Stephen Welsh has been recalled from his loan at Motherwell. The article states Celtic intend to keep him in the squad going forward.
11 Jan 2026 21:30:03
Sensible move?.
11 Jan 2026 21:30:07
This suggests we won't be signing a CB and will be going with scales, trusty, Welsh and Murray.
11 Jan 2026 23:03:47
And what Joe.
11 Jan 2026 23:10:52
Poor decision… not physical enough for CH.
We need much better.
This is what happens when you have an incompetent and incoherent board and no football department.
We desperately need a commanding CH.
11 Jan 2026 23:37:51
@Bhoy88
Sensible move? In what way? So we don't have to spend money on a CB?
Honestly mate if you think this is a sensible move (unless its recalling him to sell) then you really need your head examined.
12 Jan 2026 01:23:05
It's sensible move because we need a RCB, he's our player and he's playing well into the bargain! Think about it Derry it makes sense?.
12 Jan 2026 03:42:36
It's a sensible move because January is a nightmare window and Welsh has been fine for us in the league. The way some of you act about home grown players is laughable. As soon as they make a mistake that's them in the bin. They could have 10 solid games in a row but that 1 game where they make a mistake, you'll go "I told you he was *****".
I'm not concerned with our defence for the league. It's the front end of the pitch that needs addressing. You want a commanding centre half? What so every player he comes in contact with can throw themselves to the floor and win a free kick? Ball playing centre backs are what Celtic need. Trusty, scales, CCV and Welsh will all win more headers, duels, tackles than they lose.
So in short, yes, it's a sensible move.
12 Jan 2026 07:48:10
Keep clapping bhoy, so long as it makes you happy.
12 Jan 2026 07:48:39
You seem to be forgetting that it was not the fans who binned Welsh, it was the managers.
In fact he would have been sold in the summer but we didn't have a buyer, hence the reason he was loaned out.
The fact he has been brought back shows a lack of ambition by the club but this is where we are at. The boards mismanagement has caused a considerable decrease in our revenue and this is going to have consequences that go beyond this season.
Are we supposed to be happy that our board have messed up finances, recruitment, managerial appointments, atmosphere and harmony?
12 Jan 2026 08:43:20
Welsh has had plenty of opportunities at Celtic and can't cut it (fact) . It's ok to play well with no pressure at Motherwell. Celtic is a different animal and it's proven he can't handle it. Horrendous bringing him back.
12 Jan 2026 08:49:13
Sensible, maybe, but it's definitely not exciting or ambitious. It'll be the usual january is a difficult window. Then there's internationals in the summer. That'll be 'difficult' too.
12 Jan 2026 09:44:00
Welsh is good enough for the league. The league is all that matters after the disaster of a summer we've had.
January is a hard window. Teams aren't going to sell their best players this window. Unless you offer silly money. Celtic will not offer silly money. Loan to buy options are our best bet and I don't mind them. Let's you see a player before you commit funds, it's a smart move and we've done alright with them in the past.
Typical response "happy clapper". No mate, I'm a realist. You're deluded. You think Celtic can go and sign a world class centre back in January which is just laughable. Linked with a striker with 1 goal this season and your thoughts will be, "that's not good enough, we should be signing someone on 30 goals". Yeah? Who? What team is going to let a player scoring at that rate go in January?
Celtic need to be sensible in this window and so far they are. Keep your outrage for the summer and get behind the team. No coincidence that the team has struggled since you lot have went sour. Attacking other fans for supporting the team because we actually want to see us do well and all you want is to say "I told you so". Grow up lads.
12 Jan 2026 10:19:31
It's not even about being sensible either, realistic for me more like, Welsh had a poor injury record with us but when fit done ok, he never really got a run in team and as a back ch I see no issue in him, people say managers didn't fancy him, the Belgium club did but didn't have the money, this amazing guy at Motherwell does and now Aberdeen, br didn't fancy lager (wrongly probably ) nawrocki (who knows) trusty ( he was wrong ) welsh ( doing ok elsewhere) and that's just defenders, we work in a market lined with risk in terms of transfers, look at sevcos spend in summer vs what's on park, it's atrocious and that's what our fans are demanding, we need a better structure and plan no doubt or back to oldskool top notch scouting, we need better structure in doing the deals no doubt, but jumping on recalling Welsh and going straight to cheap option jibes, it's boards fault jibes and so on isn't doing anyone any good, it's prob mon who wants him back to look at him, this Jan might save season it won't solve issues, let's as a fanbase look to positives of possibly saving season, the board will still be there to bash when we lose a game, go out a cup or don't win league, if those things don't happen I guarantee no one will be offering a pat on back.
12 Jan 2026 11:23:15
@Beardy it wasn't you i was calling a happy clapper. It was bhoy88.
12 Jan 2026 13:51:25
I can't see what he's said.
I have no love for our board and I back the call to replace them. That doesn't mean I'll criticise them for trying to help MON out this window. You never know what a player is going to be like until they've put on the jersey for us. Highlights and stats are deceiving. I will always support the players and any players we bring in. Our motto is faithful through and through which seems to have been forgotten. If our team isn't performing, I'm not going to jump on any one player. We've had a few bad performances from every player this year.
Kasper for example. People wanting his contract ripped up because he's had a few bad games. Like come on. The same guy who single handedly at times kept us in most of the champions league games last season and stopped us losing more during the early parts of this season. He's not just suddenly declined that much in a few months. It's a confidence issue, the same with every player in the team. Hatate is another, gets no end of grief yet he runs his socks off every single game he plays. We're allowed to critique players, it's part of the game but we should also support these boys through difficult spells. Celtic players play far better when we show them support. It's a high pressure job and we shouldn't let any players away with not putting in a shift. We should call for them to go when they make a mistake though. Mistakes happen.
I'm pissed off with this season as much as anyone but I'm tired off it. I'm going to support the manager and players and hopefully the board haven't screwed us for the title come May.
12 Jan 2026 17:41:45
I will back the team and the manager, but I won't put my outrage at the board on hold. I'll continue to highlight their mistakes and push for their removal at every opportunity.
The board might think they've pulled a rabbit out of the hat by bringing Martin back, but the genie is out of the bottle. Many of us have had enough of their poor management, lack of vision, lack of ambition, dismissive attitude towards fans, and the complete absence of meaningful dialogue.
A few bad results or a poor transfer window and the toxicity will return to the stadium, directed straight at them. They can still fix this by engaging meaningfully with supporters, but instead they're choosing to hide in their ivory tower.
12 Jan 2026 17:57:11
aberdeen have made a offer for him i think. hope the bhoy gets a move.
12 Jan 2026 18:32:21
I don't care how much a player costs. What I am interested in is bringing in players better than what we have I really don't think Welsh is better than Trusty and I would have liked us to bring in someone better. Improving the squad has to be the minimum point here and Welsh will not fill that remit .
It snacks of laziness too me a familiar position we have been in for some years now and it seems to be getting worse. Ever since the Second Lennon spell.
12 Jan 2026 20:05:41
WeeJoe, name a club or clubs who have meanful dialogue with the fans, who aren't a out for themselves with their own agenda?
Name a football club where the board have not made mistakes.
Do you honestly think someone is going to come into Celtic and do a David Murray and send us down the river.
The finances aren't there to do that in Scottish football.
{Ed007's Note - Nobody's asking anyone to come in and force the Club into liquidation by tax dodging and illegally registering players though are they so that's a pointless comparison.
The Celtic support have made sure the Club have the finances to be domination the Scottish game and at least holding our won at European level with similar clubs - we don't need anyone else's money, we just need people running the Club to spend the money we have in a more wisely fashion.}
12 Jan 2026 20:43:59
@greentreee - borussia Dortmund have meaningful dialogue with their fans.
Anyway, I don't care about other clubs, I care about Celtic and right now our board are making an absolute arse of it.
Do you agree?
