I’ve been more patient than most when it comes to Arne Engels. I just don’t think he will ever kick on to be a top player for Celtic. If Nottm Forrest come back with an improved offer closer to 20m I’d be selling immediately.
I’m not saying Josh Mulligan from Hibs is a direct replacement but if it’s true Engles could be on his way i'd be bringing in Mulligan now.
I noticed he wasn’t in the squad today for Hibs as he was injured, hopefully it’s not long term and he is an option
Before tomorrow’s window.

recently I've not hadcrhe chance to watch any other games, other than Celtic.
How highly would you rate Mulligan from Hibs?
Would you say he'd be on the bench with a view to him being a starter next season?
Baring in mind;- Engels could end up being sold, CalMac is 34, Hatate will likely leave in the summer and Bernardo - well, I'm not sure what's going on with Bernardo?

Pedro, I believe Mulligan would come right into our midfield easily based on this season so far. We can’t afford to let another quality Scottish player leave the country.

Mulligans injured unfortunately, could be out for 6 weeks but is definitely a player I'd look at in the summer. Great engine on him with plenty of potential. i'd like us to get Watson from Killie on a pre contract though.

Maybe if MON had the balls to drop Peter pointer and play him in his correct position then we would see how good a player he is.

Mulligan is not the answer. I really have no idea what anyone sees in him or Bowie. There isn’t a midfielder in the SPL I’d take over any of our midfield. We should be aiming well higher than that or promoting from youth team.
Engels hasn’t been able to kick on this year because the entire team has been off it for a plethora of reasons. Fans are part of it. Board is another. Manager chucking it, another manager bamboozling them. Confidence low etc. If we didn’t have all the of that contributing to a team low on confidence, I reckon him and few others would have kicked on massively this year. The way fans turn on our players when they can clearly see the struggles is mind boggling. Engels numbers last year were excellent for a debut season and being 21. He was arguably our best player in the champions league along side Kuhn.
Wanting to punt him because of this season is laughable. It’s very Sevco like behaviour. It also plays into this entitlement you all feel. You think Celtic should concede goals. You think a player shouldn’t misplace a pass. A keeper shouldn’t make a mistake etc. That’s not how football works. How does the saying go “Win, Lose or Draw”. Meaning you’ll support the bhoys but because you’ve became so entitled and spoiled by how many trophies Celtic have won, you’ve turned bitter.
Celtic need to add quality to compliment the squad, that is true. That doesn’t mean selling off you first team assets because they’ve not hit the heights this season. A season where no one has.
If Celtic win the league this year and it’ll be tough, none of you should be there celebrating it if that’s your attitude.

Why shouldn’t we want top money from the clowns in the money league? You are talking about Engels playing in McGregors position to see how good he is? Engles vs Hearts and Utrecht thought he was playing in the other team as nearly every pass went to the opposition.
So back to your “dear oh dear”…. If a club comes in with a 14m offer straight away then I think anyone with a brain would always reject and ask for more? Unless that’s not how transfers work?

20 mil for any Celtic player wether we like or not is a fee we would and should prob accept. Take the money but there’s no point if we don’t have another 11m player on radar to come in or are an attractive enough option by the looks of last few windows,

Beardy, Don’t ever call me entitled or spoiled. I grew up watching players like Anton Rogan and Regi Blinker playing for Celtic.
I’ve been part of this forum since 2011 so it’s easy to identify the happy clapping squad, along with a possible zombie with to much time on there hands.
Based on what I’ve watch you add recently it’s clear you are somewhere in between they category’s.

And what does McGregor do in every game? He misplaces passes, over runs the ball, passes back the way at every opportunity, points his finger and chases shadows.

I’m a fan of Engles. I think he’s the best midfielder at Celtic and hasn't hit the heights this year with McGregor and Hatate being empty jerseys.

BishoptonBhoy - My post was about selling Engels as a club have supposedly bid for him, MY OPINION is we should sell for a profit on what the club paid.
If a bid came in for McGregor as his age I would also sell, when I heard Saudi clubs were supposedly interested I said on the forum get him sold.

Seems people are talking more about wether Engels is good or not ( which is subjective) over the fact should we sell yes or no, if Matt orikey goes for 25 mil and while there different players I don’t think we would ever get more for Engels then if we get our valuation he should go because we’ve got his valuation, that’s where Celtic are as club and that’s not changing, for me it all comes down to who would replace him.

I think Engels is probably one of our best assets. i'd like to play him in his natural position and try build around him. I think when calmac goes they'll might be the plan.
Always thought Anton Rogan was decent was a double winner in 1988.

I wouldn't sell anyone this window unless they are miles down the pecking order or we have a replacement lined up.
If we are going to win anything, we need all our best players to stay and a few added before window closes.

Does anyone on here seriously think that if we sold Engels for 14m, that any of it would be put on a replacement.
Like Khun and Kyogo money it would not be spent, it would pay this year's tax bill.
With the players named that are apparently coming in, we will need to keep our best players, as the look underwhelming. Hopefully I am wrong but not getting excited.
As for Mulligan and Bowie, we keep saying we want Celtic to be the best they can be, no offence to them, and not being entitled, I would want better.
Just because they look good against us and in our league doesn't make them what we need. McCowan was a standout when we signed him and he only looks good coming on late in games when the opposition are tired.
In fairness to him, he doesn't get enough game time to get into a rhythm and build confidence. DT was the same, standout, joined us and looked very ordinary.
Maybe it is us, we buy players because they look good in a position and play them in another position and they don't look like the same player.

Aindoh, it’s not snobbery. I genuinely don’t think there are any midfielders in our league that would displace ours. I’d take Maswanise from Motherwell and I’d monitor the young boy in there midfield, can’t remember his name but other than, at this moment, I wouldn’t take a midfielder from any of the other clubs.
I don’t get the hype on Bowie either, I’m clearly missing something as Hellas Verona obviously saw something but I would not be surprised if he goes there and flops.

That’s laughable! These same players were outstanding last year and were more than good enough against some of Europe’s best last season. Then suddenly this year, you call them all dross. Like what? It’s a difficult year for all of the reasons I listed above that I won’t list again.
I agree that every player has a price. Engels is 22. If we keep him for another couple of years which would mean giving him a new contract, we could get more for him. He’s still young and learning his trade, something you and others seem to forget. As for McGregor, you wanted to sell him in January? That’s an absolute ridiculous statement to make. Why sell your captain in the middle of season when we clearly need him for unity across the squad? I’d sell him in the summer but in January?
You think because Celtic are Celtic they should just steamroll every team in the league. Too bad football isn’t played on paper. It’s played by humans, who are just like you and me. They can be low on confidence, they can be anxious, they can have a bad day at the office. It’s football, you take the good with the bad.
Celtic have had countless injuries to deal with this year plus absolutely no investment in the first team while allowing first team players to leave. We all know this is a big issue. We all knew this would weaken the team. However, in your mind, it’s the players fault, even though you’re on here screaming at the board for not signing players in the summer and taking an age this window?! Why are you raging? Is it because you know the squad is thread bare? The whole point of having a good squad is A: competition and B: rotation. We’ve had neither. That is not the fault of the players. It’s the incompetence at board level and in recruitment.
