Wee Dessie

So the board are playing a blinder aye?, I've tae trust the process, the board have done their best (early days) and we're ready for champions league? You and your fellow board apologists are the very reason we are where we are. Geez some mare pi$h Dessie. jfp.

We need at least 4 first team players. We need pace and physicality matched with higher skill levels. At the very least we need a MF, CF, winger and CH…. and Casper as no 2. All this week.

We didn’t look good towards the end of the season…. I was worried then about Calmac (he has been great for us) and Casper…. Father Time catches up with us all.

Engels and Bernardo fell away badly.

First league game is just over a week away…. It’s not getting too late to bring players in…. If we want them to have a “preseason” behind them. the excuse given for Adam Idah. IMHO he hasn’t got the skill set needed for a top CF. Sure he will get a few goals. But has he the pace, hold up play and poachers instinct? No me neither.

If said it before, I don’t believe we have the proper set up behind the scenes to scout players. Last years “top signings” were at a stretch average.

We have a big week coming up.

JFP who is that you expect the board to have signed by now giving the fact it might be hard to attract " oven ready CL players to take us to the next level" when we have still to qualify for the CL and at this point are unable to guarentee " oven read CL players that will take us to the next level" CL football?

Just because someone has the sense to understand reality and see the situation as it is does not make them " board apologists".

I get your point JFP and I like your posts, but a wee bit harsh maybe. Beating Newcastle 4-0 didn't make us a great team any more than tonight's result makes us a bad one.

First half we were good, and their keeper stopped a couple that should have gone in.

Start of second half was flat, like a training game. They also scored a couple of great strikes (although I agree they should have been closed down for them) .

It's a pre-season. Maybe it did it's job and showed what it was supposed to do. Where we still need to strengthen.

Not making Scales a scapegoat, but I really find it hard to like him. No positional sense, constantly wrestling opponants and giving away fouls. Runs about like a gangly newborn foal, panics and makes hospital passes.

As much as I agree we need signings. Anybody that thinks friendly games matter are clueless.

Thank you JFP 1888 for posting directly to me .
I read your post and if you were a Sevco poster, and I know you are not, I would understand your comments. You may laugh and sneer as much as you like but having supported Celtic for as long as I have, I am not going to turn by back on them now . As far as I am concerned the only way I can demonstrate my support is to encourage and try to build up confidence individually and collectively. After a 2nd half performance like tonight’s I am certainly not going to praise them as the last 30 + mins individually and collectively they stopped working together to win ball and keep it when they got it . Celtic were a miserable sight and reminded me of the 7-1 CL defeat. Given a bit of encouragement and confidence building I hope we can recover like we did last season. Ridiculing the players and sneering at them when down certainly won’t help them.

Donegalpol,

fair points, well made.

On Scales, I've said for longer than I can recall, Scales has never had positional sense and is ideal as a squad player.

If Scales name is in the team sheet then we've either got injuries or we haven't signed the right players.

On that note and for what it's worth;- a first choice CB, a first choice Striker and a Winger are required ASAP.

Our worse cb tonight was CCV.

Been saying for the last few seasons that Taylor and Scales were never Celtic players and had a few heated discussions on this.

Taylor gone thank god and Scales needs to be next.

Really worried about Kasper but hopefully I’m wrong on this one.

Spot on Donegal about Scales, if he stood his man up instead of wrestling him on the halfway line to win the ball he'd get on better!

25 Jul 2025 01:35:51
It's all about opinions. I obviously agree with you about Scales Bhoy88, but totally disagree with North 18Q when he says Scales and Taylor were never Celtic players.

Scales is a Celtic player, and has done his part when called upper to win umpteen honours. He may be a squad player at best, but he's one of us.

Taylor was a great Celtic player in my opinion, and unlike others who underperformed was targeted unfairly. Why? Because he wasn't that ridiculous phrase "celtic minded"? What does that even mean nowadays?

25 Jul 2025 06:39:31
Was never a huge fan of Taylor. Decent servant but that's about it. The way some people talk about him he had better offers than PAOK. Scales gas stepped in when required but we can't be going into another season with him in the mix.

25 Jul 2025 07:43:36
Taylor was a great player, stuns me how people couldn't see his value. Scales just needs to realise there's no need to be up someone's a£%e on the halfway line desperately trying to win the ball. He'll concede a foul all day long. Google Paolo Maldini's tackle per game ratio, he says if you have to make a tackle you've already made a mistake.

Patting the board on the back for doing fuck all doesn’t help either.

25 Jul 2025 10:43:50
One of us doesn’t cut it in professional football.

He’s sub standard and anyone who knows football can see that.

Taylor was a terrible player who never tackled a winger in his life, played back passes constantly and spent more time throwing his hands in the air blaming anyone else for his mistakes.

Go on to kerrydale street where there is a 600 page thread on Taylor rejoicing that he’s gone.

On the bright side he can hold a tune in the dressing room by all accounts.

If he is so good why has he signed for a small club in Greece.

I will take a 100 quid bet for the charity of your choice that he will be back in the spfl or lower league England in less than two years.

25 Jul 2025 12:40:36
C'mon Bhoy88. If Taylor was that good how come we've went back for the man he was supposed to replace? And again, how has he ended up at PAOK.

26 Jul 2025 15:04:19
The one thing that seems to n the genes of Celtic supporters, if a fan has a spare 5 mins he/ she will blame the Board . Even as of now when Manager takes the whole responsibility off the Board by often repeating that he BR has the final word on every signing .
So how can Board be at fault.
