Sky Sports reporting new 17.3mill bid rejected for Arne Engels. Club have said they have no intention of selling. Obviously we all know every player is for sale at the right price!

Curious, What would users on the forum sell him for? I understand we would need to get someone in to replace.

Like i said on a previous post, 20mill and I'd pull the trigger! But that is only my opinion.

I'm sure there are players in our own league who could do a good job in the middle of the park just as good as Engels.

But if Forrest are willing to spend a reported £17m in January I'm sure they and other clubs will come back in the summer for him with the same money.

If we had a well run transfer system and had replacements ready, that's a deal we should be making. Get add ons included and it's almost too good to be true.

We don't though, so i'd be keeping hold of him till the summer. Although his head could be turned and I'm not sure we can afford another disinterested player.

I like Engles mate has a lot of potential still young. Always shows up in Europe as well maybe not stand out domestically at times. But in terms of Europe he does well and I think we could go on a run in Europe is year I would keep.

No point selling him just now we won't be able to replace him till the summer. Also we could sell Arne for 100m and the board wouldn't spend it. Also Arne is great in Europe not so much in the league but he is only 22 so hopefully he can kick on and be more consistent.

He will be worth the same in the summer so no rush to sell him now.

I also like Engels (no booing at the back) but as you say Mikey, every player has a price.

Given the transfer window closes later today, unless we can get a first team ready replacement signed, we don't have the strength and depth in this current side to sell him, therefore, I'd be inclined to hold on to him.

The summer is always a better transfer window and we could well have a different management team coming in.

Engels has a lot of potential and maybe he receives more criticism than deserved because of the quality of his team mates around him, especially mcgregor and hatate. He would improve a great deal playing with better players.

I agree with Michael, 20m would be enough for me.
And for what its worth, if we were to sell all our players now, Engles would likely earn us more coin than any other player.

Half a Mars bar. Just dnt rate him. ??.

DT, it's a good point re Engels being our most valuable player and it adds focus to those playing alongside him.

The talent cupboard, as far as this current team goes, is Mother Hubbard (IMO) for what it's worth.

This current squad summed up for me reads like this;-

* Hatate and Maeda want away
* CalMac is turning into Peter Grant and is past his best. If BR or anyone else comes in for him, punt him.
* Talk of James Forrest being offered a new contract when he should be thanked and shown to his car.
* a first choice GK who's done
* CB's who are never going to be Maldini and Baresi
* a bench that's weaker than MN

Given performances since last February, I think we've got approx 4 players or so, of the current team, that are good enough to be in the first team come the start of next season.

A handul of players from the current squad would make the bench and the gaps in the first 11 from GK, CB (x2) MF (x2/ 3) Wingers (x2) and a striker. would need to be sourced and signed.

I appreciate this is highly unlikely to happen but I believe given what's taken place this season, the age of certain players and the overall form of the team, fresh blood and a higher level of player is required if we are ever going to progress as a club.
