Daniel Cummings signs for West Ham. Another youngster leaves the Club ?.

We've known this for months. He refused a new contract and made his intention clear. Another that will most likely end up no higher than English championship if he doesn't fade away like most the others that have left recently.

The route to the first team is non existent for too many of our youth 'academy' and either they are deemed not good enough for Celtic, or the opportunities to break through are far too difficult. (Or both? )

It’s funny a large portion of the support blame the youth player for leaving most of the time.
It’s the fault of the board and there lack of structure and almost amateur structure the club pertains. We continue to live in the past with footballing structure and that continues to be a detriment to our ability to retain and compete with the “big clubs”.

In 2015/ 16 The Development squad had their Invincible season and consisted of players such as Tony Ralston, Jamie Mccart, Ross Doohan, Calvin Miller, Fiacre Kelleher (Caoimhín's brother) and Regan Henry. Ralston is backup to AJ, Jamie McCart is with Hearts, Doohan is coming back as 3rd choice, Calvin Miller is with Falkirk, Fiacre Kelleher is with Colchester and Regan Henry - no idea where he is at the moment as lasst heard in 2021 with Forest Green.
Doesn't like like many have kicked on.

I don't know why anyone gets so worked up about youth players anyway. I couldn't care less how many are in team as long as the team are winning. Ye great to see some make it but it's not that important to me. If the player is good enough he'll make it, if not he won't. Looking at what happens to the majorities career after leaving us shows they are not good enough for us.

Reports are consistent that 90% of academy players don’t make professional footballers. In England 97% of academy players never play in an EPL team.
It looks as if our academy holds its own, in reality a very low bar to cross to hold it’s own.

The manager is watching these players every day in training and if they were good enough they would be in the first team, and any manager would be delighted to promote young players into the team. Unfortunately the youth players don’t appear to be up to scratch and the failure to win the Lowland league against part time players who train twice a week with lower facilities proves that.

A lot of the people that are also to blame are the support.
A huge majority of the support won't give players a chance, especially if they weren't brung in for multimillions.
{Ed007's Note - It's the board penny pinching used to get thrown about a lot when youngsters did come through. The gap is massive from the B team set up to the first team but I 100% agree that most youngsters would be deemed not good enough after a couple of misplaced passes, poor timed tackles or losing their man - but that is part and parcel of the pressure of playing for Celtic in this modern world of microscopic stats & social media etc
Look at the way Scales and GT have been treated by large parts of the support yet we've spent millions trying to find better than them and haven't, that's not their fault.}

If the youngsters were good enough they would have found a pathway to first team football especially if Board were penny pinching . Many have left us in a blaze of glory but, I don’t see see any of them who were too good for Celtic, making the progress that some Barcelona youngsters have made . Two x 17 year olds.

I was told by the family of one of the recent youngster that left, that the reason for him leaving was down to certain clauses or conditions that Celtic were insistent was put in their new contract. The my said that they felt Celtic were playing on them because they knew they were a Celtic supporting family. No ideas what the clauses or conditions were and wasn’t sure to believe it however the more youngsters we see leaving makes me think that there might be something in it.

People slating the board for not bringing through youngsters yet caning the boy Engels as not good enough. It doesn’t matter what nationality, age or price you are, some fans will always complain and say you’re not good enough just because. The problem isn’t the board, the manager or the youth system, it’s the SPFL and ourselves the fans. There’s no “easy” game In the SPFL to risk a youth player. Go to a 16+ league and watch us play more youth in games vs Morton, Ayr, thistle. Let’s just stop blaming him he board for things they can’t control.
