of our great club were not always honourable. In fairness to McCann he was quite open about him planning to make a substantial profit from his investment in club . Wealthy Celtic and ordinary working fans whose families had to do without, supported F McC and the dream came true . Mr Dermot Desmond who was McCann’s choice to take over from him, hasn’t made any attempt to make money from his invest and for example refused a dividend every year .
Our longest and most persistent levels of success have come under DD reign as biggest single investor .
Perhaps the best ever tribute that can be handed to DD, PL and the Board was our nearest rivals were so terrified that they were about to be. not only beaten to titles by Celtic under DD but actually destroyed, took the totally. illegal route of using EBT’s and actually on top of that fiddled and didn’t pay HMRC and a £40 bill to local face - painter . Rangers were liquidated and thus died . Con men and crooks formed a new club, but SFA and Sevco broke many rules in an attempt to keep a club at Ibrox .
Celtic fans are now reduced to glib nonsensical remarks concerning their own Board and instead of demanding answers from SFA about the training and use of referees all from one wee Corner of Lancashire and demanding an explanation why bigoted sectarian singing is allowed regularly from Sevco’s crowd who are allowed to throw and hit OUP players with object and SFA do nothing .
Celtic fans demanded a statement ( aare they becoming more like their H. n friends who are very fond of statement.
Celtic fans didn’t specify what they wanted statement to cover .
Club issued a statement, which I thought was very reasonable at least as an opening statement . However our negative fans just took from the statement what they didn’t like and some called it lies . This shows the stupid approach by some fans and instead of encouraging Board to open up with more dialogue which may help, fans reply will end all dialogue.
Surely no honest person can be sure if the window and purchase of Iheanacho, has made window a success or a failure.
Last summer we spent in excess of £30m on 5 players, none of them could be regarded as a starter this season . So last season is a failure?
07 Sep 2025 19:30:29
We made a 14 million profit in the window just closed.
We could have signed Breum for 6 and Munteanu for 7 and have still been in profit.
Any ambition at all would have seen us dig into the mountain of cash and given Brendan a new centre half as well.
This notion of wasting cash is rubbish other than when baby Lawell was at the club.
Some signings work out better than others however I don’t see BR get any credit for turning Kuhn into a 17 million player and the Progress on Matt ORiley was astonishing.
I never seen a deluge of clubs trying to sign him under Ange for25 million.
And the reason they became so valuable?
Brendan had them performing in the biggest shop window there is in the champions league.
Thanks to our appalling board not replacing these talents we won’t be there for a long while if ever again.
07 Sep 2025 20:45:30
Breum is gash and never worth £6m and our board know it!
07 Sep 2025 21:47:00
Strelec went for 6m but we got a free in.
