I find it refreshing that the media have no clue who we're going for as permanent manager. Yes sure they're throwing names around like confetti but nothing concrete.

Usually by now they're reporting someone is favourite like they did with Rangers and Gerard.

As long as the board are trying to get the best manager available I don't care who or what the media are reporting on or not.

04 Nov 2025 17:58:47
That's because the board don't even know as they have no succession plan.

Would not surprise me if the board don't have a clue either.

Min info is that DD has selected all managers since RD. he allowed PL to pick RD ( as they had between them decided to try a young, modern European manager…. that wasn't something DD was close to so PL was trusted with that appointment) . With no Rangers they felt safe to experiment…. so I was told.

I understand PL wasn't even consulted prior to BR coming back for the second time. DD and BR on friendly terms at that time.

DD briefs the board on what his choice is. That's how it has worked recently.

Succession plan? When did Celtic ever have a succession plan. A football club reacts to unforeseen circumstances. Lose a manager halfway through the season? Top men are under contract to other clubs.

You need permission to speak to them. Would they want to come? Perhaps - but not certain. The last succession plan I recall was Smith/ McCoist a few years back and how did that turn out.

{Ed007's Note - Fergie getting Moyes in at Man Utd? I'd like someone to explain what this "succession plan" should be or look like, are other managers just meant to sit & wait on Celtic needing a manager to drop everything and get to Glasgow?
Any plan for Rodgers (expected) exit was blew out the water when Rodgers walked out again, just be glad that MON said yes because if he hadn't I'd bet the next call was to Neil Lennon.
There was no time for a plan, Rodgers left us up $hit creek 2 days before we played Falkirk and less than a week before a semi final derby game.}

But, but, but, MON should be nowhere near Celtic. He's not a modern manager ?.

{Ed007's Note - The problem at Celtic - and this goes back years - is very rarely the actual manager, it's the people running the club, especially the main decision makers.}

We don't want a "modern manager ", we want a manager who plays the ball forward quickly and doesn't tell the the players to faff about at the back with it. If O'Neil wants it give him it!

04 Nov 2025 22:28:26
O'Neil's appointment was reactionary despite the board knowing Rodgers was for the chop.

A board with a modicum of foresight would have been exploring replacements and sounding them out before giving the manager the chop. Getting their ducks lined up ready to pull the trigger. They have a history of this lack of foresight and I've had enough of it.

{Ed007's Note - Rodgers resigned, that blows your make believe wee world theory apart. Did you moan about the lack of foresight after we appointed Ange after the plan of Eddie Howe went wrong, were you worried about the lack of foresight when we took Bayern to the wire?
Rodgers promised the fans - and board - he would be here until the end of the season, you can't put it on the board that he lied and walked away early.... AGAIN.}

In my view he was pushed and I am not buying DDs version of events. Regardless of whether he was pushed or not, the board knew he would be getting replaced, so where was the succession plan?

With regards to ange appointment I had the same issue as they did not have a succession plan then either.

They let Lennon carry on far too long that season and it cost us 10 in a row. Lennon left on the 24th February and we did not replace him until the 10th of June. On the 21st of April it was reported that Celtic wee close to a deal with Eddie Howe. Further proof that we had no succession plan.

I remember ange coming in and because of our boards lack of succession planning they gave him a monumental task to succeed. The reason I say that is that they brought him in late. He had to build nearly a full new starting xi and improve squad and he couldn't start immediately due to covid restrictions. He was losing all our best players and the board were slow in bringing in players (a familiar story) and this led to a lot of injuries as players got overplayed as he could not rotate them.

Maybe they thought that he'd be here till the end of the season which gives plenty time for a successor, or maybe theve got knutsen lined up nobody knows but it's a negative story we could do without as we try and get back on track.
