So frustrating for a young winger, given a pre-season chance and you can see how much it's drilled into them to receive, turn back and play to reverse passes to CMs!
Let the lads have freedom to drive and disrupt the opposition.
Yamal, Doku, Niko Williams and Gittens to name but a few of top wingers currently who recieve the ball and look to go past an opponent, absolute freedom to express themselves and that's why the are so saught after, I still can't believe wingers seem to move backwards rather than forwards, so frustrating to watch.
{Ed007's Note - I said that about Kuhn for ages mate, people moaned about him always going inside as if it was his fault but it was obviously what Rodgers wanted him to do. Maybe that was part of his eagerness to leave, he was being stifled and not being allowed to express himself?
For me I would leave it up the player, if the player thinks he's got the making of the FB let him decide, tie them in knots not knowing what way he's going.
People might not like this but it was the same under Ange, managers treat players like robots, this is your job, that's all you do... it's my way or the highway.
Where's the spark, where's the players that get you off your seat every time they get the ball because you don't know what they are going to do with it.}

That's pretty much what I said the other day. We get a youngster in who's got bags of technical and natural talent and we coach it out of them to fit our style/ system. Look at Kuhn's face when he got substituted. You didn't need to be a mind reader to know what he was thinking. One he's with Como it'll probably liberate him the same as other youngsters who have left. It's like watching robots play.

For the last 50 years managers have dictated the game . As time goes on manager has more and more input into the whole game . I fully understand why Managers plan defensive set ups especially from set pieces. This is an area managers seem to not get right or else players don’t put into practice what they are told .
I think Celtic are often attacking with defence in mind as players take the safe option . We definitely lose entertainment value of game, hopefully results continue to make up in some way for lost of pure entertainment.

I don’t think even our youngsters mothers think their sons have the ability of Yamal, Doku and Williams, so to prevent them losing the ball and putting their own goal at risk, it’s important that manager creates a less risk method of using the ball and creating opportunities . Results are very important and no better group of fans to let their manager know that, than the Celtic fans.

The modern wingers now mostly play on the other wing which usually means they cut in and get a shot away, how many goals did khun score likewise jota paddy roberts etc, if possible if mot they keep possession, that's modern football now if young players are good enough they'll succeed, turley tried loads of flicks and trucks last night they all never came off but clearly he was under no shackles or he wouldn't have done them.

It depends on what type of striker we use. Ange had the wingers hit the bye line and hit it across to Kyogo and Maeda. Their movement and pace made it difficult for defenders.
BR used Kyogo differently and with Idah, the long ball to him to hold up play and bring the fast players onto him, makes it hard for defenders to turn.
Most of our wingers are two footed and can go outside or inside but it depends on what striker is playing and the type of runs they make.
A lot of Maedas goals last year were either passes behind the defence or wingers hitting the bye line and hitting it low to the back post.
Our wingers beat their marker and cross the ball, whereas Yamal etc go past 2 or 3 players.

Just an observation as a fan, those who have a bit of self belief and flair win a crowd over, which makes it hard for a manager to ignore. Boring if we just play chess all the time, sometimes more like draughts.

I, too would be bored out of my mind if we destroyed both the games of draughts or chess by playing them on Celtic Pk . The pieces would have to be so big to fill the squares on the surface of large Celtic Pk that they would be too big to jump each other and two heavy to crown each other . Would Celtic fans be happy with multiple coronations taking place .
Football remains popular and is in fact continuously growing world wide mostly I believe due to managers changing the style of play . In the ‘60’s and ‘70’s the more successful clubs had modern clear thinking managers and there was a world of difference from the fast attacking style with galloping forward full backs that Stein utilised and the dour stop opponents at any cost, clear ball anywhere, just get it away by Rangers . I saw their cb put ball over his own crossbar from centre circle . We know the attacking style of Ajax, defensive style of Italians . These styles are continuing to diversify and create more interest . Managers cannot make big changes from match to match but can try wee things to make difference . Some may think that our games lack character but at least they have modified and changed from our early days.

Do we not remember MO’N big signing from Hibs a darling of some of our fans Agatha ran whatever direction defenders showed him, yet he was very creative, at least nowadays attacker makes decisions what way to go.
