I really don’t get the constant call for an additional CB. Trusty and CCV look to have started the season absolutely fine and did well in all games including last night.
If we got another CB who are you leaving out the European squad to accommodate a 4th or 5th choice CB. It can’t be Murray as we’re already short of HG players. We probably need to leave 1 or 2 of the squad out already such as osmand, Jota or ox based on how many midfielders we recruit.
It is also really clear the chances that are coming are coming through the midfield. Not errors from the CB so surely fixing the issue in midfield with a dominant ball winner is how we fix a lot of the issues. I think that is so clear to see but maybe I’m wrong.
No CB wins all there duals it’s impossible and from the first couple of games it looks to me the both Trusty and CCV have won a high percentage. If there’s a defender out there that wins every dual we can’t afford him.
So what do people want how do you see another CB fitting in. I am genuinely curious because I can’t see how it works.

Anyone of the back 3 could b replaced in my opinion, they lack pace and dominance. if you think giving Dundee United 5 chances to hit woodwork is ok then fair enough. your correct a cdm would help but cbs are the last line.
Bhoys on here with greater knowledge have mentioned a few at the £4m mark so hopefully the new chelsea scout we got has cpl on his books. we all want Ccv Trusty Scales to b the andwer mate and yes our league will get away with it most time.

The current CBs are CCV, trusty, scales and Murray. We lack depth and quality in this area. I personally think we need 5 CBs due to ccv injury record recently.
I would like to see us sign someone like Starfelt, someone with pace and dominant in the air. This would help us at both ends of the park.

Watch the Dundee United chances back the majority of them were from outside the box. They were Dundee Uniteds midfielders getting on to a loose ball at the edge of the box when out CB were deeper defending strikers. I don’t know how that becomes a CB responsibility if we’re not winning 2nd balls or at least our fair share. We can’t analyse every chance we give away every team gives away chances.
But this season we have kept 3 clean sheets in 4 competitive games.
We have 2 regular international players for a top 20 international country playing CB right now. We have had CBs coming in that have gone on to play for benfica, lens etc that multiple managers didn’t deem good enough to make our team.
My opinion is do we realise the quality of CB we are able to attract, how easy would it be to better the CB’s we currently have. I don’t rate Scales and think he would be a candidate to replace but multiple managers want him around the club. And he seems to be an all round club favourite so he’s not dropping out.
If we do buy a 5th CB who are you dropping from the European squad to accommodate especially since what we have is fine for the SPL.
{Ed007's Note - Footballing ability aside we have 4 CBs, what if one of them picks up a long term injury, we're down to 3 and that puts us an injury/red card away from a CB crisis in there. Most teams who play 2 CBs have 5 in their squad - my mate suggested maybe KT is our 5th CB (as in he can cover there) but that currently brings more problems because a) we know KT needs his gametime managed and b) we have no cover at LB apart from Scales who we might need to play as a CB....
I think that makes sense ???♂️
I do agree with the folk saying that we could do with adding some quality in the CB department, CCV is nearly 29 and Trusty has just turned 28, we need a younger (project?) raw round the edges type who can be coached and bedded in for moving either those 2 on next summer - that or splash out on quality right now like we are doing elsewhere in the team.

Id happily sell any of our current centre backs and bring in better. We gave away plenty of chances last night and could have been punished. The midfield can be blamed for some of the chances we give away but not all.

The lack of quality and pace in our CB's is scary.
We've required an improved option on CCV (our former No.1 CB) since before his last injury, Trusty is anything but, and Scales has been our most consistent CB over the past 2 seasons and he now finds himself on the bench (IMO) .
Nawrocki and Lagerbielke were signed in recent seasons, both deemed not good enough and punted.
There are too many moving parts to fix every position on the park in one window, but with our midfield inc the wide players, and the forward line starting to come together, our focus needs to be the back 4, priority being the CB's.

I think we underestimate just how much protection a proper defensive midfielder can give the central defence. Also, wingers who drop back to help their full backs.
One thing I did notice last night was just how fragile LASK defence looked against the high press. Obviously without Maeda. coupled with their willingness to play long balls, it would be too dangerous to overdo it but every now and again, pressing them high, (as a team) will reap benefits.

We lack pace in our CBs which was shown last night. CCV struggled at points with Lask's frontman and if it wasn't for Donovan at RB, McGregor and even Duran tracking back we could have been in trouble. Don't get me wrong, I love CCV but pace is not a strong point for either of our CBs.

They ran away from our cbs a couple of times and Trusty was turned inside out a couple of times.
In CL that will happen to any defence as you are up against quality players but we do lack height at the back.
I thought we did ok in the air and dealt with their forwards ok across the game but a big athletic, physical cb and defensive midfielder would solidify us across the back.

At cl level they looked a bit short, how many times were they ball watching without picking up the 6'foot plus forward it was scary he kept finding space, they need to be better on Tuesday, iam with Ed a new cb is needed.
{Ed007's Note - ???

Dane Murray is a fair bit quicker than CCV but not as strong against a physical CF and a bit more inexperienced on positioning and timing of the tackle. A strong, pacy, tall CB who can play football would be out of our price range.
The Lagerbielkes and Nawrockis are what our budget affords BUT again our failure to rotate squad means our young prospects do not gey the experience and match sharpness they need, so when eventually called upon, seem rusty and error-prone. Not only that, they end up frustrated and looking for better opportunities.

People need to remember we were only playing the Austrian Champions last night not the champions of a top 5 league. Or CB were caught out a few times and against better opposition that could be more than a few.
We definitely need 1 or 2 quality CB who has pace as we lack that. Get those CBS in and the other 2 mf and a quality LB and we should be sorted.
20 Aug 2026 17:46:18
Yes but when we're up against the "better" sides we're more pinned back in our own half and defend much deeper, hence CCV's pace issues less exposed.
